Slide show of the American Made sign prep and cut

That turned out great. -
I just messaged CraftEdge to ask what the issue could be, but I will ask here as well, since there is a WEALTH of knowledge here. I've been having issues with my cutter lately, and I've finally had some time to look into the situation. After updating to SCALP 4, I went through, and selected my cutter options (or so I thought) to my cutter, to Laser Point 2 (budget cutter I know). Today while investigating the issue (not jogging forward when finished with the cut) I noticed my cutter was set to another option! It was set to some random cutting machine. While the program still cut with my actual cutter, obviously the option to move forward after the cut did not work. So, first things first, check to see if I have the most up to date version of SCALP 4, check, I have the most up to date version. Ok, so lets turn off the cutter, close the program, and restart. I do this, and proceed with starting the program, and turning on the cutter. Select my cutter option, and try to proceed to test cut. Nothing, instead I get a message stating the program cannot connect to the cutter and to try this solution. The solution was to shut down the cutter, disconnect the USB from the PC, wait 10 seconds, reconnect everything, and start over. I do this, and still no worky... I check to make sure I have current drivers, and restart everything again... Again, not able to choose my actual cutter. The program works with me choosing the Laser Point 1, which hopefully will keep working so I can finish the job I'm currently working on, but I feel that whatever the differences in the cutters are, will come to bite me in the rear. Has anyone experienced this, and if so, what would be the solution to correct it? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yep did that. I remembered from your last post you shared.

So I did a quick search here, to see what everyone charges for their work. I read through a couple of post, but never really got what I was looking for. Obviously, there is material cost ( I got that part down thanks to a calculator someone posted on here), labor cost, overhead (which I suppose you could tie into labor cost) and if applicable, installation cost. All I'm looking for here is what is one charging for their work? Obviously pricing will vary based on your area, but I'm curious as I'm beginning to get busier and busier I want to ensure my pricing is about what a "norm" would be. I'm considering charging about $5 to $10 per hour for my time (including overhead) from start to finish. I recently did 54 total pieces of a two layer decal. Between the weeding, and assembly, this took me close to 5 hours total. Being this is a friend of mine, I charged him a little over material cost. This got me thinking, as I'm spending this time, I'm not doing any of my other jobs I have lined up. Really got me thinking (and reading the forum here) about getting ALL my costs in order. I will be putting together an Excel spread sheet sometime soon to help with costing jobs, so I can quote that much quicker, but wanted some feedback from those who have done this a lot longer than I. This will be my 2nd summer with the cutter, and intend to get out there a bit more. I'm still a ways off from much larger jobs where I need to worry about installation so I'm not so concerned with that yet. Thanks in advance for your help everyone.

Sure Cuts A lot 4 and 4 pro update (4.062)
JLS Design replied to Primal Decals's topic in Sure Cuts A Lot Pro
I was hoping it fix it, as I designed another decal and had the same issue. But it's all good now, and I can proceed as planned. Thanks again @Primal Decals for posting this information again! -

Looks like I'm updating later. Thanks Primal. I sorta hope this fixes my weeding issues... LOL -
That's awesome. I should have you make me one or two for my business when I'm out selling decals at craft shows and what not. Good job man!

Good to know. I may need to take a peek!

So I'm trying to weed some lines on a vector image that was saved as a SVG file. When I add my weeding lines, this is what I get. I cannot get this image to weed correctly at all! Any suggestions?

Thanks PD. I'll take a quick view later tonight. Working the 9 to 5 now, LOL. I'll also post in here what Craft Edge says, as I posted the same thing there. They are WAY slower at answering over there, and all post have to be approved by a moderator!?! Crazy.

I thought it strange too. I did share the same issue at the Craft Edge forum as well. Been busy all weekend so and haven't had a chance to see what the said. I did just place manual lines where I needed them. The odd part was if I move the lines a 1/8" it would either weed out the lettering, or do what it is supposed to do. The Eagle head is supposed to be open, I was more concerned/frustrated with the lettering. I should've been more specific in my post I suppose. Manual lines were done, so the customer could pick up the decal! I thought this too, except it was one solid vector image. Nothing separated, no layers to move even. I tried several things to get it to weed correctly, and nothing worked. I added the lines manually, and like I mentioned above, if I moved it a 1/8" or so, the weed line would go through the letter, and not around the letter. I honestly think it may be a bug issue. I'll shoot you the file, and take a look on yours, and let me know what you think..

Does anyone put their logo on signs or vehicles?
JLS Design replied to mark-s's topic in Off Topic Section
I will if I'm asked. That's the reason I made smaller decals of my logo, or window pillar decals. -
If you're going to re-purpose a closet like that, I'd run 2x6 across the back and sides and use a good piece of ply wood for the top. This way it will be "floating" and you could have space below and above for storage. Perhaps even box in the center of the new table and get a piece of lexan to build a light box in side it as well.

I second this. They may not have all the options that other sites might have, but they do have a good selection.

Blade not moving up and down is not touching vinyl. HELP!!!!!!
JLS Design replied to Lisamckt's topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Discussion
I have a LaserPoint2 cutter as well. I can tell you now that 110g will give you a head ache when you want to weed out the cut. Mine is set at 230g right now, and it weeds like a dream. The ONLY issue I have is sometimes the vinyl does not want to come off the carrier paper when transferring to the surface. So, I'm going to back off the pressure a bit, and try 215g and see if that improve's my dilemma there. I'm not sure how much of the forum you have read, but I read a thread someplace that said all vinyls are not the same. They're not kidding there! You may need to adjust your blade depth a bit when switching from colors, or suppliers. -

issue importing AI file with Text into SCALP3
JLS Design replied to mwardncsu's topic in Sure Cuts A Lot Pro
I read someplace here that you can message the makers of SCALP and they may upgrade for free, since you just got your cutter. OR worse case scenario you would have to pay the $50 to upgrade to v4. Worth it IMO. I'm still learning how to use AI myself, but there is something you're supposed to do with the text, make it a path or something like that prior to exporting. I've been hearing really good things about VMP, and considering to make the jump end of the year or sooner if I have a good summer season. -

I'd be interested in this as well. -
It's worth the $49.99 to upgrade from SCALP3 to SCALP4. You should look into that greevedogg.
