MH 871 I need Help

Recommended Posts

I just bought this cutter and tried setting it up.  I followed the instructions as instructed and cannot figure out why the computer and the cutter will not communicate through flexi 8.5.  I don't know if I did something wrong in the set up but I have tried uninstalling it reinstalling it and that doesn't work either.

Even though you are using a USB connection the cutter shows up to the computer as a USB Serial Port.  Find that in your system and change your port in production manager to match the cutter and things should work nicely.

So I set it up on my Vista laptop through usb.  I think I got the printer to load cause it shows up in my device manager.  When I am trying to send a job to it through production manager it says "port cannot open".

When you open your device manager, what port does it show your cable is on?  Plug your cable in, unplug it.  You have to match that port # with the port# in Flexi production manager,,

I matched the ports so that the MH871 set in the production manager is com1 which is what my device manager said it was connected to.  I am not sure if the USB driver was installed properly.  But when I plug in the cutter through USB a usb converter thing comes in on the device manager so idk.

So I downloaded the driver from the support page and I get a pop up that is black with white letterind.  It says installing but is only open for a few seconds then closes.  What does that mean.

You will want to open your windows device manager with the cutter connected to the computer.

Look for the word ports.  Click the + to the left of the word ports.  Find the USB Serial and note the COM#.

That number is what you want to tell your flexi to use for your cutter.

If you're using USB I highly doubt that it installed as COM1.  It's likely to be COM3 or COM4 as windows tends to reserve COM1 and COM2 for motherboard serial ports.  (even if they don't exist).

Let me know if this helps!
