White and red Oracal 651. Dave

minimum shipping for BlankShirts.com is $12.45. They say it's based on UPS rates. Dave

Nice idea. Different.

These so called crystal engraving lasers are usually a Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet) type laser. They're pricey and most of the ones i've seen are from China. Do a Google search and you'll get pages of info. Dave

My Husky/Shepard mix, Taz passed away last year. I thought it was time to try my hand converting his photo to vector for cutting. The EZ weed certainly lived up to it's name. When faced with a dilemma, I ask myself...What Would Taz Do?. Unfortunately the answer is chew it up or pee on it.

I wanted something easily readable. The first is a 3D rendering for the website. The other is for vinyl.

It was a steal @ $3K. It's 10 years old, which is ancient for a laser (with the original tube!) and still works at the rated power as best I can tell. I used to work at a visual effects studio in Hollywood where the owner used it for building miniatures. A few years ago when he was short on cash I bought it from him for a song. It was 28K new.

A few years ago I built a JGRO type DIY CNC router. Great for making wood signs and plaques. I also bought a used 25 watt Epilog laser. The laser is probably the most versitile tool I own. I can cut and engrave wood and acrylic as well as engraving on granite, marble and glass etc. I wish I had the marketing sense to make it more profitable. Dave

Runs off with a long line

Jim, Can you tell us what the solution was? My Refine did this once when cutting a complex design. Dave -
You may have hairlines set in Corel. Select the elements and for stroke, change hairline to none. This might help. Also when in SB, select the design and under 'Arrange' choose Split objects and check to see if they are ontop of each other. Dave

Ive noticed sometimes when I export from Corel into SB some letters don't cut completely. In my case it can be traced to nodes stacked on top of one another. Not sure why it happens. I'm exporting as an eps with Postscript 2 file compatability. The images tell the story... Dave

I noticed that too. Offset looks to be a bit high. The letters were typed in Corel, not traced. Dave

A customer wants pricing on a quantity (don't know how many yet) of single color vinyl stickers about 5 in. square. I usually get $5.00 on single stickers. I'll get the art in Corel format so not much set up. At what quantities do you make your price breaks, and by how much? Thanks, Dave
-
What do you call the vinyl designs we cut on our machines? Both definitions are vaguely similar. I use the term sticker as most people I know, but what's the difference? Dave

Got website up and running! First couple designs up.

Nice clean site. I did notice a few misspellings on the installation page though... Dave -
For you guys selling stickers online... Do you use Delivery Confirmation? I know it's basically useless but it seems to satisfy ebay/google shopping shipping requirements for chargeback resolution (or so they say). The problem is you can't use it with a flat first class envelope. Some people recommend inserting a packing peanut to get the envelope to the required 3/4 inch thickness for DC. Then you get charged more for postage 'cause it's not flat. What do you recommend? I'd like to keep postage rates as cheap as possible for a $5 sticker. Dave

I feel your pain. I'm building an ecommerce site for my graphics business in DW. Knowing a bit of html from a building site years ago really helped. Go between the code and design pages to see how your design looks in html and you'll soon get the hang of it. God Luck, Dave

I use Corel draw to design and export an eps to SB to cut. Corel far excedes SB's capacity for shape and node manipulation. Dave

I've been using tablets since 1984. I love 'em. I've got an old Wacom Intous 4x5. I used it for texturing CG models for tv shows. It's small size fits nice on a cluttered desk. My present PC doesn't have a serial port, so I run it through a usb emulator. Dave

I use Mach 3 to control the machine and Rhino 3D and Vcarve Pro for design. Pretty accurate for a machine made of plywood, iron gas pipe and rollerblade bearings. Dave

I had an air condition/heating duct installed a few years ago. I also have a small space heater to keep the equipment nice and toasty (mostly to keep the laser tube comfortable). I'm thinking of insulating the garage door to keep it a bit warmer in the winter.

I've taken over the garage with a homemade CNC machine, CO2 laser and now the vinyl cutter. Time to expand out to the barn. Dave
