Ronzilla0 0 Posted February 23, 2015 Hi All I was just wondering if anyone has used a MH cutter to cut light wieght card for stenciling or the such, if so did you use a carrier sheet? any insight would be great. i make a lot of cardboard models and card board templates for model building if anyone has some insight, it would be greatfully recieved. slice&dice 2,450 Posted February 23, 2015 The design of these cutters is to provide a very, very slight amount of pressure, which allows the blade to go through a thin layer of fragile vinyl material, while just barely touching the backing paper. If you want the blade to cut cardboard pieces, it probably can work by sticking the blade out further from the holder, but you will end up with dull blades after a few sheets (cardboard is murder on these carbide blades) and the underlying cutting strip will get torn to shreds.
Ronzilla0 0 Posted February 23, 2015 thanks slice&dice. thats why i was thinking of a carrier sheet? to stop the damage to the cutting strip. thanks for the heads up on the blades
slice&dice 2,450 Posted February 23, 2015 I have an MH machine sitting right here --- would you like to see a video of it slicing&dicing a sheet of card stock? (index card) http://youtu.be/dvwwF3JcNYc The use of a carrier sheet would certainly be recommended !!! Otherwise, I cannot see how you would achieve the cuts on interiors of letters and designs. Wildgoose 4,200 Posted February 24, 2015 To answer your question, yes it will work. Just use a carrier from a Cricut you can pick up at walmart or similar. You might even get by with some clear transfer sheet or used carrier from HTV shirt vinyl if it's Siser or another brand that has tacky backing.
