cutting other materials and needing help weeding

I am trying to cut paper with my LaserPoint and needing to figure out how to weed it. I tried to cut something and it just cut through the picture. I am sure it is jsut how to set the weeding but I don't understand the weeding settings. I also have a need to cut the plastic for stencils. Does anyone have experience with cutting paper and other materials? What settings do I need to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
