  1. I just got swamped for this weekend, 3 large vinyl jobs, 30 shirts, 500 stickers, some odd number magnets and then our local newspaper called me offering me a full time graphic design job. couldnt they have called next week when im not as busy... or who knows, maybe orders will come in

  2. Please help, while trying to import simple text into signcut from AI, i get the error message ( all tiles are deactivated ) not sure what to do or what this message means? I am able to open other text that i have made in the past and i am saving it the same way. Anyone ideas? Thanks for your time.

    Andy

I have yet to successfully import anything into signcut, the only way I am able to get things to work is to use the plugin for illustrator that looks like it just copy/pastes things over. Its crude but it gets the job done.

  3. The heatpress vinyl is VERY THIN so i looks like it just made a slight mark, but it does indeed cut through it for weeding. If you are using cheap back of the shelf material that has been sitting around for a long time, you are going to have trouble cutting it. Spend the extra bucks for Siser or Thermoflex and I'm sure your cutter will work fine with it at the right settings.

  4. I work the cost of the app tape, including the waste into the total cost of the project. Its only a few cents per foot but I dont take a loss. I only use one roll of app tape until its almost out, then I get a new one. So for small projects I have extra tape being used, which is only a problem if you are a penny pincher.

  5. K so I got my samples of mactac and its a tight roll... I have an Epson 1100 that I'll use for the printing but its rather picky about feeding in pages. What is the easiest/best way to flatten the vinyl out. I've cut some strips down and rolled it in the opposite direction but the edges still keep rolling up.

  6. You should be able to do a web search for suppliers in your area or in a distance that you would be comfortable to drive, what kind of orders that is in that kind of rush? I usually try to stay away from people that put something off till the last minute then expect you to rush because of their lack of planing.

    Dan

I have some sororities as clients, they sometimes order within time to get materials but sometimes they need a banner or something quickly and my local supplier doesnt have everything on hand.

Fellers is east texas, I'm west texas... 400+ miles away

  7. yeah maybe your right did you buy it from Richard  (cobra inks) even if you didnt he is a great guy I have his email if you don't I would email him and he will probably have you call him on the phone and help you out.  Thats what I would do anyway.

Yea I got his emails a few minutes ago, said there might be air in the system from shipping so I did a few clean cycles and it seems to be working now. Didnt expect a reply from him until tomorrow or maybe even Tuesday, being zombie jesus day and all. Great guy.

  8. When you click on the printer settings and look at the ink levels is that screen showing them  all full, could it have run out inside the machine in which case you have to hit the reset button inside the machine and refill the empty one ?  I am pretty new with mine so just something to check.  hope it helps

It shows them as a bit over half full so I dont think its that, when i did the nozzle clean test thing the magenta one was blank, so it seems to me that the ink isnt getting to the cart for some reason.

  9. So I printed some stuff yesterday and everything came out great, today I was asked to print some photos of my cousin and I sent them to the printer. I look over and half ways through the 3rd photo the magenta just stops. The tanks still have ink in them but it seems that its not making it way to the cart or the head is clogged. I ran the clean head nozzle thing and the magenta still is blank when it prints the test. Is there a reason why the magenta ink isnt making its way to the cart and paper?

  10. Well , they are happy and asked me to do another one to go with the t-shirt design I did for them . Here is the first cut ..I have since cleaned up the inside of the tree and added to the hounds tail .

lol you will soon figure out how much everyone hates weeding, especially those little dots inside the tree.

  11. I've had a couple of people contact me for rush orders on stuff that I dont regularly carry and was looking around town for suppliers. I was only able to find one, Reece Supply. I could order the stuff online and pay the overnight shipping, but these projects arnt big and the shipping would take about 50% of the total being charged. So I'm wondering if anyone knows of distributors/supply shops for banners, vinyl, heat transfer stuff in El Paso, Texas or Las Cruces, New Mexico other than Reece.

  12. Thanks for this post txaggie......I am also looking to do about the same stuff and budget starting out since I had lost my job in November.

I have a question for Eli....Do you use a MAC? I have a MAC with my Illy CS3 and that is where I do all my graphics since the Art Institute. I am wondering how I can use it since there seems to be a problem I have read on the MAC user posts.

I have the same setup as you, except i have CS4. I use Illy to design then the pluggin for signcut. it copies it all to signcut and just edit the sizes and cut. very simple, you get a year of signcut for free when you buy a cutter from uscutters

  13. I've been looking at getting an Epson 1100 to do transfers for shirts, but if I can also do stickers and such all the better. Very interesting thread. Would forum members that are using this system be so kind as to post some pics of what you are doing, what vinyl you use and coating, I would be ever so grateful. Thanks.

I just posted what I did on it with full details on here: http://forum.uscutter.com/index.php/topic,26780.0.html
