    Self Healing Mats

I LOVE IT!!! blades last a lot longer and everything just seems to cut nicer on it. I have one I keep right on my desk now, and one on the work bench... I will never work without one now.

oracle reflective vinyl, paint bleeding through

What kind of truck is it? If it is a "hot rod" of sorts with headers and what not it may be producing to much extra heat and "baking" the color out of the vinyl... What grade reflective was it? Was it a new roll or something that had been sitting around for a while? We need more info to help diagnose.....

    Vinyl cutting at fairs...festivals...rodeos...etc

I do very well at local 4H fairs..... I would think Rodeos would also be good... Make sure to have displays with what you have to offer.. Anything you can add someones name too always goes over very very well... I tried to take a bunch of pre cut stuff but everyone always wants a name added to it.

New to the forum, and new to cutting Vinyl

The only time I use inkscape is to node edit files because that was the first one I used for that and like the way it is layed out. I am also the most comfortable with that. Once I got my computer with Flexi on it the only thing I use Corel for is printing my flyers and business cards and that is only because that's what I used years ago so they are saved as a cdr. I also have a TON of corel clip art so I use it to open and tinker with those. I guess long story short I'm really not "fluent" in either of them but have uses for both even with my very limited skill level. If I had to choose I would go with Inkscape because it's free and seems you can do most anything with it.

    3M Scotchprint 1080 Carbon Fiber

Yes it has a ton of depth.. Looks like they wove vinyl strips together to make it... It's very impressive. If you look around on the 3m site they will send you free sample packs of their 1080 wrap products. They are only like 4"x6" pieces but you really get a great appreciation for the colors and actual look.

New to the forum, and new to cutting Vinyl

I have an entry level cutter and have cut window film with it. I tint cars and houses. Recently I have been doing a few boats (yachts actually) and I have had a few customers wanting different designs put up on the bridge instead of tinting the whole window. They wanted it done with film instead of vinyl because it is less noticeable so its not as "loud" when looking at it. My machine cuts it but I have to run it as slow as I can and really really really play with the pressure. Now anytime I tint a car I keep the scrap pieces you use for setup when it comes time to cut film. I keep a separate blade I use just for film. I am sure with a better machine you would be able to just record the pressure but with mine it has a mind of its own. As far as doing tail lights and head lights I mix up a real light black and use that to "smoke" them. If they want a design done I just use regular vinyl as mask then paint them black. I have pics of an SSR I did last summer I will fire up the lap top and post them. They were just smoked and then put vinyl accents over that.

Thinking of starting sign and banner business

I would go with a graphtec with a basic sample pack. Get a few rolls of common colors white, blue, red, and use them. As the orders come in order more colors. The Graphtec machine is the way to go. I did the same thing when I first started and bought just an entry level machine and I am now kicking myself. When you get into smaller more intricate cuts nothing beats the Graphtec. As far as the clipart there are 1,000's of files here to get a great start on a collection I have a few discs I bought and very very seldom to I use anything from them. The only ones I use I got on a swap meet disc.

    My first store front sign

Looks good... Although appears the 4 Doctor's names should have been moved to the right a little.

Ideas for applying decal to tailgate

I would hinge it at the top and work my way down and over the raised piece. If you are going across the gate at an angle watch how you place the "F" to make sure it still looks like an F and doesn't appear to be an upside down L

    3M Scotchprint 1080 Carbon Fiber

Most of them turn out pretty sweet. I haven't printed one yet but am thinking of doing mine that way just have to come up with what I want on it. I wrapped one a few weeks ago with some wicked crazy chrome. I almost had to wear sunglasses while wrapping it the light kept catching it and almost blinding me. The guy has it in his game room in a cabinet with a bunch of different L.E.D.s we put in there that all "strobe" different colors. It looks really crazy when its dark in there. I will see if I can get him to send me some pictures.

Love the new Iphone rubber cases

I order generic silicone cases and covers and cover those with vinyl and sell a ton of them. I just like the whole sublimation idea so I can print any photo they bring in or do my own crazy designs.

For some reason in my area there is a HUGE demand for cell phone stuff. I wrap a lot of phones with carbon fiber vinyl. I ordered a few for the iPhone be here next week those will go fast also but everyone here has kind of gotten away from the iPhones.

Ideas for applying decal to tailgate

Not a big deal you just have to get it taped in place where you want it then you can get it up from there and apply in small sections. Instead of doing a single hinge method to install do a few hinges. If you haven't wrapped anything I would get something to practice on. I wrap all my stuff. Olfa knives, hard cards, cell phones, laptops, flash drives, anything I can get my hands on usually. Check out youtube search for vinyl wraps there are a ton of how to videos that show different methods of doing it. Just takes confidence and a little patience sometime. Just like tinting windows when you first start you can't be afraid of the curves or the film. When I first started I had to do all the back windows in pieces. Now there are only a handful that I don't do in 1 piece. Big reason why people come back to me is my 1 piece back windows and all I use is metalized films that last years..... (sorry wandered off topic a little)

    CoPam CP2500 communication problems

You will most likely have to update the driver for the dongle you recieved on your Windows 7 machine for Windows 7. I would contact Signcut or search google. I did a quick search and didn't see anything in the first few links.

    3M Scotchprint 1080 Carbon Fiber

I may have mispoke it probably was a 60" roll I was just going from memory and I know it was much much wider then I needed since it is mainly for wrapping vehicles. When I do wraps for the most part I just wrap them and trim out what I want to show. I am just starting to mess with wrapping Xbox 360's using a template. I am going to check out the textured rolls that UScutter has and go from there on ordering the 3m stuff.

Love the new Iphone rubber cases

I didn't mean copyrighted stuff. I meant the phone model Thunderbolt. There are some local "phone clubs" here that all have me do stickers for their cars and if someone offered these for the phones they all have I know they would all buy one with their printed logo on it. Now they all have silicone covers I put cut vinyl on. They look ok but not as nice as what you have there.

Different way?? Cut tile for layer??

I know in SignBlazer you can select an option to "cut as in document" (I think that is the wording) which allows you to have the cutter cut one of the layers the over all size of the whole graphic. I know Flexi is real big on cutting to save material. The only way I have found to do what I am trying to achieve is to physically change the tile size of one of the colors but is there a different or easier way? I am sure my words aren't real comprehensible so I will try with a picture also. This is just an example I put together real quick. If I were going to layer this and make a bunch of them ready to install as a single decal what I would do is go into the cut menu and stretch the "Black" tile to a slightly larger size then the whole decal and then layer everything to the text tile. But is there a setting to automatically have Flexi do this for one color for me? I know its not a big deal to do it my way I am just curious.

    Flexi Software

http://forum.uscutter.com/index.php?/topic/32178-signblazer-elements-605-cracked-and-tested/ I believe that is the working one. If not there is another link in the SignBlazer section

    Flexi Software

I personally LOVE my flexi. I was fortunate enough to buy a computer with it and even luckier to have found the dongle in another box at auction when a local guy went out of business. (Only downside is since its not registered to me I doubt I can get any support from SAi but there are some very knowledgeable people here.) Have you messed with the free Signblazer here yet? If you are just cutting vinyl then Signblazer will do everything that Flexi can do from what I have seen.
