Marine vinyl?

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of boats and sea doo's I need to do coming up in a couple weeks and was wondering what kind of vinyl or tricks I need to know so that dont end

up falling off because of being in the water. Is there a  way to seal the vinyl?

Thanks for the help.

Maybe some of the pro's can chime in... but in the meantime, I'd suggest:

Use a good cast vinyl, such as Oracal 851

Make sure you clean the surface area REALLY good

Try using a "Sealitpen"... sold at most vinyl supply companies.

I'm about to do my first boat as well... I'm a little nervious, lol.

I was wondering because I'm doing peoples MC numbers, and one of them they want me to use the brush chrome I ordered to do a shield for them. That's the orcal 352 line. only 2 year out door.  I just dont want it to peel off on him.

I know but that's what he wants. Will have to just seal with the pen.  I wonder if I had some tranparnet it I could cover all of it with a box to help seal it?

The transparent is a good idea but I wouldn't do a box, I would make a bigger outline of the object so there is a small edge of transparent visible rather than a box. If you know what I mean.

I have found it to be no different than auto graphics, it still gets wet like an auto. Just use a premium grade vinyl, yes it does get bumped a bit more at docks.

I emailed Oracal today and asked them what to use this was the reply

There is nothing "Marine" specific, many of our materials will work for

this application. I would assume the name is intended to stay for as

long as possible ( not short term ) so I would suggest any of the 851

series. I would avoid the metallic's only because of the high amount of

sun exposure that is compounded by the reflection from the water. If you

have any further questions or issues please feel free to contact me

anytime.

Thank You

Just as a customer service to him, I would advise him once again. That way if/when it starts peeling there is not warranty asks. I'd even go as far as printing something on the invoice as well.

I would but I told him and he is a good friend, Has agreed if it comes off will pay to have it done with a longer lasting vinyl.
