My first sandblasting experiment

Recommended Posts

I've been using chemical etch to do pint beer glasses..  I picked up an air eraser today and played around with it.

The is a picture that I took of my daughter and brother in law riding his horses.  The picture was a silhouette of them against a hillside.  Used a little photoshop and then converted that to a filed to cut the vinyl.

My little $28 experiment was a success, so now it's time for a real blasting cabinet.

Wow, that is awesome!

Where did you pick that eraser up at?  I was looking at grabbing one at Harbor Freight to just give a try.  I have a cabinet, just need the gun.

It's the harbor freight one.  Definitely pick up a good mask, rubber gloves and protection glasses.  It's messy.

I'm going to pick up a cabinet in the next couple weeks.

Sweet man, thanks for the tips!

Not a problem.  It's fun but messy.  Hopefully the cabinet will make a huge difference in keeping everything clean.  I might have to pick one up this weekend.  I have 11 coffee mugs and 4 beer glasses to do.  If I do coffee mugs for my coworkers (real job) that would be another 7.

I have a few other folks interested in beer glasses, and my brother wants me to do some mirrors for awards for his boy scout troop.  I also have the chance at doing 170 wine glasses for a charity event, but that won't be until spring.

I say get yourself a cabinet!  haha :)

I cleared the cabinet through my finance minister.... Had to make sure she wasn't getting me one for X-mas

Here is the plan

So it be done without a pressure pot  :) :)

Yup.  Did it with one of these.  http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=99636

I was covered with dust standing in my driveway while it was about 15 degrees out.

At least with a blasting cabinet, I can be in the garage where it will be about 20 degrees.  :)

Actually between coffee mugs my wife wants for X-mas gifts and orders I have about 30 glasses to do this weekend.

Heck, I just went to the dentist this morning and the receptionist ordered 5 coffee mugs.. and the hygenist gave me two of her dental pics to help with weeding the vinyl.  :)

Just got back from harbor Freight and picking up the Blasting Cabinet.

$299 box was on sale for $219, then at checkout the cashier said if I bought the $35 extended warranty, I could get 25% off the entire order....Saved a few more bucks by spending a little more.  Considering I picked up about $80 worth of other unrelated stuff, I saved quite a bit.

Tomorrows project, put it all together and start blasting.

50% sales, 50% gifts, but getting more leads for sales as more people see them.
