  1. That is a good question and I  hope someone will post up the answer for you (us).

I have been making some metal signs, mostly for my own enjoyment.  I usually just use what I have on hand, 631, 651 or greenstar.

  2. Hello p3aul, I am not as well versed as most; but will try to answer.

If you save a jpg in AI with a .ai extension it is not a vector file.  As you said, it is pretty much a jpg with an ai extension.

I do not understand your "separate picture" comment, perhaps you meant "separate components"?

In the image above, and in AI; select the image and select trace and expand.  Now you have a vector file.  If you select the whole image and "Object, ungroup" - that should break the image into the separate parts.  Then use the white arrow to select the part of the horse you want to work on.

  3. As stated above, tracking is the issue with trying to cut those stripes.

That said, I cut pinstripes for my truck with my SC cutter.  I think I cut them to 20 feet.

As goose suggested above, I used SignCut Pro and did step by step cutting.  IIRC, I ran it 6 inches per step.  SignCut also, at that time, offered a free trial period to try out the software.
