    SC Cutter not finishing cut

Baud rate is set on the cutter along with cut pressure, speed and origin set. Baud rate depends if your OS is setting a buffer to hold the cutter info and slowly feed it to the cutter until it empties.. Tell us what the baud rate is set as. It may need to be bumped up or down. Everything I've read on mine was to set the baud rate at 9600. If you overload the PC's OS with too much data going to the buffer some could get lost due to other task running in the background. If you have other things running. Like in Anti virus, spell checkers or even an internet connection uses memory and could disrupt communications from the cutter to the PC. Once the data stream is broken normally it will make a cutter or printer go nuts and garbage coming out till the buffer empties. It has been my experience when a job quits, something is interfering. Your task manager could be your friend to see what al is running while your trying to cut.
  6. I'm not familiar with illustrator. I used Coral Paint Shop Pro to massage my graphics. I use Inkscape to create the vector file. It does a very good job tracing the object while creating the vector file. How are you creating the vector file and saving it in what format? In Inkscape I always save my file as a regular SVG file before sending it to SCAL.

How Do You Do A Mirror Cut

As mentioned earlier. Your text is considered an object. Your graphic is considered a object. Any other items you add are consider an object. If you have move each of those objects around before you mirror then the objects are not groups or other words locked as one. It's kind of like flattening the objects to one. Then you can manipulate the object as you see fit. Change size, mirror, position etc. Just a tip on grouping. You are group two objects together and manipulate them. Then box the entire graphic and group the entire as one. Remember mirroring is looking away from you from the original. This would made the looking away side the shiney side. When cut it's flipped over and now looking at you with the shiney side up. I think I got that right. So when putting the vinyl in the cutter. The shiney side is the face. Face down in the cutter. When pressing it on. Face up. Did I get that right?

  12. Still can't quote with IE11. And no I will not use Foxfire or whatever it is. Works fine on the iPad. So the upgrade sucks.
  13. I would rattle can paint it though just to keep things clean around my vinyl. Nice work. Good use of leftover material. Tig welds?

    Daughters birthday present

I take that as a compliment. Thank you. You know, one could setup a mini photo booth and do this at a flea market. I think they would sell well. I'm using 12" vinyl with a small cutter so it would be feasible to turnkey and let the customer buy there own frame. What would something like that be worth?

    Daughters birthday present

There is a flea market north of Nashville and they have some of the most unique craftsman there making beautiful crafts that are one of a kind. Those are the gifts I hunt for. I had rather contribute to local venders work than buy Chinese knockoffs anyday. If you where to enlarge the first picture you will see my initials and the year kind of hidden on the graphic. I'm about ready to finish up another graphic project where I duplicated decals for a rare Yamaha two point hitch pull behind yard mower. This vinyl cutter has been loads of fun and very satisfying with the end product. -kid

    Daughters birthday present

Dang, wish they would upgrade their software so IE11 will quote. Cannot cut and paste either.. I'm not doing firefox, so don't mention it. Dakota: don't know exactly what your talking stuff they don't need. rlvied: I know nothing about etching, but it does strike my interest. I should have mirrored the image and put in one the back of a single piece of glass, but since I didn't I bought a cheap 8X10 and used the glass to sandwich the vinyl between two pieces which gives it floating effect. I'm working on one of my grandson and using what I learned from mistakes I made in this one.

    Daughters birthday present

Thanks express. I did a lot of research and reading on how to play with my photo editing software to massage the picture before importing into Inkscape and finally into SCALpro. My first attempt was a total disaster. After you create the SVG file in Inkscape you then must UNGROUP the scan. There are multi layers visible and you need to delete down to one usable layer. First attempt I forgot to remove all the other layers and the cutter went over the cut about seven times before I realized what I did. Next I need to know what the best vinyl to use for this purpose. The cheap stuff I bought to learn with off eBay is a B!tch to weed. I get a good cut but the vinyl seems to not want to separate with pulling something with it. Thanks for your comments and thank the rest of you for your comments.. -kid

    Daughters birthday present

This is the photo I made it from. So you be the judge. A lot of node editing went into it. The hardest part was weeding around the glasses. The cheap vinyl I was using kept lifting off and had the take a knife tip to place it back where it belonged.

    Photo silhoette

I was thinking of a way to give my daughter and son in law a birthday present since their day is the same. I started going thru my large library of pictures and found one I thought would work. This rascal was the devil to weed. I was using the only vinyl I had which was an exterior I'm using on a decal project. What type of vinyl would be best for this project. It will be framed as shown in an 8X10 landscape frame. I used PaintShop Pro to greyscale and to set brightness and contrast. I then imported into Inkscape and removed uneeded nodes. I cut thru SCALP on a 14" MH series cutter. What is the best way the next time I attempt this. I had to do quite a bit of photo editing before I imported into Inkscape. Any help, tips, comments welcome. -robert

That's a lot a weed man. Looks great.

    Photo silhoette

That looks fantastic Dawn. I'd have to go to a bigger cutter to do that. Is it stuck on the glass? My main problem is learning Inkscape. I've seen some amazing work done with it. I have problems with the simplest things such as how to connect two nodes together. A lot to learn and a lot to read. Getting there a step at a time. -robert

    Photo silhoette

I thought about that or even putting it on the outside. I decided to just peel off the dark and cut it fit a frame. It would look cool kind of floating in the frame though. I've never done something like this nor have I seen any pictures of one done. I'm sure many have, just couldn't find an example of what to do. I could still put it on glass front or back. Since there is no print I could reverse it.

    Registration marks and weed lines

When you have multi-colors to cut place your registration marks a symbol from the presets somewhere it is convenient to all three colors with minimal vinyl used.. Weeding box is built into the software. Goto OBJECT and drop down to weeding. If you withing page margins a box will appear around your work and will show in the preview to verifiy. You can group the weed box with your objects of the same color
  25. Here's a simple method to identify meds as to when to take them. Help your parents, yourself or a friend. Using your scraps can make someones life easier. I don't need my glasses to see which to take.
