Like Skeeter said, it depends. Some is vector and you can import them to your cutting software. A lot of the Microsoft Clip-Art is vector format.

I agree with OW. I started with an Air Eraser and it took ten times as long and you can't get a deep etch. You still need some sort of cabinet or you make a mess not to mention the possibility of breathing in some of the abrasives. I found a blast cabinet online that was $99 with free shipping. I attach my shop vac to it to keep the airborn particles down.

All PDF's are not created equal. It will not always be "Nice and Neat". It depends on how the graphics were created. PDF's are print documents so the layering of the graphics is not always cut friendly.

I've got another crazy idea. Lets cut the corners off of $20 bills and tape them to $5 bills to make counterfeit twenties. -

To adjust the vertical spacing, use Node Edit. Two boxes show up, one adjusts the horizontal spacing between the letters and the other adjusts the vertical spacing between the lines. No need to convert it to curves.

Check your material size in the Cut Setup screen. It sounds like it is breaking it up into "Tiles".
