    how many use inkscape Linux

just giving an update got most of the tweaking done did more testing and love it - very stable and easy to use - i should post a video on you tube on how to do it if i get to that - were still working on a few things but for now - everything works great did first job from linux earlier in the week and went better than flexi did sizing was perfect - layering was better than flexi - just build it and print (SET IT AND FORGET IT) so now im working on making an auto feed for the vinyl little motor and when the vinyl pulls thru the cutter it till turn on the roller motor and the vinyl will not bang and slip
  3. ok I have had an mh series for about a year and haven't used it for about 6 months. the first 6 months I went thru 3 mother boards and I stopped using it when that one went out. since I stopped using it a while back I have upgraded to a Graphtec. well im wondering everyone's opinion on upgrading the current communications and mother board to a different brand. in theory I don't see why it wouldn't work. the new boards would take hpgl code and output power to the servos. it sounds little too easy that's why im questioning myself. I have thought about taking the boards out of the Graphtec and trying it but I cant afford to take the change of doing any damage. 2 reasons I want to do it - 1 tired of buying new motherboards 2 I cant get the MH to cut in Linux and I got the Graphtec to cut in Linux so what's your opinion on this
  4. it really dont matter now that i got inkscape to cut in linux and with having to have a special driver for the mh - it didnt want to deal with it i just sold the cutter
  5. i have been playing around with some new stuff with my cutter and just wondering if anyone else can cut with raw hpgl code -- just thought it would be something fun to do here is my code -- give me yours and we will see what we can do with it. if anyone wants more i will send a really large one over but here is a simple one to start and were limited to 20,000 characters this is written in hey lets have some fun with raw hpgl code

well I use inkscape or sk1 to cut my vinyl - look at my signature in the process of sending the cutable vector to the cutter I have an option to manually edit the code so that is how I can edit it or build it I am still testing something's out but so far it seams to work good setting the force or speed using the software but I haven't tested it on a pcut so I don't know the results of that im working with a Graphtec and I am looking for another cutter to test on so far I couldn't get the MHseries to work with it (in Linux) I am not sure but since it uses a usb to serial chipset its allot more difficult to set up the Graphtec plug it and saw it as a printer right away and easy to set up

    Sign I finished Today

what was the material that you had the vinyl on that looks cool - black shiny - that looks sharp

hey lets have some fun with raw hpgl code

that is the code that your cutter uses. (hpgl) when you design something of the software of your choice - flexi - sign go - whatever - it will convert your nodes and lines to segments - if you look at the code PU = pen up (pen if our case meaning knife) PD = pen down all the numbers are placement of the cutter and so on there is other codes too just looking for someone who can take the raw code and cut it - its not like a printer that takes the image and prints what's it translate to - an image - if I dump that to the cutter as text its not a program or a driver or anything like that it will cut what it is told to cut take any segment - PD2997,3099 = pen down at segment 2997 till 3099 - that's all it is just seeing if there is anyone here that knows more than how to draw a pic and cut.
  9. that's kind of what I was thinking I wasn't sure if anyone has tried it why did I go thru so many hmmmm there a piece of crap for starters I was just thought it would be something different to do - I was thinking of turning it into an engraver - if I could get it to work.
  10. good luck on getting a hold of customer support. that in itself is an accomplishment.

    how many use inkscape Linux

it works great - we will never go back to windows well since this is an inkscape forum i will try keep it in that topic i havent used inkscape in windows so cant really compare it to windows box but from what i can tell it does everything you can do in a windows box in a linux box. last week we got cutting vinyl to work in linux wich is a big deal since there isnt an easy way to do that - there is no programs out there at this time that supports vinyl cutting. i got ahold of a guy that has been working on it for a while and we got it to work GREAT over all linux -- love it so stable - no viruses - no ad ware - easy to use pros - listed above plus everything is free ----- our bigest pro now is we can cut vinyl in linux in inkscape cons - learning curve - less aplications - bigest complaint by others its not for gamers but thats why we have xbox and ps2 -

