A.I. CS5/Signcut export plug-in issue

Recommended Posts

I just upgraded to CS5 and downloaded the "SignCut_CS5.api" file to export from AI to SignCut (I'm running x2, if it matters). I have the file set up like this:

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5.1\Plug-ins\Extensions\SignCut_CS5.api"

It shows up in my "File" tab and as option Shift+Control+1. However, whenever I select either option it takes me to a "Save As" window and will not export. Is this because x2 and CS5 are not compatible? Or do I have the .api file in the wrong folder? I also tried it in the "Illustrator Formats" folder but got the same result. Thank you in advance for any advice!

Did you download the CS5 plug in for Signcut here? My Norton says this file was released about a week ago. I guess if you have problems contact Signcut support.

http://www.signcutpr...ion=PC&scv=1.10

It looks like you need to upgrade to Signcut Pro which is a FREE upgrade.

From Signcut site.

The new version, SignCut Productivity Pro, is better adapted for newer operating systems, such as Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Mac OS X. It's even better adapted for newer layout-softwares, such as Illustrator, CorelDraw and InkScape. And whilst we're at it, why not make it better adapted for new plotters? Already done.

If you already have a SignCut-X2 license, you may upgrade it to a SignCut Productivity Pro license free of charge. To do so, please login to the customer account on this website, and there you will find the Migration Tool. Use this to upgrade your license, your previous license will be removed and a new one will be created for you. This means, your remaining subscription time will still be there on your new license - it's just a new number. :)

Hello.

This is Therese from Whisqu Graphic AB. The company behind SignCut.

The pluggin available are for SignCut Pro. The user agreement for SignCut x2 says that when a newer version of SignCut is released, then we only maintain the old version with pluggins and updates during a transitional period of 2 years.

We recommend that you upgrade to SignCut Pro.

As the previous speaker said, is the upgrade for free. Follow the steps below to migrate your license.

What you should do is to go to www.sc-x2.com.

There click on "customer login" and then login.

Your login information is:

User Name: your registered email address

Password: your license number

After That You Will see a frame Where it says "Migration to SignCut Productivity Pro".

Do that and After That You should have a working Pro license.

Thank you both for your help!

I have upgraded from x2 to Pro and downloaded the exe file from the link provided by Skeeter.

However, when I open the file I get the "Open File" window with the "Run" button. Upon clicking "Run" I get another, smaller window that prompts "Unable to find Adobe Illustrator CS5 Installation". I tried it with the installation disc in the drive but that did nothing.

Thank you again for your help and if you have any more advice that would be great!!

are you exporting the file from Illustrator to Signcut? The Plugin is an EXPORT plugin. Seems like in Illustrator you should be clicking FILE>send to Signcut. That is what plug ins do. Send it to the cutting software. That is how the Plugin works for Cutting Master for my Graphtec,

Skeeter, going from Illustrator to Signcut is exactly what I'm trying to do. I don't have the "FILE> sent to SignCut" option though. That's what I'm trying to solve. EDIT; FOUND A FIX ON GOOGLE... PRO'S PLUGIN WAS NOT PLACED CORRECTLY, GOT IT WORKING!

Another problem that has just come up from switching from x2 to Pro; My eps files do not recognize the new program as an application that works for cutting. I have to manually open the program then "FILE>Open>" and manually select. I can't just click on the eps files anymore.

You do that with any saved file in other cuttting programs. File> Import/or open select you file from where ever you saved them.. open. then it's in your cutting software.

With x2 all I had to do was click on an eps file and it would automatically open up in SignCut, just like an mp3 uses iTunes or Media Player. I only used Illustrator if I needed to design or mod something. Now when I click on an eps file it goes to a "Open With" window box and SignCut isn't even listed as a useable application. If you click the browse button you can usually set a default program but it won't even let SignCut open up this way. Oh well, quite an inconvenience but I'll deal with it.

Thanks for all your (and Therese) help, it's most appreciated!

your welcome. I've never owned an MP3, so I have no idea, But I know what your talking about, I can double click my jpeg photos and they go to an editing program. If i click my .ai files they go to Illustrator and open.

Hello.

First for the problem with opening of your eps-files. You should rightclick on one of them and choose open with (i think it is what's it called in english) and then choose defaultprogram. After that a dialouge box will open. There you choose the program you want it to be opened with. After this, all the eps-files will open with that program.

And for SignCut. The pluggin that is avalible on our website at the moment isn't for Cs5, it's for older versions. You should follow the link i sent you from the beginning. This pluggin works without any problem as long as you have installed Signcut and Adobe Illustratio under your c:-drive. If you follow the instruction and download the link in the comments then it will work. I have helped many customers over our livechat and it works for all of them after they have done it. So I recommend you again to do that if it still isn't working. This will give you an option in your filemenu that says " send to signcut".
