I can spend $300 on a machine . . . go!
slice&dice replied to CYNICALifornia's topic in Pre-sale questions
For those unfamiliar with the "carrier sheet" for the Silhouette, it's adhesive-faced plastic that holds the fabric taut, allowing for the blade to cut the cloth material, and then you can peel out the shapes. There are also paper-backed fabrics in the marketplace, which don't need a carrier sheet. For users of that small (12") desktop machine, there are several online discussion forums where crafters share information and tips and offer details about where various materials can be obtained. Now, regarding the choices presented in the opening post, why was a 34" MH listed, when the poster says " I don't foresee needing to cut anything larger than 24" ? If that's the case, the choice should be between the SC 24 and the MH 24 (MH721) -------- I own both, and the MH is noisier in operation. As for contour cutting, that's a can of worms that the novice will not likely want to open. -
DISCLAIMER: I've got ZERO experience with vehicle wraps. That being said, my understanding is that graphics professionals utilize ready-prepared vehicle templates for the specific models they are designing stuff for. http://artstation-vehicletemplates.com/

Just bought a 14" MH...........come on in!
slice&dice replied to strycnine's topic in General discussion
Well, it's not really a "rule", I was merely mentioning that it seemed excessive, where a little bit basic text would probably suffice. As for the catch basket, I absolutely love having one, it should be a standard included item on these stands. Maybe one day USCUTTER can work out a deal with their suppliers to incorporate the media basket as a feature? Presently, I have my MH871 in reserve, and it is not being utilized as my primary daily cutting machine. That duty is being filled in my sign store by a 34" SC unit. However, during the time I had it working as my main machine (before it was put aside) I never ran into any problems, so long as I kept the cuts under 10'-12' in length. Beyond that, the memory would max out and the machine would simply halt. This issue (as I was told) is related to the USB communication. Anyway, I'm using the SC with a serial cable, and don't have to worry about cutting any major lengths. For the record, the reason I stopped cutting with the MH and switched over to the SC, was one day I clumsily BROKE the USB port (literally snapped it off from the board). After that happened, I decided to get a replacement machine, and the SC seemed attractive from a features/price standpoint. I did obtain a new port card from USCUTTER for $50 and my MH is again working fine, although it sits unused and unloved in a corner of the studio. -

The longer stuff just folds into the basket, like old-fashioned ribbon candy -

You, sir, are a gentleman, and Thank You for pulling that pickup (create another classic sig line, go for it !!!!!!!!!) If you want to see another modification I did on that MH, take a look at the media catch-basket I made. -
LiYu-SC gets up and running, my 1st impressions

*bump thread* Here is a comment regarding the pressure rollers on the SC unit. If you slide the first pressure roller all the way over to the far-right until it stops on the track, it will actually MISS the lower grit roller completely. I kid you not. (The set-screw on the track in the rear is placed too far over) I have placed a bit of vinyl onto the top of my machine to indicate the farthest extent the pressure-roller should be placed, to remain in contact with the grit roller. The Blue arrow in my illustration indicates the point the pressure-roller should be located at. The Green arrow shows where it will be if you slide it all the way to the stop-point (set-screw) and that location will NOT WORK for guiding the vinyl properly. -

A friendly request for the Opening Poster strycnine ---- could you please reduce the size of your signature file (or eliminate it altogether) since it's so massive and overwhelming and fills up so much visual real estate. Now, with that being said, I have some input regarding the MH. Because you are planning on having it move around a lot, you will find that the USB cable can be a weak link. (The physical port itself is somewhat feeble) Here is my solution to avoiding damage to that port ------ I took apart the end cap (removes easily with four screws) and drilled two holes next to each other right into the plastic casing slightly above the port location. Then, using a zip-tie, capture the USB cable so it doesn't dangle loose from the port. This way, all the pressure is released from the cable tugging at the plug-in point. -
Old School sign guy with new SC & lost!
slice&dice replied to point blank design's topic in Introductions
It sounds like you are getting a few gray hairs. This link provides a download of the UK version, which will have the Liyu HF1202 driver that you need. To get the download to work correctly, use JZip to expand the archive, then you'll need MagicISO to mount the volumes, and then run BOTH the SignBlazer installers (first the non-UK version, and then the UK version) and then apply the crack. http://www.mystat.com/Signblazer.zip -
I don't get it. What am I missing here?

Hairline pieces of vinyl left along cut line?
slice&dice replied to BooKooGuru's topic in General discussion
Is this happening with letters/text ? Type a word in SignBlazer, cut it. What happens? Clean? -
**** rolls eyes **** Nice to see that you learned all there is to know about digital printing at your new job, Flaboy, and decided to quit from there, going off on your own to become a digital printing pro ---- Of course, you have tens of thousands of $$$ just sitting in the bank available for this endeavor? A roll of 3M premium wrap film (IJ-3650) 60" x 50 yards is priced at $780. Then there's the inks --- you may need up to eight cartridges, some costing $115 each. http://www.uscutter....3-B-MKISPC-0440 For wrapping vehicles, 60" is the way to go. H-P, Mimaki, EFI are three of the leaders. http://www.mimakiusa.com/ You really need to talk to a local distributor of digital machines. Or visit a trade show and see for yourself what's out there. This subject is not something you can easily evaluate and discuss randomly in a forum like this.

Is Signblazer E compatable with Liyu SC631E cutters?
slice&dice replied to Stealth's topic in SignBlazer
LiYu SF631 is listed in my SBE cutter setup configuration list. Is it listed in your version of SBE? What price is being asked? -
Two inches? Really? Well, that's your problem right there.

Is Signblazer E compatable with Liyu SC631E cutters?
slice&dice replied to Stealth's topic in SignBlazer
Should be. Since you're already running SBE, have you checked to see if that cutter listed in cutter setup? -
At what size is this design being cut? It may very well be that the SC is incapable of dealing with these very fine lines below a certain resolution. In other words, you may be asking the cutter to exceed its limitations on these tiny pieces. I have never tried to get my SC to perform anything so detailed, I keep things to outline shapes whenever possible and avoid all those interior cuts.
-
It does seem that I've seen more than a couple of complaints here on the forum indicating some SC cutters are shipping with their cutting head off the tracks (wheels not seated correctly). This is something you can check yourself with a minor amount of disassembly, worth a look.

Does anyone have 2 honey bees kissing?? Clip art in color??? EPS???

Not Honey Bees, but they are kissing -
Screenprinting coroplast 'bandit' signs is something you'll be doing a lot of.

Howdy. Can you point to one thing that you discovered here, which assisted you? Just curious to see how we're doin'

Good call, Robspace, mistakenly I overlooked the OP request for those instructions in Illustrator, and provided the SignBlazer details instead. My entire world is SignBlazer, so that's how I automatically think.

You may need USCUTTER support to log into your computer remotely and see what isn't set correctly. Something isn't, obviously.
-
sc is LiYu HF-1202. The SignBlazer UK version can be cracked (eliminating the start-up screens).

158c and 165c -- very close to each other (158 is slightly more brownish) How does one compare Pantone and get a close match to Oracal? Is there a chart anywhere? (other than visual matching with the Oracal color swatches)
