WARNING: Don't Electrocute yourself. WARNING: Do this in a well ventilated area. The process creates Hydrogen Gas which is very flammable! WARNING: Wall of Text. This was only a test. I made a stencil from some 651 and covered the rest of the blade with scrap vinyl creating a water tight seal. I placed the blade in a salt water solution and attached it to a DC power source. I let it sit for a couple of minutes on a low voltage to etch. Then I reversed the polarity to electroplate the etching with copper. I don't know if I applied too much voltage (I had my DC source on high during this step) but the center triangle of my stencil came off after a minute and I stopped. It looks like some copper started to coat the etching but I can't be sure. It was fun and I plan to try again after some research.

Thank you for the files!

This was just an experiment using stuff I had on hand. I was hoping to create a fairly deep etch and then fill it back up with a different color of metal for an inlaid look. It was great fun and I may try it again after some research.

Thanks for the file.- 10 replies

I played with the settings and was able to get solid one piece horizontal lines. The output file had 48000 or so nodes! I reduced nodes with Corel Draw and it had around 5000 afterwards. I printed a 8 x 8 of the result on my laser printer. I think it would cut and weed ok. I may try it later for kicks.

Pure sine wave battery backup and surge protector. I unplug cutter and cutter computer when not in use. I use a cheaper battery backup for my design computer and network. I have this type of battery backup for cutter. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00429N19W?pc_redir=1406607781&robot_redir=1

Today was a slow day so I decided to do a few tests and kill some time. I made this license plate for myself. It's just a cheap plastic tag blank with white 651 and Polychrome Polished Chrome - Silver. It was a test because the Polychrome is close to 2 years old or older. I used a 60 degree blade and the chrome cut and weeded super easy and the adhesive was still super strong after all this time. I forgot to use registration marks so the chrome was applied wet. I think it turned out alright. I cut a couple extra of the chrome and plan to make another using a white tag and black or red 651. Thanks for looking.
-
Thanks mr300. The decal is centered to the tag but it's hard to tell because of the angle I used to minimize glare from the chrome. Unless you were referring to something else. Thanks again. edit: You were correct. I took a closer look and it is a little higher than center. good eye.

My Customer needs your help!

Posting the phone number is also a bad idea. I suggest you remove it asap. -
Do you nest your designs to save material or do you just cut it as is to preserve spacing and layout? They look great and the colors really stand out. Nice work.

Thanks shadow. That was my fear.

Will the air eraser work with a 1 gallon pancake compressor like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000BOCBAM?pc_redir=1405432016&robot_redir=1 How long could I blast with a full tank using the air eraser?

I have stuck old 651 and 631 decals to printer paper and cardboard. Maybe try a low tack tape. I have used decals that were masked and in a drawer for a year. Some were even masked with plastic tape and they stuck to paper fairly easy. They were not very intricate designs.

Does anybody usa a Line Conditioner or UPS on their Cutter ?
KYSIGN replied to efimage's topic in General discussion
I have my cutting computer and cutter on one battery backup. It has saved me a few times and paid for itself. I also have my design computer and network on another battery backup. edit: The backup for my cutter is a pure sine wave model by cyber power. It was about twice the cost of the one I use for my design and network that isn't pure sine wave. I have had a few outages while cutting some big jobs and it's paid for itself in wasted time and materials. -
Very nice. I bet that was fun to weed. What vinyl did you use?
-
It could be the battery or the power adapter. When you first boot the computer enter the bios and look for the battery. You should see the battery condition and charger type listed. If the charger is unknown it will not charge on most laptops. You should also try removing the battery and checking the contacts on the laptop. Then reinsert the battery and test.

Can I have your stuff when she kills you?

I have purchased vectors from stock sites and was unimpressed. They were just poorly traced versions of their raster versions.

grabbed for later. Thank you.

I clean with 50/50 solution of rubbing alcohol and water. I use the vertical center hinge method and use paper tape. Dry. No problems here.

I think the G from Lobster would work. http://www.whatfontis.com/Lobster.font?text=Geoff%20Dodds%20Transport The rest is similar to Billabong except for the D and T. Nowhere near perfect but it could help. http://www.whatfontis.com/Billabong-Italic.font?text=Geoff%20Dodds%20Transport

Check your blade. I had a blade that was still very sharp and did this. The blades shaft was bent slightly and would cause issues when cutting circles. I changed the seemingly good blade and it fixed the problem. Maybe it will work for you.

Select your power clipped images and either turn off outline or make it white. Then convert each to a bitmap. It will crop the image. Be sure you save it as a new file though. I use it sometimes for print and cut because it makes the file size much smaller. Be sure to adjust the dpi and color settings if needed.
