Pretty much all I do is layered decals for vehicles. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to send me a PM!

My wife gets 28-30 in her Cavalier and I get 13-14 in my F-150. Truck has more room so it always goes on road trips and even just to get around town. Cant wait to see how much I lose with the new lift installed and my upgrade to 35's later this year

Love the red one! You should look into wrapping the white one. I wrapped a faux Raptor this past weekend...cost about $600 for all the material and 2 days worth of work.
-
So who all on here does full car wraps? I have been asked to do a wrap for a full size pickup truck and was wondering the best method of estimating material without having too much leftover OR (worst case scenario) not enough to finish the job. The customer wants it done in Avery SW900 Matte "Night Blue Metallic" with some matte black accents...so getting the material isn't a problem. Since it's a solid color should I just measure surface area of the quarter panels, hood, roof, tailgate, doors to get what I need? I won't be installing this for about a month or so but need to get a quote on material relatively soon.

go into the type on a path options and you can make it on, above, or below the line

Well did the wrap this weekend. He chose Avery Night Blue Metallic (matte) for the wrap along with matte black and gray graphics to represent his company on the rear. Ran into a few minor complications but all in all was a success for being my first entire wrap. He was extremely happy with the outcome and granted it took 18 hrs I look forward to doing some more.

Draw a circle and then use your "type on a path" tool Once you do that you can manipulate by going to "Type" and "Type on a path options"

You probably had issues with it sticking since it was a wet install on glass. I have done several large installs on glass and each time I tried a wet install I got the same results. I found it helpful to leave it for about 10 minutes after you install and let it dry a bit before attempting to pull off the tape. If it still tries to come up put it in the sun (if its on a vehicle and can be moved) or grab a heat gun to evaporate the solution as much as possible.

I agree with KYSIGN. I mostly do vehicle graphics and don't use anything but Oracal 751 and 951 unless i'm using specialty colors. I actually got started into vinyl work the same way you did...a couple of 4x4 stickers for mine and my friends trucks and the rest is history!

Tips on bulk ordering color die-cut decals?
Moody Blue replied to Joe Link's topic in General discussion
I'd call it a two color decal and you may be in luck that's what most members on here do for a living... now let the bidding war begin -
Did these for mine and my wife's first anniversary. Took the vinyl swatches to Lowe's and they mixed up some matching colors that we used to paint the sides and border with. Only thing I'm not happy with is that I can't find any teal bags to match so just settled for green. Oh well maybe some will come along in the future.

Very cool thanks will be purchasing some matching bags now

Thanks everybody! We actually got the boards as a wedding gift last year and were so indecisive regarding the design that we could never agree on what to do lol so left them unfinished. We each picked out a color from my vinyl rolls and had the paint mixed and then started the with the stain and paint 2 weeks ago. Finally worked up an idea that we both liked and cut and applied the vinyl yesterday afternoon. Just a few more coats of clear and they are ready for debut this coming weekend for some Labor Day shenanigans.

Software Question For Design Adobe Illistrator Or Correll Draw
Moody Blue replied to Capt'n Morgan's topic in Pre-sale questions
They will still be offering the CS6 versions of all their software...which is what most people will be interested in. I was paying up to $1,000 a year to keep updated with everything to do my job so I see $600 as a relief. The joy of the CC is you wont have to pay for new software each year when it's released, just let it update as necessary. If you use the cloud and decide that its not a good fit you can cancel anytime and still keep the files since they are not actually stored in Adobe's "cloud". Once you cancel you still have 30 days of software use until you decide to go back to what you were using or invest in something new...enough time to convert everything to .eps or interchangeable file. -
Software Question For Design Adobe Illistrator Or Correll Draw
Moody Blue replied to Capt'n Morgan's topic in Pre-sale questions
I recommend using Adobe products whenever available. I am a little biased since im a full time graphic designer...but if you have the need (or want) for Photoshop, Indesign, or other Adobe programs look into the new CC version and you can have everything Adobe makes (30+ programs each valued over $200) for monthly fee of $50. Yes it costs more in the long run don't want to start a debate on it but again only if you have the need for that...plus cool features like Behance/prosite portfolio, Typekit fonts, Kuler, free web hosting all included with a CC membership...and its backed by Adobe's award winning support. Another cool thing is you will get access to any Adobe event free of charge. That could be e-learning sessions, local classes, trade shows, anything Adobe sponsors. I go to a few of these each year and learn about new features, software, and future products to help stay up to date in the design world. -
Most of what I do are vehicle graphics...I cut chrome, wraps, and Oracle 751 (and up) with my cheap 24" Procut. Just gotta play with knife pressure for each material.

Mailing DIY Iron on Decals
Moody Blue replied to sonshinestudios's topic in T-Shirts and/ or Garments
I used an Iron before and worked fine...really gotta concentrate heat and pressure though so you will want these to be fairly small to be covered by the iron. I would just use wax paper or something for the back. -
What a day! Hope the install goes well

Find a special niche that nobody else around you is doing. Something you are passionate about. I love trucks and 4x4's in general so my niche was reaching out to other truck guys through forums and social media. It put me in a position with several car clubs and now the "go to guy" for any of their vinyl needs. Be weary of the "old school" advertising too...phone book...news paper...people don't read that shit anymore. Too many people rely way too much on what's happening on social media...get on there and be the "happening". I created a FB page and linked it to instagram to post customer photos of my decals...1000+ followers now and steady request for one-off decals.
