Graphtec CE5000-120 cutting files 90 degrees from preview
kal259 replied to Wrod Industries's topic in GraphTec Cutting Plotter Support Requests
The second screenshot is tiled because the width of the ouline is set to 116.904 and your media is 28. It will only cut 27.2 in. because the with is too large, so it tiles the piece to fit. The first screenshot looks correct. If you look at the position box you can flip the media around. . -
Try changing the color of the baseball and hands to a darker color so that it will be easier to trace. I would also use your own text it will be much cleaner.

How to get cut vinyl lined up on window from edge to edge?
kal259 replied to motoxchic's topic in General discussion
Many windows are not level, unless you make a template or spot on mesurements your only option would be to cut the three sides long, center hinge and trim the edges. Just make sure to squeegee all the way to the edge and use a fresh blade to trim. -
Alot of sellers on auction sites are not legit license holders. You can contact MLB or NFL. I believe MLB is pretty easy to work with not sure about NFL.
-
On larger work I will cut out the top regitration mark with an exacto and a ruler, then line them up tape a hinge and peel.

Your problem may be that the paint is not cured. I not sure what the cure time for spray paint is, I would let it sit for a day or two then clean the surface and try again.

Cutting Issue Ce6000 Graphtec Studio/SCAL
kal259 replied to Rob@MM's topic in GraphTec Cutting Plotter Discussion
You can download CPCTL from the graphtec page and change and save all your plotter settings and run test cuts from your computer, not sure if it will help it's just the way i do it. The temp of the vinyl and the plotter makes a big difference in the quality of the cut, cold vinyl does not cut well, I have ruined a few jobs cutting before my shop warmed up. -
Try converting the photo to black and white and then play with the threshold, hue,etc..., until it looks like something that will vectorize use Photoshop, Gimp would also work.
-
Looks good If you still have more to do I would recommend pulling out the curve on the bottom of the c on the DC, Great job for your first sign

I have not had any customers ask for the vector file, so I don't give it to them. Most of it is pretty simple to reproduce, simple logo and text. Most bigger companies will already have an eps of the work they want done, if I have to do a redraw I charge about a flat rate usually about an hour. What they are really paying for is the decal and install, removal of old decals. If a customer asked for the file I upfront I would give it to them but charge more for the redraw, there is alot of competition in my area so giving it without them asking is like giving work to other shops.
-
I never give the customer a copy of the converted image. They would own the image, unless it has a copyright by someone else. I charge for design time to convert it and for the sign/decal itself and install if applicable. I would add that 8 hours is alot to charge depending on your rate, I usually charge a flat rate.

If the cutter works it is a great deal, very much so if Flexi is legit. If the vinyl is old and has been sitting it may not be good, but it would still be worth it.

Need some advise..
kal259 replied to PointOfExpression's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Sorry to hear about your designs being stole. I don't think that there is much you can do. If the host site isn't willing to help any firther steps would be costly. You could contact a lawyer, but it may not do much. They will ignore any legal documents sent to them. Chia isn't know for cracking down on copyright violations. You could make it harder for them to steal your designs by taking pictures at an angle and using watermarks in your designs, so that they can;t use autotrace. -
Thanks for the ideas, convinced them to go with screen printed labels instead of a stencil.
-
Does anyone have any suggestions on a good material to make a reusable stencil that can take some abuse. I have a customer looking for a stencil that is somewhat flexible, able to curve around a cylinder. The stencil itself would be roughly 24"Lx12"w. Thanks in advance for help. I should also add that I'm not looking for anything with an adhesive backing. Something more like plastic, maybe 20 to 30 mils., for repeated use and some longevity.

Pricing for removal of deteriorating decals
kal259 posted a topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
I need help pricing decal removal. The decals are on fuel tankers and are roughly 60" x 24". The doors are easy, but the decals on the tanks are deteriorating. They are printed vinyl with laminating that is peeling all over. Heat is out of the question as removal and installation with take place at the customers facility, and no source of ignition is allowed. Is $45 an hour too steep? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -
How did you start your business?
kal259 replied to JessXEmoji's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
As Mz Skeeter said selling on auction sites can make money, but be prepared for people stealing your work and undercutting you. There seems to be a rash of cheap wall decals from China flooding the market right now so be ready to sell at a low profit margin. -
Yes it is. No Fear was popular some years ago as a clothing line, and energy drinks. If you question if somehing is trademarked a quick search on the internet will usually help out.

Avery cal is only a few dollars more a role compared to 651. The difference between 751 and A9 is around $30 a roll. Not sure about how any of the bargin brands perform against 651 never tried them.

easy way to change thickness of part of a file
kal259 replied to Stevem9's topic in Sure Cuts A Lot Pro
Never used scalp but I would make a new oval with a thicker stroke, and delete the old one. Just make sure the oval and the text are ungrouped, broked apart or unwelded before you delete the original oval. -
651 should be fine, I've seen it last for several years on vehicles before it shinks and cracks. As long as it's not going on complex curves it should work for the few weeks you need it.
-
I know this may sound silly, but is the bitmap selected before your try to use the trace bitmap function. I have also had problems with a few bitmaps in the past not tracing, my solution was to open it in Photoshop, or Gimp and turn it solid black with a white background.

Pricing for removal of deteriorating decals
kal259 replied to kal259's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
I have three heat guns already so thats not a problem. Air is not a problem either, they have two huge compressors that i can use that are close to where we will working. I don't think a pressure washer will work, they wash the trucks once a week with a degreaser/acid soap to keep the trucks clean. That may be the reason the original printed/ laminated graphics failed after 4 years. The laminate is peeling all over the place and the printed vinyl is faded. There is a ton of adhesive around the edges still. The new graphics will be 2 layered 751, that should hold up better. it only has to last another 4 years before they replace most of the trucks. -

I'm talking to them today about using a heat gun, these are thick steel tanks that are under pressure, so they are not vented to the atmosphere. I dont think a heat gun would be a problem but you never know what they will allow. I'm just trying to keep the cost down on removal as they have 20 vehicles that need to done. I hope I can get the od graphics off and new ones installed in around two hours each truch with a two man team.
