I've been part of this board for a little while now, long enough to know there are more than a few vets here. (and probably some active duty as well). I would like to give a sincere (as sincere as a post on the internet can be) thank you to any of the men and women here that are current or ex-military. I appreciate you and your service so that my family and I can enjoy the comforts that we do. Thank you.

mr300, I never noticed that you are in Punta Gorda. My parents lived there for a few years (early 2002 until 2006 or so, I don't know exactly but I know they didnt move from punta gorda until a few years after hurricane charley). They moved to North Port now. My sister tagged along a few years later, her and her husband moved not too far from where my folks are at. My fam and I are hitting the road next Saturday to go for a Thanksgiving reunion, should be fun. We make regular visits to Harpoon Harry's, Dean's & Sharky's whenever we are in town!

anybody ever use this stuff? I just went to beacon graphics' website and saw it listed there and wanted to find out what you folks thought. Thanks

Just curious. I had never heard of it before and in doing some research there were posts about this brand on other forums that go back to 2005. On a side note, I like that General Formulations is based in Michigan.

Any idea who makes it? I've been googling around for a little bit and haven't found anything yet.

I saw something on another sign forum that it's just 48" shop lights framed up but can't really confirm anything.

Anyone ever pressed a hat with a regular heat press? (as opposed to a heat press designed for pressing hats). How'd they turn out? Any preliminary actions needed? I know it sounds cheap but I don't have the money for a hat press and I've got a customer who needs a small run of hats to go along w/their softball t-shirts. Thanks!

I want to get started but need A LOT of help
tshirtn00b replied to DJLoco's topic in General discussion
Since you don't know much about the industry I would suggest you start there. Learn about the different types of vinyl and how it can be used (removable, cast, intermediate, heat press, etc). After you've done some research I'd start with a business plan, at least a skeleton of one. There are a LOT of variables that need to be considered. What business are your 30 years of experience in? -
are you (we) legally allowed to use the facebook thumbs up/down?

homemade solution comparable to rapid tac2

For whatever reason I cannot find a plain dish detergent without some kind of "extra." Even the generic brands all have a bleach alternative. Does anyone know if that would affect the adhesive in any way? Also, if dish detergent isn't an option, what else could be used? I read someone using baby shampoo - anything else? Thanks -
I know this is an old thread but thought I'd post anyways... SignCraft is another cool magazine (signcraft.com). You get a price guide w/your subscription too which is handy when pricing/guesstimating jobs

Pressing hats
tshirtn00b replied to tshirtn00b's topic in Clamshell Heat Press Discussion or Support
Nothing yet, was just wondering if it could be done. -
Can someone help me convert this to a vectored image? I tried scanning the persons business card but the background was too difficult to remove from around/in between the lettering so I took a picture of it. It's a little better but not much. I can't remove all of the background color w/o f'n up the rest of it. Thank you! T

Pressing hats

well that sucks. thanks for the input! -
I hate how the parenthesis always run across the top of the numbers too. Whenever I have to use them in my designs I put them in separately from the rest of the number so I can line them up individually. They look more natural this way rather than having everything aligned to the top. Good work btW! Didnt mean to steal your thunder by going off on a tangent!

How did you like that JPSS? I have used some other brands (IronAll) in the past but was not happy with them at all. Have heard nothing but good things about JPSS on other forums.

yea, as long as i hand over my first born at the border. I *might* get her back upon re-entering the states..that's debatable though. I haven't been to Canada in a long time let alone TO.

X,Y Calibration question - cuts are longer than what they should be
tshirtn00b posted a topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Support Requests
I've noticed on my machine recently (LP48) if I cut a rectangle for example the Y (the cut that feeds the vinyl forward, not left to right) is a little bit longer than what is set up in my design software. Windows XP, Illustrator CS3 w/SignCut X2 plugin. I cut some 12" x 30" rectangles the one day (12"x30" in Illustrator) on a 15" wide roll but my cutter cut 12" x 30.5". I just did some 12"x18" cuts today and it cut 12"x18.25" I am guessing this is some kind of calibration issue but not really sure where to look. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks. -
Seeking Matte finish intermediate/premium cast/calendered
tshirtn00b replied to orbitgrfx's topic in Vinyl
Check out FDC 4725. They are not labeled as "matte" but they definitely don't have the shine that the others do in my color guide. -
Gauging accurate colors off of a website is difficult. Contact the manufacturers and they will gladly send you a sample kit along with color charts. Some places charge for the color charts but I found if you contact the manufacturers directly, they'll send it to you for nothing.

Seeking Matte finish intermediate/premium cast/calendered
tshirtn00b replied to orbitgrfx's topic in Vinyl
FDC 2100 (high performance) has a matte white and matte black FDC 4200 (Intermediate) has a matte white and matte black Avery 900 (Ultimate Cast) has matte clear, matte white and matte black Avery 700 (High Performance) has matte white and matte black I didn't see any other matte colors in any of my color guides. Hope this helps. -
Id make that the primary place for supplies. Who cares what the prices are!

Booper, what kind of laminate did you go with? I'm up in the air between an aerosol (FrogJuice, ClearJet) or a roll of laminate material. Aerosol is cheaper up front, but you obviously don't get as much coverage as you would out of a roll. Thanks
