    Anyone brew their own beer?

bb - I'm going to ask even though I know that it's all relative - was/is the process difficult for making cider? I mean, outside of the mushing of the apples and stuff. I'm wondering about the part where you need to start having the brewing equipment. I saw that there is a 'make your own cider' home brewery kit, but didn't find any instructions for it online.

    Scanner opinions ...

Mahalo everyone! I've owned an Epson scanner before, and liked the results, but that scanner is long gone and now I'm in need of a new one. I was considering going back to Epson, but admittedly I wasn't fond of their software, but it sure did scan my slides and 35mm negatives beautifully. I don't think I'll have the need for that in this day of digital photos, but just wanted to see what others were using and if they either love it or hate it. I will definitely take a look at canon scanner too! Mahalo!!!
  3. welcome to forum. i would suggest you let us know which cutter you have. the cutter cuts from right to left, front to back. so basically your starting position should be on the right side, clearing enough vinyl in the front, so it tracks and you can get your blade on it. when you finally have you starting position, reset your x,y positions to 0,0 by reseting the "home". from there it should go well. don't forget to make sure that whatever it is you're cutting won't end up depressing the red "kill" button on the cutter. to remedy that problem, just scoot yoru vinyl over a bit and reset the "home" position. good luck!

    Anyone brew their own beer?

Yeah, I'm wondering if that's what he is going to end up doing too. Then that'd be a total waste of a gift. :- I wonder what the secret is to make tasty home brew. Is it the ingredients, the method, or someone who actually like funky tasting beer?
  5. Let's here it. What was the very first thing that got you past being a cutting virgin (please don't move this to the mature board ) I couldn't find what I needed, so I bought a cutter to do it myself ... "I discriminate against stupid people." - jenism Don't have pic of any of them, but handed out a bunch, until I smartened up and started charging less than time and material ... wait, that's still not smart is it? Hahaha... Who cares, I just wanted to share my wicked sense of sarcasm with the world!!!

    Where is haumana?

I should be popping in more often. Now that I have "clean" electricity here - the old wiring kept on frying the filaments in the incandescent bulbs (no comments about the going "green" with CFL's - the incandescents came with the house and I'be been replacing them with CFL's as the blow. I think I already replaced half the bulbs here. Friday we get the carpeting for the bedroom and my office. We still don't have any window treatments, so everyone on the street can see me wake up with a disorientated look on my face wondering where the hell I am, and what are those strange noises. At least the kids that walk to school and get dropped off haven't started making fun of 'the weird lady' with the dogs across the street. I've been crashing here for the last couple of days because the electrician has been coming in at 8am sharp, and I'm not inclined to waking up early just to get stuck in traffic to drive 7-miles away from home. So for now, I have what I need for a remote office, and with any luck will be moving the cutter soon so that my office can feel complete. Although I want to make sure that I have some kind of curtains or blinds. Rght now I'm tempted to just stick vinyl on all the windows just for some privacy. Hahahaha.
  7. I'm the same way for the first part (when you're broke, everything is fair game!!) ... although I think I have far more theory than I ever will apply. Although I do notice that when the bank account is low I theorize how much I should be marking up some of the hardware/software I resell and will usually apply that to the billing invoice. Does that count? Hahahaha.

    My new hobby!

no pics = no bull ride, only bull $h!t. Awe, you know I'm just kidding! Dude, where are the pics??? Next you'll need a stetson 10-gallon and you'll be listening to Garth Brooks! Not quite a bull, but probably fun to ride. Hahaha.

  10. You know, now that you mention that, I think I noticed the same thing when I first got my LP, but then totally dismissed it because it was in metric to boot. Hahahaha.

    Word of the day

I would say it's the guy's equivalence to a "in the mood" barometer. Depending on the weather you get from your significant other - "Today it's icy cold, tomorrow will be torrid. You might see some fair weather when the weekend comes around, with possibilities of high heat."
  12. I'm a left brainer, almost no creativity unless it's something McGyver-ish, then I can ususally hold my own. Usually any creativity that I am actually able to come up with is usually when I'm driving (and probably being an impatient driver), or getting bad service (stores, restaurants, etc.). Then I can come up with all kinds of creative things ... but I think that's probably best left for the mature section of the forum

    What and when to use

I wanted to know what to use and when to use it. When should I be using cast vinyl and when should I be using calendared vinyl? Here are the various applications that I've been asked to do stuff for ... vehicle glass windows vehicle body (paint on metal or fiberglass) other vinyl (spare tire cover) metal substrate (signs) colorplast (now that I know what it is) indoor/outdoor walls (glossy, semi-gloss, and satin finishes) fiberglass (marine use) I'm sure there are a few others that I cannot think of at the moment. I just wanted to ask the experts. If I had a heat press, then I'd be asking about that stuff too

    help me make a choice

Five - when you're done with your test drive, send it to me to test drive too.
  17. Jay - You're the bomb when it comes to screen shots. Unfortunately when I'm on this forum, most times in on my monster machine instead of the laptop that I use for my cutter :- Hopefully that will all be fixed soon.

  20. Sounds pretty strange. To post a file, click on "Additional Options..." at the bottom of the reply box and you can attach file there. I think if you post the file we might be able to get it working for you right.

    Craftrobo????? should I buy it?????

There are several members here who consider the 24" and at times the 36" as a "desktop" cutter. What are the biggest thing you think you'll be needing to cut?
  22. First off Please do not take this the wrong way, but is there a reason why your items need to be cut in a specific order? Or is the issue that it's not cutting it as you've laid it out in the cutting software. And if that's the case, then you need to share a bit more info - such as what Jay asked, what software are you using? Which model cutter do you have? Could you share your file with us so that other members so we can test cut it and let you know our results.

    Info in Signature....

I know, I know ... call me A/R. [You know I'll never be a moderator, so I'll just put in my in ... and hopefully not get my wrist slapped ] Can we somehow make it an unofficial rule ... or should I call it a courtesy, that members list the cutter(s), cutting software(s), and connection type that they regularly use. It seems that might help clarify some of the first round responses to a lot of the requests that are posted .. Which cutter do you have? How are connected? What program are you using to cut? Can you post the file so we can troubleshoot it? blah, blah, blah... I'm just sayin', ya' know . I participate in another forum and I need to list all the pertinent info (make, model, year, etc.).

it's a bit too complex for me, but if you repost in a new thread, you'll get more assistance.
