kydj68 0 Posted August 28, 2008 New to this and was wondering where would you use the clear vinyl i see you can buy?
BannerJohn 1,324 Posted August 28, 2008 I use it to cover my shipping labels with. Tape that wide is expensive. But you can use it to over-lay printed graphics.
kydj68 0 Posted August 28, 2008 so like can you print something on the vinyl using your printer and then lay that over it like a laminate type of thing?
stormy 5 Posted August 28, 2008 You can do that. I've also used it as an overlaminate for plain vinyl. Small lettering, floor decals, etc.
darkdan 3 Posted August 28, 2008 If you're printing on vinyl (like a real printer and not your laptop's printer right?) they have actual overlaminates for that purpose to prolong the life of digital prints.
kydj68 0 Posted August 28, 2008 yea i'm talking about using a reg. Lexmark printer on my PC. Now with using this (if i can) do I need a special ink? And the laminate you are talking about what is it called so i can order?
darkdan 3 Posted August 28, 2008 (if i can) No you can't. Sub it out to someone with a printer designed for this.
duke 12 Posted August 29, 2008 a lexmark printer is dye based ink. i would reccomend a printer with pigment ink, like epson c120 for about $70. pigment ink doesn't fade as much as dye based ink, though they are both water based. regards duke
DDunning 0 Posted September 6, 2008 honestly never heard of using a desktop printer for sign use. I use a roland versa camm, wouldn't use anything but.
stormy 5 Posted September 6, 2008 For most of us on here who can't afford a versa camm, it gets the job done. small runs, under 8 1/2 by 11. And ya gotta be careful not to smudge. but it will work.
