  1. I'd put all my music on disc and listen to it on my way to paddling practice. I labeled the disc, "Paddling Trash". It helped to motivate me to stay positive in the canoe while I steered and tried to keep the other paddlers on track. I definitely helped with a LOT of my practices, especially since that was the only exercise I was getting
  2. I currently use my Vaio laptop with SBE for my LP. I've been considering purchasing another cutting software to install on my monster box and was wondering if I should just get another copy of SBE, since that's what I'm using now, or if I should try one of the other ones (Flexi Starter or SignCut X-2) - since they all seem to be competitively priced. Just wanted to know what your guys thoughts are.
  3. Honestly, it still sounds like a surge or spike got to your equipment while you were out. The equipment doesn't need to be on to be effected, it just needs to be plugged it. If you had your PC and/or cutter plugged into a surge protector and/or UPS, then there's a chance that's bad too (it can still work, it just won't function up to the original specs). You don't think it's odd that two pieces of electronic equipment decided to wink out on you at the same time? It can even be a brown out. Could be a power strip went bad, could be a UPS went bad, could just be a LOT of static electricity in the room. Anytime there's a power outage here, one of the first things I do is run around the house and unplug all power strips that have sensitive and/or expensive equipment on it - including the UPS I run. Keep us updated. BTW - If you want to try to "save" your old HP, you can just by a power supply and do the swap yourself. Just know that HP's are not ATX, so the power supply probably won't fit very nicely, but you will be able to get it to work. Dirt cheap power supplies can be had for less than $20.
  4. Try setting it from LP to PCut and see if that helps. Can't ever guaranty anything, but it couldn't hurt ... what's the worst that can happen?? it's not like there's good communication between the PC and cutter right now.
  5. I have a dreadmill too. At first I was all gung-ho. Then when I would check the approximate calories burned while I was on it ... it just seemed like a huge waste of time. Since we've moved, it has been blocked in the designated "workout" room (the itty-bitty room in the basement). There's is next to no incentive to unblock it ... until I either install a tv in the workout room (which will probably then turn into a tv room) or a decent stereo. I've tried to do stuff with my ipod, but I'm usually less inclined to clip it to myself, or the head wires just keep on getting in my say. I love my music ... old school, new school and just about everything in between. The perfect workout music for me is either one that keeps a good beat, or one that is somewhat (mildly) inspiring or fun to listen to ... or a combination of both. If I had to choose between a tv or a stereo, I'd definitely go stereo. Someone once told me that he considered a tv "the dumb box." You sit, watch, and your brain cells slowly die off While I may not kill brain cells when I watch tv, I am less inclined to do anything productive
  6. Exactly. I have never had any trouble with my SBE either but I too saw the post about closing cuts better. It has me curious. SBE is all I have ever used and i really like it, but if there is another program that will make my cuts look better I am interested in looking at it. I especially don't care for how some of my text cuts. It is my only complaint.
  7. SBE has worked for me ... only because that's what Ken recommended when I bought my LP, and it's the only software I have that can interface with the cutter. I was considering other stuff because there was a post about SBE not quite closing the cuts and when this person downloaded and used the trial version of Signcut X-2, it managed to finish all the cuts on the money. While I finally have my SBE setup so that there is no (knock on wood) issues with my LP, I still lurk in the LP bulletin boards and see how much trouble everyone is having with SBE (probably because that's what shipped). Others here have nothing but good stuff to say about Flexi & Sign Cut. I figured if I'm going to buy another license of some kind of cutting software, it couldn't hurt to consider what else is out there. I could you a little more cross training to add to my skill set.

    getting Frustrated

You can try selecting PCut instead of LP. When I bought my LP there was no LP option. Ken told me to use the PCut and I've been a happy camper since.
  9. I often disconnect my laptop from the cutter. What I've found is that I need to have the laptop completely booted-up before connecting then turning on the cutter. If the cutter is on prior to connection (because I loaded up the vinyl, etc.), than I get an error.

    fonts went nuts!

Well I ended up going into the fonts library and taking out some fonts that I downloaded from dafont.com. That seemed to make it better. Is there any chance that I had accidentally installed a font that became the default?

