I still haven't forgotten this project! Is the mold destroyed or reusable? Being camouflage ought to help with repeat business! Cal

    Sc series cutting long line

Mine does this same thing occasionally. I design in AI and import into SCALP. When this happens it is always on a new project. I go back to the original in AI, save it as an EPS and import that. That has always worked for me. Cal
  3. Hello, and welcome aboard - if I haven't earlier relayed that to you. What cutting program are you using? Can you post up a pic of what is does, it will help in getting an answer for you. Cal

    Yeti style mugs

I hate it when this happens... The wife calls Friday night and asks if I can etch a couple Yeti type mugs if she picks them up. Need them Monday AM for a conference she says... Is there a vector file for the requested image, no - just a jpeg... Well, the image was much too complex to simply cut out. The company allowed me to do whatever I could without restriction. The mugs are to be raffled off or given out as door prizes or some such. Oh yes, the black mug was an experiment. It came from Wally world with the black surface. I am not sure what it is. I am pretty sure it is not powder coat as it came off pretty easily... Cal

    Yeti style mugs

Hello Diverse, those are some nice mugs you have done up. The black Mossy Oak mugs are not powder coated (I do not think). It peels off pretty easy in the sandblaster. I am not sure how you would tackle real powder - it is tough stuff. Since you have messed up a mug (or two) you might practice with a higher pressure and less time. Cal

New signs - I'd Rather Be...

I have no idea how many days my sis & bil have been on a boat. Seems like every time I talk with her they are either leaving or have just returned from a cruise. I asked her about going on a cruise to Cuba with us and she told me they were booked up through summer of 2018, and that was about 3 months ago she told me that! Cal

    SC 24 is cutting oversize

Yes there is a way to calibrate in SCALP. IIRC, when you hit the cut tab, the first menu is cut settings. Go to the cutter settings in that menu, it brings up another menu called cutter settings. In there you will see "units" and "x resolution" and "y resolution". If I remember correctly, change those x & y resolutions. Mine are at 98%. Could be a little closer, but I manage with it. You just have to play around until you get it dialed in. Cal And welcome aboard!

  15. For those who may not know, flights (and glasses) can be considered as "samplers" at your local tavern or craft beer brewery. Instead of ordering a full glass of whatever they have, you might order a flight consisting of 4 or 5 small glasses of different brews. Since we are mid-way through August, it is not to early to begin thinking of new products you might do for the fall craft fairs. The flight itself is a fairly straightforward project if you have a reasonably well equipped wood shop. I used red oak for my trial and planed it down to 5/8". Most of them on Etsy seem to be 3/4", but I think the 5/8 looks slimmer and "more better". After making the flight I applied an oil base stain, when dry I applied a stencil and spray painted the design, following that up the next day with 3 coats of spray polyurethane. Before starting, I would advise getting your glassware. My wife found some Anchor Hocking #3165EZ available individually at Kroger. It is a nice little juice glass with a heavy bottom that holds 5 oz. It looks like it has straight sides, but there is a slight curve, sort of figure 8, to it. The design for this project is my son's home brewer label - "JM" in Baskerville font. I have done up three different sets of glasses (and flights) and I found I can use the same design I used on the full size glasses at 78% of full size. Somewhere in the 1.75" x 1.75" zone seems to be pretty sweet in my eyes. A word of caution here. If using the same design as used on a larger glass, be sure there is no arch to the design if you use this glass. The arch is not needed. Etching tips: for working the design, I started on paper of course. When I thought it was good, I put a couple onto a glass jar. An (empty!) olive jar was just about the same circumference as the 3165's and gave me a good feeling of confidence that the size was going to work. Next, the wife likes to drink flavored waters that comes in small plastic bottles. Another pretty decent match for the 3165. An excellent fit on the top, a little loose on the bottom. But, I can pop these on the glass and have it taped up ready for the sandblaster in less than 1 minute. Even less time on those glasses where I etched two designs on. My last tip is for taking the picture. I simply could not get a decent pic with my cell phone. I filled the glasses with black coffee (I know, cheating...) and took the pic in the dark with flash enabled on my small camera. I hope you can use some of this. I have sold 100 or more sets of 16 oz. glasses. I am hoping that a good number of those customers will repeat for this item. For my son the home brewer, this will be a gift to compliment the 6 pack holders I made for him a couple years ago. Cal
  16. Hello OW,

Doing some research for a memorial "something" I have to do.

Two local sheriff's deputies were shot and killed last week.  My wife has asked me to do a mirror or something that can be given to the sheriff's department.  Have not decided yet what I will do, but was searching through the archives and seen that you have done something similar.

Would you share it with me?  It may give me some inspiration or a big assist.

    Thanks,

    Cal Hyer

Correct vinyl to use to put decals on bar stools

Welcome aboard Holly. Can you provide some additional info. You will get a better response. Are the stools wood or metal? Smooth surface, or textured? Painted or stained surfaces? Location of the decal - on the seat, on the back support inside next to the person, on the back support outside away from the seated person? Are the stools old, or new? Whatever your answers to the above, I expect that preparation will be key here. Getting the stools clean, especially if they are older used ones. Cal
