  1. I go a bit unorthodox. I walk into local stores and gas stations and offer them a cut if they sell my decals. It's basically free money for them, cause I don't say, "Buy these and see if they sell." I take all the risk and they take their cut, everyone's happy. It won't make me rich, but a little extra money here and there never hurt, and it helps me fund purchases of more supplies until I can get my name out there and pick up other types of business.

  2. Yeah. I'm not worried about vinyl on paint. If I had the cash, I'd wrap my whole car. What's the best way to cut a graphic that follows body contours? I've seen some people use that knifeless tape, but what if you want to cut designs in the vinyl before you apply it to the vehicle and have it follow the body contours?

  3. I would love to see what some of you have done with your own vehicles. I'm getting ready to letter mine this weekend, and I'm set with my back window, just not sure if I want to put vinyl on the side of my car or not. I'm sure some of you have full wraps, so don't be shy! Show it off!!

  4. ^^^I tried a combination of clear tape with paper tape. The problem I had with that is the paper tape (at least the tape I used) curled up and I ended up with a wrinkled mess. Maybe it was the tape I was using.

  5. I went totally paper a while back and for retail I usually cut a dot of the actual color and stick it on a header card. People have less trouble with paper tape especially when they try to wet install.

Hey jaybird, do you use this tape for multi-color decals? I'm getting ready to order more app tape and I see benefits in both clear and paper tapes, but just starting out, don't want to stock two different types of tape in multiple sizes if I can get away with it.

    Thanks

  6. I know USCutter offers credit for large purchases, but it would be great if we had access to a line of credit under $500 for purchasing supplies.  Understanding that there are customers in all stages of their business.  My local guys want years in business and other stipulations that a new start up just doesn't have.

  7. It'll be Tuesday before it will be here, should have been here last Friday.  I understand the cost of shipping, but I'm the one who had to explain to the customer that I wouldn't have the job done because my supplier messed up.  I know I should find a local guy for stuff like this, but being a brand new business with no credit and not having a lot of funds to play with, I can only afford to buy things once.  Someday that'll change...Hopefully.

  8. So I ordered a roll of vinyl on Wednesday. Two days goes by and never get a shipping email. So I call this morning to inquire. I'm told "its on it's way to me." Thinking it'll be here today and the shipping e-mail was never sent. Now I get the email and it's just now being shipped. Is it just me but shoudn't they eat the cost and overnight it to me? Now I have to wait till Monday or Tuesday for something I needed today.

  9. I would second Dakota's recommendation to skip the starter kit. There are some stuff in there that's really not that helpful, particularly the rolls of Green Star vinyl. Not that great of stuff and you will find that the colors you need are on a case by case basis with the exception of Black and white and maybe light red. Over time as you pick up work you will accumulate a lot more colors but I made the mistake of buying all kinds of colors many of which are still unopened after 2-1/2 yrs.

I bought a starter kit and got the same advice.  The problem is, if you try and build the identical kit, minus the vinyl, you'll pay more.  And I've gone through a ton of vinyl that was wasted while learning.  So I use the crazy, no one really wants colors, to practice on.  And the mostly used the others for family freebies.

I bought this kit on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/34-Vinyl-Cutter-BUNDLE-Sign-Cutting-Plotter-w-Sure-Cuts-A-Lot-Pro-Design-Cut-/281010926495?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item416d8e739f and even with the shipping cost, I still saved money and hit the ground running.  And I use everything they gave me.  I would buy again.

  10. Why do they always make the critter we are going to eat look so happy?  I love pulled pork, but maybe if the pig were grabbing his crotch saying "Eat Me!" or looked a little sadder.  Like this turkey...

    Now that's sad.

  11. Ok, so I'm working on my website, which is just informational at this time.  I am wanting a page with installation instructions that I can send people to who purchase from me.  I could just snag something off the net, but I figure everyone here is so generous, perhaps someone has something already put together I could use.  If could just get permission and a link, that would be great!

Here's the link to my site: www.creationsinvinyl.com

Looking for feedback.  I'm still building content and verbage.  Just looking for cosmetic feedback.  BTW...I don't know what anyone else's knowledge is, but this in 100% my work and if anyone needs any help with their sites, I'd be glad to help.

    Thanks!
