Has anyone ever tried spraying clear coat over vinyl lettering? The wife did a little project with our grand daughter for her Mom's Christmas gift. I'm thinking I should be able to spray clear coat over the vinyl to make sure it does not separate off of it's wooden surface. The wood has been prepped properly, and she applied the vinyl wording. Just want to put a coat or 2 of the clear coat to ensure they stay in place permanently. Thoughts, suggestions?? Thank you in advance for the assistance.

It actually worked quit well. No issues I seen with the corners peeling or pulling up at all either.

Updated my system a few weeks ago. Everything still works just fine. No issues with my GIMP Program, Inkscape, or SCALP3. LPII works fine as well.

Layering with Parchment Paper

So I finally got figured out how to use the shapes is SCALP3 as registration marks. It's a bit tough at first, but if I can teach myself how to use Gimp, I should get this figured out too. Anyways, I successfully was able to apply a 2 layer vinyl using this method. Shout Out to Wildgoose on this video, works great man! Thank you again for sharing! -
I'll have to check out that gotprint.com, I use Zoo Printing, and have had very little problems.

Here is the clear coat. I think it will work. Going to test spray it on something else.

I'll post a picture of it later when I get home.

Just out of curiosity, did you ever find the silhouette of the Camaro? I've been looking for one as well. A friend of the family lost his battle with cancer last year, and his wife is looking for a memorial sticker. I'm currently working with her now since I have a machine now, and the other two companies she's dealt with are blowing her off. So if you found one that I could possibly have or even buy, please PM me. Thanks

So I searched, and did not see a real thread on where to buy vinyl, other than US Cutter. I know Sign Warehouse is a place people use, I was just curious what other suppliers are out there? I've been searching the interwebz all morning long, and have came across several, but I'm very hesitant to try some of these other "discount" places. I'm searching Ebay and Amazon as well.

Thanks everyone. I guess it's not bad for the first time trying. My logo is multiple layers of colors, so I'll be doing more test on it.

I haven't really looked all that hard for local distribution. Mostly because I work most days of the week, so I do not have time to travel. Online will be the way I have to go for a short while. Once I get busy enough to justify quitting my second job I'll look more closely for local distributors.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I read a few of the first pages, and will read the rest later tonight when I get home from work. Working for a large manufacturer I'm aware of copy right laws. My personal business model will be custom decals for cars and trucks, as at some point I hope to actually wrap vehicles. These are all baby steps into moving to my long term goal!

Located here in N.E. Ohio. I have a few friends who work for Avery, and they are looking to see if I can buy from the factory, and if not, who locally I can buy some of their products from. I must say, my first time buying from USCutter was great overall. The only thing I didn't get was a color sample book. I'd like to have that when I start quoting larger jobs.

Nope these are my personal boards. Just needed a test canvas.

I apologize about that. Really all I'm looking for is other places members have found Avery or Oracal vinyls. Since most if not all members here seem to think they are the best brands offered. I am ordering a few common color rolls from US Cutter today. The Green Star that came with my start up set is questionable to me. Sorry if this topic is a bit vague. Thank you Sue2, I'm learning this real quickly! I'm glad to have today off from my other 2 jobs to research what I need to focus on to grow my hobby into more than that!

Awesome stuff man! This is what I hope to get into here in my area. There are not many if any at all that do this sort of stuff. So starting out small with window decals and what not. I'm diggin' that carbon fiber look too! Just bought a roll myself.
-
Of course they do, and as they should. But it doesn't hurt to ask where other people found vinyls right?

Whatever happened to K.I.S.S.? Good job making the best out of that situation!

Is this transfer tape a good all around tape to use? Like can it be used for indoor and outdoor use? I'm not a big fan of the transfer tape I received with my cutter start up kit.

What's your prefered software and why?
JLS Design replied to Corndog's topic in Other Software Programs
I use GIMP for creating images, self taught myself on that. I have Inkscape I'm trying to learn when I have time. For cutting I use the SCALP3. Only because It's what came with my cutter bundle. However, I'm interested in learning more about the Sign Cut Pro program. Is it more user friendly than the SCALP3? -

I do have Incscape installed, just haven't had much time to learn how to use it well. I started with Gimp a few years ago, that's why I'm still using it. I actually thought about subscribing to Creative Studio, just haven't took the plunge. Is Inkscape more user friendly for decal work? -

Very cool, and thank you for sharing. I do have one question, the registration marks. Do you create those in the cutting program, or in a separate art program (like PS or in my case GIMP). -
Yeah I've already had a few people ask me if I'll be able to do carbon fiber, and chromoly vinyl. So I'll be looking here in the forum, and trying to do some research on what works the best. Anyone here ever done anything with reflective vinyl? Once I'm satisfied with how to use the cutter, I'm going to take on my first real big job, and that's a outdoor sign for my buddies Dyno and Performance shop. He doesn't have a light up sign, so I was thinking reflective vinyl that cars will see well at night.

Just as the Topic says, what is your preferd vinyl, and why? I just recently received my Laserpoint II cutter, and the sample rolls I got are greenstar. I'm just curious what all everyone has tried, and prefers over the other. It seems to me the stuff I have is a bit "greasy", for lack of better terms, on the backing paper. Last night I made my 2nd cuts, and had a hard time keeping some of the vinyl in place. I think I may need to increas the presure of the cutter too a bit, as I was not able to weed some text. Thoughts?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I'm learning rather quickly what to keep an eye out for!
