Can I get by without a cutter stand?

Hey! It's the new techie! WooHoo! new techie! I hope we don't scare you off OP: Glad you decided to get the stand. I was on the fence about that too, but then some mentioned "dog hair" and then it became a no-brainer. I found that the vinyl will pick-up a lot of lint (static or passive), so dog hair was going to be even worse.
  2. I guess out best guide might be other people's website I would say to use eBay, but then everyone would go broke. I can't imagine that I should charge so little on my everyday stuff for what some of the auction end at. Before we got our local kiosks in the malls, the only other place I saw it was at a kiosk in a northern california mall. i had two decals cut for me. it was text using the Papyrus (so it wasn't even something "special"), and all it was was a website address. The decals weren't more than 12" long, and I paid $10/each. Now knowing how much that material actually cost I feel totally ripped off, but i did look great Maybe $1/1" isn't that bad of a deal - if it's simple weeding.

    LP24 Assembly Help

Have your new tech also notate on the assembly instructions that the uprights should be convex side out, and how the chrome media bin holders are put together. Those were the two main thing I got hung up on.

Need some advice ... best way to do this?

Okay, so I've somewhat started the "testing" phase of my learning curve here. Have a few lame questions ... I guessing that clear would be the best bet application tape to use, but how necessary is it? I ask because I only have paper tape and need to know if I need to run out and buy myself a roll of the clear stuff. If I do need to use clear application tape is ORATAPE 95 OPTIVIEW Application Tape suitable? I'm guessing that will be the cheapest clear application tape at my local supply store, and I'd probably have to buy the entire roll 14". I noticed from the video that some of the colors aren't (the text), while others were one on top of the other. How many layers is too many layers, and is there any special handling (besides a steady hand) and application I would tell my customer about? Will the edges of some of the layered colors start to peel or curl after some time has passed?

Mahalo everyone! You guys are soooo the bomb. Awesome video. I feel a lot better tackling the project now. WooHoo!! Thanks Goodwin for the vector. I'll give it a go, although I think it'll take me a lot longer than 5-minutes (as shown in the video) to layer the vinyl like that. No time like the present to give it a try though This has got to be the best forum on the internet!

    HONEY BEE'S

Well I hope that Terry at least seasoned it or marinaded the mystery lizard prior to grillin' I don't think I've learned so much about bees in my entire life until I read this thread. I'm just happy that I'm not allergic to bees. My cousin is and she's always good about carrying around her epi pen. She got stung once while on campus, she asked a stranger to run to the nearest phone to call 911 (this was before the days of cell phones), the guy just looked at her like she was stupid. Another person came by and graciously drove my cousin to ER. Scary stuff.

Need some advice ... best way to do this?

I thought about that, but the local shops around here only to "big" orders (100+ decals). I think I have a lot of practice ahead for me
  15. If so, do tell. The boyfriend's birthday is coming up next month and I was thinking about getting him a Mr. Beer or Beer Machine . He tends to like some of the fru-fru beer stuff (i.e. Michelob Honey Lager, Waialua Wheat (a local brewery makes it flavored with passion fruit), etc.). I'm not a beer drinker, and when I actually drank beer it was season (after canoe regattas and long distance races), and even then it would something like Hornsby. I researched about doing the more hardcore "home brewery" stuff, but it looks so complicated. Maybe I should just get him the krups draught kegerator and be done with it. Any suggestions??

Need some advice ... best way to do this?

Thanks! I know that I need to learn how to do it, so this is definitely a trial by fire. I know that I need to separate by colors, do does everything fit together like a puzzle, or is layering best? I will definitely try to "home made" registration marks like you guys have suggested in some of the other postings. Is there any wet application fluid I should be using while to trying to fit everything together or do I just a really steady hand? I guess I should be glad that the decals are small to start me off.

    Pen tablet

I was thinking about getting a tablet, but then I nixed the idea when I realize that the extent of my creative drawing abilities didn't go beyond stick people and hangman. I have friends and family who have them, and they swear that it's "the cat's meow." Although when the cat ran away with the pen tool to take it exploring throughout the neighborhood they had second thoughts about getting a replacement.

    Scanner opinions ...

I'm in the process of looking for a new flat bed scanner. Anyone would there have any suggestions for good ones, or ones that I should steer clear of? It doesn't need to have a super high resolution, but something decent would be nice. I think I can budget it up to $300 - $350.

  23. Yah, family can be an inspiration at times. But a lot of times they're a pain in the butt too. I find that if I can get any inspiration from them, I usually need to make a mental note and not say anything out loud, else they cease to share stuff. Then again, most of the stuff that I derive any inspiration from is usually smart@ss remarks. My family are bunch of witty smart@sses, it can awfully painful if you can't keep up with them.

    FRIGGEN GAS PRICES!!!!!!!!

We just cracked the $4/gal on O'ahu, and the outer islands are on their way to over $5/gal soon. I agree with John. The people elected Gore, but the stupid college electoral votes got Bush in office. That has got to be the stupid system. I remember seeing all those PSA before election - "Your vote counts", etc. Well, as we all learned with the Gore vs. Bush incident, that in reality it sorta counts. Made me not want to vote anymore. Stupid system. Of course you didn't see any type of legislation changes to the election process ... like making the popular vote count. College electoral is just as dumb as delegates and super delegates. We should just them decide the next president. Sorry peeps. Just had to put that out there. If y'all haven't figured out by now, the soap box that stand on is pretty dang big.
  25. I really never ventured into vector art before getting my cutter back in November (outside of the CAD). Now I see the lite and try to most stuff in AI if I can. I'm more versed in PhotoShop and Fireworks because it's the fastest means for me to prep raster images for web design. Jenny, is your daughter on PC of Mac? Which operating system is she using? Jay, Adobe acquired Macromedia a while back. Now everything is starting merge. At least Adobe didn't fuss around too much with the apps that Macromedia had branded and distributed globally. Basically Adobe engulfed probably their closest competitors.
