This is my second job. I outsourced the printing of the logo, but I had to hand contour cut prior to install. The "X" is Oracal 5700 and the logo is on 5600 all dry applied. His first day driving around he said he had several people asking his business, he credited to the new look. This is on a Land Rover and on the back he didn't care about covering the side and top windows.

** updated, follow up ** need tips for applying reflective to auto
xpfguy posted a topic in General discussion
I am planning to apply some fairly large stripping to a vehicle. Most of the reflective material says do not wet apply. The stripping will be a vertical stripe that crossed over paint, window, moulding, ect. How would you apply this dry? -
thanks!

No, the small stripe is solid top to bottom and the fat stripe is cut flush with the small stripe. -

thanks, I was planning on Orange Oracal 5600 reflective. So using a little rapid tac app fluid should be ok? -
If a youth baseball team wants a banner made with their sponsors logos, is this an issue? Secondly, is their a contract to help protect us like; "xyz" vinyl company could ask "abc" customer to sign a release that says they have the right to have "123 company" logo reproduced? Sorry, does that make sense?

Thanks! He now has one on the back of two of his service trailers and just ask for another one to hang on his fence. Woo Hoo!

I did my first sign job. 2 signs both look same. 1 is 2x6 other is 2x5. I drilled and riveted them to back of his utility trailers. I had no idea what to charge. The sign metal is .40 aluminum painted gloss black on black and the vinyl oracal 5700 reflective. For a noob, installing my first large cut that had to go on dry because of the reflective product was pretty tough. I bought the sign in a 4x10 sheet and paid $30 for sheering. anyway... I charged $300 for both installed. What would you have charged and why? like most peoples first job, it was for a friend and I didn't want to over charge. comments and criticisms welcome Jason

.08 sq in or 11.50 sq ft ???
xpfguy replied to xpfguy's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
rrc, thanks so much for the information. It's nice to know how great people in this industry are when it comes to sharing knowledge and experience. Jason -
first noob here I have been searching the different post to find an idea of how to price like most noobies I'm guessing. My experience is very little but I am a jack of all trade type that is willing to "try" anything that I would rather not pay another human being for. enough about me, that's not the point. I have the opportunity to bid putting vinyl letting on a 6x12 enclosed trailer. 2 sides approximately 3 lines of text about 6-7' long and 3-4' tall overall and the back door about 5'x3' area same 3 text. I know enough that the larger the decal the more difficult they are to install. The rivits are also going to be a first time for me. So down to the nitty gritty, what to charge and how? Is .08 cent a good place to start for one color per sq inch? or 11.50 per sq ft? Should this pricing method cover materials and labor? Another thought I had was possibly all material plus 40% mark up and then add enough for labor that I don't price myself out of the job. For me this might be safe because while learning my materials are covered and I make something for my time which I am gaining experience. Jason

How are you approaching new business?
xpfguy replied to john!'s topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Here in Jax there is a sign shop on nearly every corner... I never noticed until I started getting interested in doing vinyl. I do plan to somehow market my services once I'm more comfortable doing it. -
.08 sq in or 11.50 sq ft ???
xpfguy replied to xpfguy's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Is there a noob dictionary? Does RTA mean Ready-to-apply? And does that mean weeded with transfer tape installed? Is substrate any form of media that the vinyl is applied to like glass, sheet metal, car door.. not sure about the meaning, although I will probably google it. 1.30 seams cheap to me, but what do I know. If a roll is 24" wide that's only 5.5 cents per inch but at a cost of less than .01 per inch that seems to be a good markup. Thanks for you very valuable information. Jason -

xpfguy replied to xpfguy's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
I agree about the sq ft, but what is fair? if you sale someone 18" tall graphic that is 4' long and since the roll is 24" wide would you sale the 8 sq ft.? -
thanks all, theses are great
