Which Adobe Illustrator CS2, CS3.........it good for starter decal maker

I am wanting to buy Adobe Illustrator for my next program to enhance my decal making, I have been using Sign Blazer in the trial mode to learn and now I need something more advanced. I would appreciate any help. Also, the Gerber Tempo 600 comes with the Omega software, will I need the Adobe Illy or will the Omega software allow me to design and cut? HELP!
