My darn cars engine went on vacation!! and the kicker is....
sleeveofwizzard replied to Pcrat's topic in Off Topic Section
I think about this sometimes, it is a different world today then when I was young. I grew up in a small town and people picked each other up all the time. I hardly ever walked all the way whenever I was on foot. The fuel pump in my suburban went out a few weeks ago and I had to walk a few miles in the heat. I wasn't surprised that no one stopped but I was reminiscing about how it used to be the whole trip. I do make a point to stop when I see someone that looks like they could use a hand. Either on the side of the road broken down or walking in a place that doesn't look like they really want to be walking. The pay it forward attitude can benefit everyone. I do not recommend picking up hitchhikers. Also here in my area there was a news report about a young girl being used by gang members to lure people into picking her up and drive to an ambush location where they were robbed. Just something to think about. -
your asked to do lettering ... never a font
sleeveofwizzard replied to Pcrat's topic in General discussion
The font is one of those things that a lot of customers don't think about until you mention it. It can make or break the sign if the font doesn't fit the customer or situation. I really try to get a web address, business card or picture of an old sign. Something with a font or style to it so I know what they are used to. It seems common that they don't think it matters until they see Times New Roman on their store window and you can see the disappointment on their face. I also prefer to send a proof of what it is going to look like so that there is no confusion. Font and extra style elements are a great way to upsell a customer. It is almost a guaranteed sale when you send two proof pictures, one with a boring font and straight lines of text like they requested and a second with some scrolls, a cool font, and two colors. -
Good work on everything. I wish that all my customers gave me complete creative control and did not hold me to a tight budget but that is a dream. Sometimes the the customer will listen to your professional advice and sometimes they don't. The coro sign could have 5 layers or even a printed picture if they wanted to pay for it but if they requested that specific layout then thats what they are going to get. I would have offered my opinion like TimnAng but the customer is the boss.

● Transfer Vinyl & Vinyl Decal verbiage ●
sleeveofwizzard replied to Plaigh's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
It seems like we are all playing the telephone game sometimes. I associate transfer with heat: vinyl, printed, rhinestone and so on are heat transferred. Adhesive vinyl is for signs, windows, banners, and whatever else you feel like sticking it on. Some people say stickers, some decals others vinyl maybe it depends what part of the country you live in ha ha. -
Banner Condition.... Take 2
sleeveofwizzard replied to xpaperman's topic in Criticism and Complaints about USCutter
Yeah that is CRAZY! I completely understand that mistakes happen, things are forgotten, no problem because I screw up sometimes too. Your situation is just absurd. Like I mentioned before, my local distributor shorted me on some product and made special arrangements for me to get the rest early the next morning. They also gave me a free 4' x 8' banner for my trouble and I got text messages, phone calls and emails from about 5 different employees apologizing for the mistake. They all wanted me to have their contact info on hand so I could reach them if needed. -
Let us know what it went for and how it comes out.

Anyone need any discount remodedelling done?
sleeveofwizzard replied to OWJones's topic in Show your work
WOW that lettering is really bad! I can't make much sense out of the different slants between the various parts. The spelling is not so shocking but still funny. I cut out a line of text on 10 coro signs the other day. Took my wife to catch it, thank god (golf tounament). I recut just the word tournament and replaced it, worked out great. For me it happens when I get really busy or work on big projects I start to miss little things like that. I am a terrible speller but think it's cute how so many people ignore all the squiggly red lines under the words they type. I mean really in most any instance on a computer there is an auto spell check present and in other cases is an option to use. -
Not sure how active Craigslist is in you area but I bet a dollar your cutter would sell pretty quick where I am.

Nice detail in the tree, good job. Did you use registration marks?

There was an MH series with stand, software and a little vinyl on Craigslist in my area for a couple months, they wanted $600 for it! Couldn't help but laugh that they were really hoping to get that much because they never dropped the price.

PLEASE! Looking for a No Parking Template
sleeveofwizzard replied to samconst's topic in Graphic Requests
Personally I can handle the graphics but would get hung up on choosing a font for an hour. I have too many fonts on my computer and can never settle on one. -
Looking For Caterpillar Name for Loader
sleeveofwizzard replied to Countryside Graphics's topic in Graphic Requests
Wow I just watched a three part video on the making of channel lettering with neon lights. That is way more difficult than I imagined! -
Welcome to the forum, we all agree that it is a great source of knowledge.

Ha ha I like it. I saw one on the interweb yesterday that is probably one of the most offensive I have ever seen. Kinda want to share because I am shocked that someone would drive around with it on their car and that someone would cut it out for them but it is racist and offensive.

JPSS and 3G opaque inkjet transfers have a few limitations as well. JPSS is great on white shirts but I have not had much luck on other colors. 3G Opaque can show a white edge where the paper is cut. It is basically an iron on paper that is printed on.

Online Sales, where are they?
sleeveofwizzard replied to sleeveofwizzard's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Ha ha, ever since I have been doing this full time I am a lot more stingy with my vinyl. Hate to waste any now, I just see dollar signs going down the toilet. I wish I had a new body style suburban because I saw some stuff I would really like to cut but I am stuck in the past with my 1999. I am going to work on the design tonight. -

I get a decent amount of likes on the page and on individual stuff but no sales. I like sharing my work and apparently others people think its neat but thats about it. It is mainly my friend circle though, not many likes other than people I already know personally. -

Yeah I agree! I only have my company sign on the back of my main vehicle a suburban. I am trying to think up a really good looking graphic to put on the sides with my company name and number. Of course I feel like this vinyl has to look GREAT so that people will see it and get excited about their own vehicle and idea. That is what has slowed the process so far, I just can't think anything up for my truck. -

Ha, I will confess something here. I still only have one medium size sign on my car. I just can't come up with an idea to put on my own vehicle. I do pretty good creating stuff for my customers but when it comes to my own, yikes! I am sure using more of my giant suburban add space would be beneficial to me. I better actually get to work on it. -

I have been in sales for about eight years, selling for companies. I am very familiar with the ups and downs of it. I have always been fortunate enough to have large advertising dollars and trusted brands under my belt though. Now it is all me and self generated leads only. What a difference I tell you, my last year working for someone else I sold $330,000 in services. -

Thanks paperman, I am doing these same things for the local business. That area could be better but I am trying. My frustration comes from the fact that I have heard from others on the forum and other places that most of their business comes from online sales. I don't expect that but I would definitely like getting a few dollars here and there from online sales. I agree that the online market place is flooded but I think I should be able to get a little piece too, hopefully. -
New Cutter! First run with small text
sleeveofwizzard replied to Wildgoose's topic in Show your work
That is awesome man! If I cut that on my laser Point it would look like a scribbled mess with a bunch of missing letters.