were now able to cut vinyl in Inkscape Linux ver

  14. ok i have done allot of research and calling people and manufactures. on how to fix this problem. To put in a nut shell an ionizer will fix it and it does. wow!!!!!! the difference is huge. first off during the day i am an industrial electrician and night i an a helper for my wifes business im an not an expert at all about static. it is electricity but it has different properties. so i will try to do my best on how things work and why they do the crazy things that they do. the best i can please feel free for anyone to correct me if i make an error here is a web site of the basics of static http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/static.html if you read that you would know that vinyl is an insulator it doesn't conduct electricity but the positive and neg electrons are still charging the vinyl roll kinda like a capacitor it will build up a charge and then zap in most of our cases its the motherboard the static cant be wiped off -- cant be taken to ground (grounded out of the vinyl) its an insulator the electricity doesn't flow from left to right from top to bottom where ever the charge was created it stays. grounding the cutter is kinda a fix but not the real fix. i had a great web site what explained it but i cant find it now but this was there explanation the vinyl is negative charged so it lacks positive charged ions and since the cutter is conductive it will take the positive charge ions away from the vinyl. now it is positive charge and lacks neg. untill the cutter cant store any more pos charged ions they can only be stacked so high. at this point it is balanced the cutter is full the vinyl is full. if you get to this point you probably will already see problems. cutter stopping cross cutting ripping from top to bottom what ever your complaint is its is static. why its because the positive ions in a sence are stacked so high there falling over and crossing over circuitry. its jumping across diodes, resistors , processors and more. i wish i had the excellent pictures but i don't. but if you ground the cutter it will keep taking away positive charged ions till the vinyl is so neg charged it cant have anymore neg charge built up on it. that isnt a good thing either it does work foe most but still not 100% the right way. talking to one guy who is an electronics guru was telling me the best way to protect was add components to the cutter and my thought i would rather eliminate the static. well first easiest way is humidity--- about 60% will start to help and 65% will really start to eliminate the static. we tried that and ya right try to maintain humidity in a place not easy to do and it starts to get uncomfortable but there was a very big difference in cutting allot better. the next way is to neutralize the ions if you have vinyl that is neg charge and a cutter is positive charge you get an ionizer and it will neutralize all the ions. i thought it was a joke so i took our air cleaner ionizer and it helped a little not allot. but we did see a difference so i started to look for a new one a bigger one a better one ok downside of an ionizer the cheapest one i found was $1000 and it really goes up from there. but i happen to work at an industrial place that was getting ride of allot of over head ionizers i got a bunch of them and o my the cutter has been going for an hr now and there is almost no static on the vinyl it doesnt cling to itself it doesnt crack and pop when its unrolled even after cutting very detailed pieces 6 feet long or more. how i have it set up is rollers and the vinyl sitting on the table -- then the ionizer ---- then the cutter works great the ionizer is 24 inches long with 2 blowers fits perfect and its made for over head but i have it upside down still no problems. no more mother boards for me --------- im using one and i see a huge difference. i have allot more for backups don't think i will need them. here is the web site of the one i have but mine is an older model http://www.esdsystems.com/ESDCatalog/Ionizers/Electronic/Overhead/OverheadElectronics/62250/ its about $1100 new these are older but great if you have any other questions feel free to ask me i would like to help others solve there static problems. kennethsokolinski@comcast.net my next project will be an auto feed. she uses alot of easy weed and the weight of it is too much for the cutter to pull off the roll. so small motor, limit switches, and gearing should fix that problem. and then next my big thing that she wants is to be able to cut in Linux. we would like to get rid of windows all together. i have worked on it a little before but i still would like to but thats down the road.
  15. i don't know why some people have problems and others don't. i have properly grounded outlets still had problems so i added more grounding still had problems and this fixed them. we do notice the difference between different types of vinyl siser easy weed is a hug problem for us other vinyls are not that big of a problem.
  16. add to that cutting software for other OS. linux there isnt one out there they would have the market i see alot of people trying to get it to work and only a few have
  17. that will not work. its an insulator. the static doesnt move, you cant wipe it off. just will not work. o ya and at first thats what i thought so i got a fine copper screen mesh that we use for grounding high voltage and laid it across the vinyl and grounded it and nothing the static went right past it and it didn't help at all. im not an expert i cant tell you the scientific way why it cant work. i thought it would be that easy but its not.
  18. We have 2 computers and one has Ubuntu on it and the other has XP. If it wasn't for cutting software I would be all Ubuntu. Right now I design in Linux and cut in windows so I'm going to try to get cutting software to work in Linux. I have seen a couple of people make Inkscape work as a designer and a cutter but I still haven't found the script that needs editing but still looking. I have also seen that people have used VMware and run flexi or another program inside it. but since VMware is about $80 I'm going to try a few other open source programs. the new chip set I haven't looked too hard but what is the chipset that is in the newer cutters. from what I read sometime in 2008 they changed to a different one and if anyone knows that that would be very helpful. this is going to be a high priority for me. we think that some of the issues that were having is windows and we would be more stable if we went with Linux. if anyone is interested I can keep everyone posted. if anyone has any information feel free to add to this or email me and we all can benefit from it when I have done searches in forums for Linux and cutting there really isn't a great instructions on how to make it all work so I will be keeping a log and hope to have all the different ways to make it work when I am done. then I hope to make step by step instructions for everyone. thanks

Ok Linux and mh series-- project--

I did get it to work. in virtual terminal and it does work good few down sides biggest down side cant copy and paste from one OS to the other. so I thing after I get some time im going to look into changing script to cut directly from Linux. the only designer I use right now is Inkscape does almost everything I need it to do.

Ok Linux and mh series-- project--

last night after I did the post I downloaded virtual box. then I installed windows xp inside it. wow how cool is that. but I hit a stump so tonight I will be working on that. usb will not open. I think I have all my setting right but I'm not too sure but tonight I will play with it more. when I go to my computer everything is there C: D: but no USB to hook up my external hard rive and that computer doesn't have any serial or parallel ports so I have to get the USB to open. if I cant get it in a day or to I will try the VMware and see if that is any better one thing I don't like about it you cant copy and past anything from one OS to the other or at least I tried and cant do it.

i did see that one nd i have talked to bob but there isnt any details on how he got it to work
  23. I use Flexi. Just bought the MH871 34". I had a 24" prior. I cannot get parallel port to work. I have everything setup Flexi and no other devices on the port. When I go to Production Manager and send job, it shows it is cutting, but nothing is happening on the cutter. Does anyone know what may be causing this? I have used the USB in the past with old cutter, but with this new one, it is not working. My information that came with cutter says that the recommended use is the parallel port, so I thought I would try that. Please help. I'm falling behind. Thanks

    Need Help MH871

Thanks for the information. I have submitted a ticket for support. Yes, I am sure I am using the parallel port. I have also tried using the USB port it nothing is happening. If you have anymore ideas I would love to hear them. Thanks again.
