  1. If possible could you try some small Os and gs in Arial font at around 6-7mm? That's where this thing shows up the most for me.

a, e, o, and g all cut fine in Arial at 0.25" for me. With my old value cutter I was careful on which direction I weeded the insides of those letters. I would try to spot the pigtails and weed with it instead of against it, so not to tear. An xacto knife was needed sometimes to correct parts that the cutter messed up on.

  2. I've only used Schein Chrome Polish that I purchased from Sign Warehouse before I was smart enough to know better (i.e., before I found US Cutter).  It's a metallized polyester film rather than vinyl - it's stiffer and does not stretch.  It cuts, weeds and dry installs like vinyl.  I haven't tried a wet install, because I don't think it breathes as much as vinyl does, and I'm afraid the moisture will never get out.

I have only applied it to smooth or gently curved surfaces - I've never tried to wrap anything (doubt it would work) or gone over rivets or other surface features.  I bought it when it was on sale and it sat on my rack for a couple of years before I did much with it.  I just cut some yesterday and it's nearly 3 year's old and it still cut, weeded and installed perfectly this morning.

This is the exact same stuff, just a different name. I've made a couple thousand rear window decals for a car dealership with it and it works and looks great.

I've used the Oracal 351 and didn't care for it much.

  3. The troubling part is they don't have to take you to court to get your designs pulled down from 3rd party websites. All it takes is a violation report showing the trademark and it's gone. Sites like Ebay, Etsy, Amazon, etc. aren't going to waste their time over a trademark dispute, even if it wouldn't hold up on court.

  4. Here is one trademark showing the font design that they use.

They also have a standard character mark, which protects against any font. Nobody else can use "Country Girl" on shirts, hats, jeans, etc.

The same company, LML Investments, LLC, have trademarked "Country Girl" in several different product categories.

    Here is their website, http://countrygirlstore.com/

They also have a trademark on "Country Boy"

  5. it's all yours mark - pretty sure it is printing to exhibition canvas and mounting on backer boards - photos etc,   I have done them but with the price that you can get them done on groupon etc it is not worth my time for most situations

This business is one of the reasons that I bought a 24" wide printer. You hit the nail right on the head though Dakota. People want the $30 canvas with free shipping. Prices have been driven down into the dirt by the big print houses. I can make a much nicer product than they can, but most people are cheap.

  6. that is actually the case in a lot of these situations - people try to be the cheapest and compete with Chinese labor . . .  and then move on in a year or so when they find they have not been making a living wage for their work

This is true. I've seen vinyl decals for sale that after running the numbers they are making $1 profit on a $20 sale after calculating cost of materials, seller fees, and shipping. If they work 40 hours a week they could maybe clear $15k/year after taxes. To some people that is enough or at least more than they are making now.

  7. There is this thing that will weed vinyl for you.

I've seen posts before about the weeder and people didn't think it would really work that well for everything that needs to be weeded. For some stuff...sure, but not for everything. How much time will it take to re-cut and place pieces that it accidentally removes.

The sheeter is interesting and I thought about buying one once. Maybe even look at a cold laminator. Used would be around the same price and maybe be more useful.

Personally, I ended up getting a WeberMade app tape holder and a BigSqueegee yard sign tool. Works like a charm.

  8. They are guessing what the customer might think. "Why did I pay $xxx for decals when they stick them on bags and give them away?". Sounds like you are selling shirts, so probably not an issue. To each their own.

  9. A lot of categories on the main Amazon site have seller fees of 15% + $1, unless you have a pro seller account which is $40/month, but it removes the $1 per item fee. The pro seller account makes sense if you sell more than 40 items per month.

Does the $0.50 per item fee go away once you have the $40/month seller plan?

  10. I read that as they want the right to use your pictures in online, TV, and print advertising. Doesn't Facebook do the same thing with uploaded content? I'm sure if we read the small print nobody would sign up for anything these days. But the again, people would sign up anyway because they want to use the service.

  11. I'm sure you meant 8mil and not 8mm. I've cut a lot of 8mil chalk vinyl with the Graphtec with no issues. Just use a sharp 60 degree blade and run some test cuts to get the pressure dialed in. I use a speed of 20 and force of 29 with the blade sticking out the same as with regular vinyl.
