34" refine (grey and purple) vinyl cutter woes. feeding vinyl casues freeze

I have the 34"version , it was bought new from uscutters back in oct. I used it for a couple months just fine, usb port, windows xp, corel4.  The cutter hasn't been used since november but now when I try to just feed some vinyl through the cutter (while not even connected to my computer), it stops a little bit down the roll and then starts humming. To unfreeze it I need to hit reset or  turn the power on and off.   

Second problem is my computer won't recognize the cutter. Infact if I have the cutter plugged into my usb it freezes my mouse/system. As soon as the usb is unplugged my computer and mouse works fine. I haven't made any changes to my system  from when it was working to now but I'm thinking that reinstalling the software/driver system will probably solve this.

Sounds like a motherboard issue to me. Open the unit to investigate.