What do you have as a wallpaper?

Same here on my MacBook. I have the match stick on my monster box, a zen garden on a second MacBook, and totally black on my Vaio laptop.

    gas prices

Umm... I don't remember... I was usually the DD, so everyone bought/brought their own booze, and chipped in a bit for gas. But from I can tell, gas 6 years ago here was about $1.60 ... and I've been driving a lot longer then 6 years

Where do you get most of your graphics?

I'll be the first to admit ... on the internet But I also don't do signs and/or decals as a "day job," like a lot of you guys. As tempting as it is, even after seeing how many are doing it on eBay - I will not sell copyrighted stuff that I do not have permission to use or replicate. I try my best to stay "above board" for everything that I do in life - it helps me to sleep at night
  18. I see a lot of people asking how thick of a card stock they can cut or grip tape - not realizing that because the media needs to be spooled back and forth, that an adhesive backing of some sort is required. I know that laser engravers/cutters are not cheap, but if US Cutter can do for the laser engraving industry as they are doing for vinyl cutting, then I'll be one of the first in line to purchase one ... even if the shipping to get it here is ridiculously outrageous. It can range from table-top size to gi-normous / ha-mungous size! I've always wanted a laser engraver (because I do some small woodworking on the side), even longer than I've wanted to get a vinyl cutter. The vinyl cutter is affordable (thank you US Cutter), but a decent laser engraver isn't (10k+). That's my suggestion
  19. example: Suppose you can buy your vinyl at $3.75/foot (based on a 15" width). For 24" that would cost you $7.50. Chances are you are not going to cut something that large, so find out what the cost per square is 15x24= 360 sq.in.; $7.50/360 = 0.02083333.... If the design you cut is say 4" x 4", then just make sure that you charge more than (16 sq.in. x .21 = 3.36) your actual cost of vinyl. Now that doesn't take into consideration your time and wear and tear on your machine. If you can buy vinyl cheaper then use the same principle. Same goes if you use vinyl more expensive. A lot of times I just guess at what it would cost if they could find the design in in the store for. If it's a complicated design that takes a lot more weeding, than increase the cost. Only you can decide what your time and effort is worth.

Researching cutters but I am clueless.

First off ... to the forum!! The cutter won't know the difference between an image of a photo, a regular graphic, or text. It's all vector information to the cutter. There are basically two ways to "render" a graphic - raster ( .bmp, .jpg, .tif, .png, etc.) or vector (.eps, .ai, etc.). Now don't be fooled by .eps - that type of file can be either raster or vector. Anything you send to the cutter must be vector. Not to worry, many forum members are here to help you through this process .... God knows they helped me I personally have the LaserPoint and couldn't be happier. If money is no object than I'd recommend the Graphtec or Copam. I'm sure they must much quieter than the LP. Weeding ... Basically it's removing any and all vinyl that isn't supposed to be part of your final design. Once that's done, the application tape goes on (if you need to do a wet application, than paper application is the way to go). As far as a photo being cut, then applied - it just all depends on how well you photo is vectorized. There are different programs out there that can do this for you. Sign Blazer Elements can do it, but I don't know that many people here use that feature. For those of us who are broke, such as myself, I use Inkscape. It's free and there's even a bulletin board on this forum for Inkscape related questions. As I said before, as long as it's vecotrized, it can be cut. Good luck! Caveat - this forum is highly addictive, consider yourself warned
  21. cutme sounds right. there might have been a surge, spike, or brown out that could have possibly fried some stuff - the power supply on the your computer, and some of the more sensitive stuff on the cutter.
  22. help us out ... how are you connected to the cutter? you're using sign cut?? so you're hooked-up to a mac? it sounds like a software issue. make sure all the settings are correct in the cutting software before sending it to the cutter (i.e. drivers, cutter, etc.).

    The ^ < V game.

^ it's a toss between the heat or all the public school kids hanging out everywhere. < getting ready to head up to the "old" house to prep it for painting so we can get it listed for sale. V If could meet one person (living or dead), who would it be and what would you say (or ask)? God and Jesus do NOT count.
