IN SPANISH WAOOOOOOO
lueman replied to MR kranwinkel's topic in USCutter Equipment Feedback or Suggestions
quisqueya? It's the native Indian name for the Hispaniola, also known as Haiti/Dominican Republic Many Dominicans including myself call themselves quisqueyanos. And thank you we are perfectly capable of learning ENGLES. a PENDEJO is a rooster that won't defend himself in a fight, it has come to mean someone who won't do what he needs to to survive and English in America IS necessary for survival. -
Pricing for small decal
lueman replied to loren's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Hi Cyberchuck! You have good points but I've worked the numbers every way I could and the /piece rate give me an instant snapshot of where I am. I've been working wholesale manufacturing for 10 years and I've seen company after company fail because they charge too little, not because they charge too much. It depends on your market and the perceived value of your product. That's why I can go to Neiman Marcus and buy a Nike polo for $150.00 or I can get the same shirt at bargain bonanza for $75.00 or I can go to 7/11 and buy a coke for $2.00 or go to Walmart and buy it for $1.00 My point is you should always value up your product, those customers that always want a bargain can always go somewhere and find it cheaper, but not necessarily better. As to employees - You are an employee of your own company - if you don't pay yourself for the work you do, then you are going to have problems determining true costs - The "profits" you are earning should be set aside to grow your business, repairs, save and to innovate (aka R&D). If you feel you ned to give quantity discounts then I suggest try a graded % ie 1-40 0% discount, 40-80 10% discount, 50+ 20% discount, but never give a discount that leaves you within 20% of your brake-even point. Remember your profits have to carry the company through the good times and the bad times. In this industry that means every 3 years you will struggle. If you are always at 20% above costs you won't have any reserves to survive. Oh and just to add $1.56 is ok' but factoring the above I would have charged $1.80-$2.00 in quantity and $2.50 for small orders $.24 isn't a deal breaker. -
Buy an external harddrive case & plug the HD there then run it from USB or 1384 (Firewire,Ilink whatever it's called now).

you probably need the right driver, I tried installing an hpgl driver for my LP24 ( I wanted to run it directly from corel) but I haven't found any that worked.

Pricing for small decal
lueman replied to loren's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
I'm a little wary of pricing programs. I've always priced my product based on my costs and the perceived quality of my product. On average it takes me 20 min to cut and weed a 1 yard sheet of 6"X6" decals I'm sure there are speed demons that can go much faster but ,really day by day I think 20min is very typical. that's about 36 /hour at $2.00 that's just $76.00 that sounds good except material costs cut that to $70.00/hour and labor cost further cut that to $55.00 divide that by the 36 pieces that 6X6 decal is earning just $1.56. And I'm not even taking in to account mistakes & waste and setup costs. I'm sorry but I'm not working for $1.00 a decal! Especially not when I walk in to any mall and I see lines of people paying $15.00 for the same or smaller decal. we sell a premium service, if you give it away then it's just a commodity. -
In Seminole county you have to have a DBA, and a city and county occupational licence ($42, $25,$25) also before you get the DBA you must post a fictitious name filing for two weeks in any local paper. The DBA will allow you to file for a Tax ID with the state, that way you can file and pay Local & county sales taxes and it will allow you to buy wholesale (no sales tax, but you have to add the sales tax to the final product). the Dept of revenue website is:http://dor.myflorida.com/ good luck.

Hi all, I've got an interesting problem I what to create a graphic that has a splatter effect something like mud on a jeep. I want to be able to add it to various graphics like lettering or an Icon. I use Corel, AI or inkscape. Please replies only, no question I want to know what You would do. Thanks to all in advance.

Thanks bannerjohn It's a start. I was thinking more in the line of a sideways splash. Anyone know how to recreate it in corel?? I thought of using a contour but that would be too regular, and single dots besides being a weeding nightmare are too uniform.

In over my head with this
lueman replied to VolleyChick's topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Discussion
In order to change the pressure the machine had to be taken off line , try resetting your origin & place back on line. though turning it on and off effectively dose the same thing. If that dosen't fix the problem, then I agree the software has somehow lost it's settings, reset the computer & check the com settings again. Good luck. -
Hopefully better than a self described genius that stuck us in two wars ( only one of which was against our enemy) Helped to kill an extra 5000 Americans, wounded and maimed 50,000+, gave a foot hold to our enemy and crashed our economy. Not to mention the billions his family made from the high oil profits. "If my enemy is the enemy of my enemy it's glorious if they try to destroy each other!"

CUTTING PRINTED IMAGES WITH LASERPOINT CUTTING FEATURE
lueman replied to mannytees1's topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Discussion
Look for Contour Cutting , but you can Try this: Original post: Sign cutting software / SignBlazer / Re: welding and weeding in signblazer on: May 21, 2009, 03:18:30 PM I still think my idea of using backing tape is best. as to the cut a print problem : 1. reset the printer (turn off wait 15 seconds, then on again) 2. The printer needs to be "on line" 3. "print a cut" works with cut mask on 4. print the design 5. start "cut a print" 6. adjust right reg mark (I use arrow keys on keyboard and use '5' to toggle inching) 7. adjust left reg mark 8. then cut to contour -

lueman replied to PaperBoy's topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Discussion
Yeah, A good tech is more temperament than skill, but it good to have someone like Ken - both skilled & easy to get along with. Unfortunately, I'm mostly skill, not easy to get along with, guess that's why I'm an embroiderer and not a tech. Peace out -
Ive never been able to get this cutter to work....
lueman replied to PaperBoy's topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Discussion
sounds like you are hitting the left kill switch. try this: turn off your cutter and physically move the head to the far right hand side about 2" from the right kill switch. turn on the cutter - your cutter will treat this location as the right origin. check the design dimension and make sure it's 1" to 1 1/2" less than the maximum for you cutter, better still use a small design. do a test cut - if the cutter still goes to the far left and stops again - then I would give Ken a call and get tech support. if the cutter works fine then the problem is your original design is too big for the cutter - you need to break it up somehow -
WARNING TO EVERYONE!!!!
lueman replied to laras4labs's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
BTW the FBI warning isn't actually written by the FBI it's a warning DVD companies are allowed to add to a DVD indicating what the FBI is capable of doing if you use copyrighted material. Also it's a criminal suit (jail time) not a civil suit, the infringed company must still file a separate suit and prove both that you committed the copyright infringement (a successful FBI criminal prosecution) and actual damages (again see my previous post). Gee I love Prema-facia laws! -
WARNING TO EVERYONE!!!!
lueman replied to laras4labs's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
This doesn't sound like a valid case. Most large companies simply ask you to stop the practice. Also there is fair use laws - if you were simply advertising to a company rep in order to induce a sale then there is no case . Also the company can't sue for lawyer or origination fees, just on the profit the company would have made if you had been a licensed dealer - it doesn't include the the price to be a dealer because if it did the suit would be moot, you in effect would be a dealer if you paid the licensing fee, so again it just doesn't make sense. -

I hope I' in the right forum. Here goes! For all you who haven't seen the obvious yet, INFLATION is here and I haven't seen a great movement in product. Hope this dosen't mean stagflation, but just put all your cash reserves in gold, just in case. -
I keep hearing the same theme and I have found that it's very true! A lot of people get into this market, but just like computer makers and cars only the ones with talent survive. Good luck to all, and keep your quality high, you'll survive.
