USCutter 14" Vinyl Cutter (MH365) vs Quickutz Silhouette SD

Recommended Posts

Which one would you get for craft type work, both vinyl and paper.

Here are some of the specs.

USCutter 14" Vinyl Cutter (MH365) ==>10.75" cut

Quickutz Silhouette SD===========>8" cut

USCutter 14" Vinyl Cutter (MH365) ==>uses Roland compatible blades

Quickutz Silhouette SD===========>special blades

USCutter 14" Vinyl Cutter (MH365) ==>cuttng force 50-500grams

Quickutz Silhouette SD===========>max cutting force  230 gf

USCutter 14" Vinyl Cutter (MH365) ==>SignBlazer Elements USCutter Edition

Quickutz Silhouette SD===========>Cutting Master 2 for Silhouette is a plug-in for Adobe Illustrator  (I use adobe Illustrator)

USCutter 14" Vinyl Cutter (MH365) ==>cuttng force 50-500grams

Quickutz Silhouette SD===========>max cutting force  230 gf

Which specs are really important?

Is 230gf enough?

Is either one better at detailed work?

Is the ability to cut right from Adobe Illustrator a big deal? Can't I just import a Adobe Illustrator created item to Signblazer?

I expect to average one sign a week or so.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

the bigger cutting area alone would sell me on the refine. The blade thing is another good reason. With those specs, I wouldn't even consider the other one.

You can still do your design in Illustrator, import to SB for cutting.

Depends on what you're using the cutter for.

The Sihouette is made by Graphtec (same machine as the Craft Robo) so it may be a better built machine, but I don't know if it is as well built as their pro machines.

It is truely a craft cutter. It doesn't offer flexibility in adjusting blade pressue, only offers 3 different caps to simulate the various cut pressures for 3 different thickness of material to be cut. If you're using it solely for scrapbooking and don't need the additional width, it's not a bad idea, esp since it doesn't offer automatic registration for contour cutter, while the Refine doesn't.

Which one did you buy? I bought the Silhouette without doing much research. Now I find out that it will only cut 3ml thick. I want to cut stencils for painting wood signs. The Mylar will be 5ml thick.

I'm now looking at the MH365 and wondered how it did for you if you bought it.
