    Remove Decals From Paint Job

A trigger fire propane torch worked the best for us..as usual do not let it stay in one spot. Wave it back and forth. Lift an edge, and try pulling almost straight up GENTLY on the vinyl....leaves less or no residue. Goof-Off is too strong for some paint jobs. Enamel reducer works great. When you think all residue is gone rub your hand over the existing area, it usually shows up any glue that's left. A stripper wheel can burn paint, especially on whites and metallic. A polishing , not rubbing compound will clean and shine the paint. NO RAZOR BLADES!!!! Let your thumbnail be a little longer, or use a Chisler tool, available from most supply houses. XXXXRAZOR BLADES !

    fridays project

We used 24" vinyl, and you end up with scrap. Keeping it in a useable state was a problem until one day I was walking thru Lowe's plumbing dept. and saw 4" pvc tubing. I made a box with casters, that will hold 24 of the 22" tall pvc tubes I cut on my mitre box. They stand on edge for the loosely rolled scrap. No waste of scrap. The wall thickness of the pvc is 1/4 inch, which allows a thin strip of vinyl to be stuck on the top edge for easy reference. Some smaller scraps will end up lower in the tube.

    Cleaning substrate (vehicle body)

We use In a quart sprayer, 16 oz. water, 16 oz. denatured alcohol, 2 drops liquid detergent. Works great, cleans great. The finger test is a must. Drag your finger across the vehicle, or whatever you're applying on. Squeeky clean is a must !

    Wet Install question

As a vinyl graphics company for 24 years, we never use wet application on glass or banners. It takes too long to pull the application tape. We tape the graphic in place with 2 verticle pieces of good masking tape, measure from a level point, then tape along the top edge, 1/2 on the glass or banner to make a hinge . Usually, you can take scissors, or carefully use a cut off knife from the bottom up to the tape to end up with smaller areas to squeegee. Your graphic is locked in place with the hinge tape. Lift the bottom the graphic away from the project far enough to be able to pull the backing paper down. Hold the bottom edge about 3" away from the project, then start at the top and squeegee down evenly along the hinge tape to the bottom. Do not lay the whole grapic down at 1 time! Let the squeegee do the work! Move on to the next section and repeat. Easy peasy...There is no reason to have to slide graphics around to install. Good even pressure on a good ( GOLD 3-M ) is the answer. Cheap squeeges of any other color will cup from using them on pre-mask. The 2 ridges on squeeges can be used to straighten the edge on a worn one. For fun, if you have anything but gold ones, stand one on edge on s straight edge to see if the whole length touches. If not, you're putting bubbles under the vinyl.

    Un Retired

Hello, My name is Dave, I retired from my graphics business that I started in 1988, and ran until 2012. Vehicle graphics, windows, wall art, signs was our fun business. My plotter and supplies are in the shipping stream now. I have spent thousands of dollars on equipment over the years. I winter in southwest Florida, where I found a great job at a golf cart sales and service company. Last year, they bought an entry level plotter from US Cutter. I set it up and made names and graphics to customize golf carts. After using the plotter that only uses 9" of vinyl. Since it has worked flawlessly, I bought my own 25" with pro software. from US Cutter. Very reasonable.... I plan to do small side jobs at a price that doesn't muddy the water for companies. I used to hate companies that didn't know how to price good work. "Net profit is not a dirty word "
