N-Speed_Graphics 0 Posted December 11, 2008 I am Having a couple of problems with my ctn630. I put in a new blade and a new cutter strip that i got from you guys and now the machine is not cutting right. I have the blade just barley sticking out and pressure was origanally at 130 so i kept droping the pressure and it doesn't get any better. What is happining is when I go to cut something I start the cutter at left and when it starts it goes across and at spots it barely touches the vinyl. then when it comes back across the cutter from the right to the left it is cutting all the way through the vinyl and the backing. I have cleaned everything up very well and i do keep it maintained but it just ain't right. I have had the cutter for almost one year now and never had a lick of trouble with it till i replaced the strip and put a new blade in it. is it possible that the cutting strips could be bad or molded wrong. i bought two of them from you and they both do the same thing. i just threw one of them away because the tore it all up. I have a bunch of pojects to do and I can't do them because of the cutter not working right. PLEASE HELP
kenimes 42 Posted December 11, 2008 Make sure the cutting strip is seated completely. Instead of dropping the pressure, raise the pressure and retract the blade.
N-Speed_Graphics 0 Posted December 13, 2008 I did all of that and it is still doing it when i look at the plotter pen when i have it in i notice that the strip at the right side of the machine seems to be lower then the rest. so i take and try and reseat the strip on the rest of the machine and is still doing it. i ws talking to a buddy of mine and he had the same problem with his roland and he could not get the new cuting strips to seat in the track so he used epoxy and filled his groove in and made sure it was perfectly flush and level and then he puts his regular strip on top of the epoxy with a removeable adhesive. i was wandering if this would work. and what would the epoxy do to the blades without the strip. also what is the best way to put the strips in and what can i use to push them i with to make sure they are seated. kenimes 42 Posted December 14, 2008 Maybe remove the strip completely, then check the results.
N-Speed_Graphics 0 Posted December 15, 2008 I removed the cutting strip completly and I am still getting the same results. right side of the machine about 8 inches from the right is still not cutting the vinyl all the way through and the rest of the machine is perfect. could the chassis of the cutter be twisted at all. the machine has never been moved from the table it is on but the table did start to sag on the right side a little. would i be able to straighten the chassis at all and if not do you guys sell the chassis or do i have to buy a new cutter. kenimes 42 Posted December 15, 2008 Do you have a caliper to check the distance between cutting strip area and carriage rail? There is a slight chance it could be warped. How far out is your blade sticking from the blade holder? Do you have to squint to see just the tip sticking out? What is your pressure set to?
N-Speed_Graphics 0 Posted December 16, 2008 Yes I do have a caliper and i will check it. as for the blade sticking out i have to hold it under a lens to see sticking out and my pressure is set at 160.
N-Speed_Graphics 0 Posted December 16, 2008 it looks like there is a .48mm diff from the left to the right
kenimes 42 Posted December 16, 2008 Well, that might explain things.... Hmmm, is the uit still under warranty?
N-Speed_Graphics 0 Posted December 16, 2008 I don't think it is. I am going to look at it and try to pull the carriage rail off and try to make it straight again thanks for all the help. I love the info i have been getting off of this forum. Nick

I have talked to one customer who had the same issue, and he took it to a machine shop to have them hydrolically re-align the carriage rail.

kenimes 42 Posted December 19, 2008 We do not, but might be able to pull one off of a dead unit that is beyond repair...

kenimes 42 Posted December 23, 2008 Will check in to it. Maybe send me a PM after the X-mas break, and I should have more time then to try to get you one. Still playing catch up from last week due to a winter storm- that dumped record snowfall in Seattle. I was one of the few to make it in, so needless to say, I am kind of backed up. :-
