help with combining fonts in ia

How do I take two fonts and placed on top of each other and combine them as one object?

I am trying to take Y and W placed on top of each other now I need to combine them into one object for cutting.

I know I am not explaining it correctly so please see attachment.

maybe try  EFFECTS>  pathfinder> merge.

If you are cutting it,  try using weld in your cutting software.

I use Flexi Starter for Mac and don't think there is a Weld option in this version. I have been using convert to outlines and that seems to give me the effect I need.

I have Flexistarter 8.5 and 8.6 and yes there is a weld feature, you have to open your cut/plot screen, at the top are tabs, look under ADVANCED,  THE LAST TAB TO RIGHT  ,  mine has auto weld

hehe Haven't been on that tab in awhile forgot that was there, auto weld was allready checked.

everything is cutting correctly .
