fadingfastsd 0 Posted July 1, 2008 Hey guys, Brand new to the forum, and vinyl cutters in general. I basically have no idea what I'm doing! I just ordered the COPAM 2500 vinyl cutter to cut stickers for alot of the websites I run. I ordered two rolls of the USCutterDirect BGS Sign vinyl, as that was all I saw on the site. I just realized that I have no clue if this is what you use for stickers? Does this have the adhesive on the back and the backing paper to make stickers? If not, what do I do with this type of vinyl, and where do I get sticker vinyl? Thanks guys! Evan
fadingfastsd 0 Posted July 1, 2008 Also, any tips or hints on getting started with this cutter? This is my first one!
routesmith 0 Posted July 1, 2008 Hi Evan, Welcome to the board. you can certainly use any type of vinyl for sticker vinyl, although I am not familiar with that particular vinyl Im sure it will be fine. Wayne
routesmith 0 Posted July 1, 2008 as far as tips go. Make sure you know the difference between a VECTOR Image and a Raster Image: You cant cut a raster image but you can cut a vector image. you may convert raster images to vector using Adobe Illustrator or the free version which is here called Inkscape http://www.inkscape.org/ thre are some good vinyls on ebay for relatively cheap, also check out the vinyl section on this board for access to FREE vinyl. Not quite sure what else, but practice, practice, and more practice.. maybe buy some wide paper so you dont waste too much vinyl, I always have at least a roll kicking around to test on with the pen tip. fadingfastsd 0 Posted July 1, 2008 Hey Wayne, Thanks alot for the tips. So this may still be a stupid question, but does this vinyl come with the adhesive backing so it can be a sticker? Does it all come like that? What about the backing material that covers the sticky side? Sorry I'm just learning this stuff! Thanks
kenimes 42 Posted July 1, 2008 The BGS vinyl we offer is rated 3-year outdoor and 7-year indoor use, and it is self adhesive vinyl for wall words, banners, storefront sinage, vehical decals, etc.- but not for heat pressing to garments.
fadingfastsd 0 Posted July 1, 2008 Perfect that was what I needed to know. Thanks for the help. Is there a good reference anywhere for learning about how to do this stuff? I'm starting from the very beginning...
fadingfastsd 0 Posted July 1, 2008 Another question.. Should I have ordered the application tape with my vinyl? Is that the material that kind of looks like masking tape that you put over the non-sticky side after its cut?

I'm starting from the very beginning... Look in the instructional contribution section for videos on cutting, weeding, applying the transfer tape, and applying it to your substrate. Is that the material that kind of looks like masking tape that you put over the non-sticky side after its cut? You will need it at some point when you go to apply the vinyl to your substrate. Yes, that is exactly what it is for.
