    Wedding guest signature board

Did this for one of my coworkers who is getting married this weekend. I work as a graphic designer for our company and he initially approached me about just doing the design so he could take to Kinkos to have the decal made. After talking to him and figuring out what he actually needed, I was able to save him from being screwed by the "corporate" pricing structure and did it for him for about half the cost of Kinkos...and I still made a little profit

Here's the idea to making cutout areas in Illustrator. This can be done for solid color or multiple color/layered decals. This is a logo I am working on for a trade show and figured this would be a good example to show the process on how it's done. Although this logo is more complex than just text over an image...it still helps show what all has been done to make the cutout areas. For the the text over the starfish I did in the picture you would only need steps 5-8 to make the cutout. Hope this helps

    Any musicians out there?

I've been playing drums for nearly my entire life. Grew up listening to Metallica but mostly played 90s grunge and alternative "radio" rock for the bands was in. I did some touring with a small country blues rock type band in college then took u-turn and started playing speed metal...such as Suicide Silence and As Blood Runs Black...with the last band I played with. Our vocalist lives in Sweden so we split after college when he moved back. Also played in various jazz ensembles and marched with the drumline back when I was in high school. My kit: Pearl Masters in Sunrise Fade finish, Pork Pie acrylic snare drum, Pearl Demon Drive double kick pedal, and Ziljian cymbals all around What do you guys(and gals) play?

Lol! Internet radio is my best friend! I can't stand the crap on "mainstream" radio anymore. Love my Bluetooth capabilities in my truck so I never have to be forced into listening to FM anymore.

Said goodbye to a friend yesterday.

Pretty Sheltie! My parents have one that looks similar to that and my bro has a black and white one. His looks like a mini Border Collie.

Sorry to hear about your Buddy. It's hard to say goodbye to our furry little friends especially one that was with you that long. I had a dog growing up that lived to be 16 years old...he and I grew up together and he was a great companion. Hard to see them go...but all we can do is show them love and care for their short little lives so that when the time comes, they will remember how great you are and continue to watch down from above.

Mine just crosses over the seams. Being that this is being used indoors and mostly display purpose I think it will be fine. These boards are close enough to where not much vinyl would be exposed on the backside. You could take a razor blade or xacto and slice the between parts but I don't think it will make too much difference unless there is a place the vinyl isn't staying.

haha whereabout? Sounds like some backwoods SC areas I know.

I do it before cutting. It bothers me to layer something and be able see the lines of the back image through the top layer. I stroke the front image, copy it and expand the stroke (now there are two of the top image...new one being larger) and remove that new image from the back image with my pathfinder tool. I cut and layer with registration marks so the two layers blend perfect with each other. I am using Illustrator so terms may be different than other software but I will be happy to post a quick tutorial if anyone is interested.

The board is made up of "slats" of wood that are painted white and then the decals were applied directly to that. It's for a beach themed wedding here on the coast of SC.

4x4s - Show of your rigs!

One of my buddies loves "Yoters". He works in the car business and is always trading in and out of new rigs. At one point had a Lexus LX with heated/cooled seats and power windows...he called it his Luxury trail rig haha

4x4s - Show of your rigs!

Did it in Oracal 951 Silicon Metallic and the accents in 751 Matte Black. The Silicon metallic is almost identical to the sterling gray metallic paint Ford used on the bumpers and rocker panels. The other picture is my back window decal.

  22. So I have been doing custom 4x4 logos for members of the f150forum and now looking to really branch out my business due to an excessive amount of interest in my designs. Being that they are all one off custom logos I didn't think too much about this until now that I want to offer some "standard" decals on the web page I am creating. I have searched endlessly for brand guidelines from Ford but have to go through a screening/approval that can take weeks before I may or may not be able to just read through it. My question is regarding Fords packages STX, XLT, FX2, FX4...am I legally allowed to use the lettering in my designs? I'm not worried about 4x4 Offroad because every truck manufacturer offers their own 4x4 package so as long as I'm not using their logos/fonts without permission I cannot get in trouble. So what about the usage of FX4? If I have my own design with no likeness to theirs can I get in trouble for using F X and 4 in my design for an FX4 model truck?
  23. I do 95% vehicle graphics so I use mostly 751 and 951 depending on colors and availability at the time.
  24. Thanks for the feedback. I will continue my research and talk to my attorney about it....but I agree and for now it's not worth the risk.
  25. I had this problem and for the life of me couldn't figure out what was going on. Eventually stepped up to higher grade vinyl and although the initial cost is more expensive....I found out people don't mind paying a few dollars extra for quality decals.
