Hello everyone. I usually only do cutting, but the company I am working for asked me to do a job that I have to have printed. Its a simple logo in the middle of a white strip. (60: long by 8 tall) i have the logo as a eps with a transparent background. It will be printed on white. My local printer needs me to send him a ready to print and cut file for my wholesale pricing. Problem is i do not know how to lay it out with cut lines and all.. its two prints, one is 60x8 and the other is 70x8. Both the same. Anyone have any links to how tos for layout design for this? I know its being printed on a 30" wide roll so it will fill both on it. Thank you dennis

Ok, I'll give it one more go, then if i cant figure it out, anyone want to print these for me?

Here is what I have so far. also these are the instructions from the print house on doing cut lines for them.. make a new layer called CutContour Copy outline of image and paste it on the cutcontour layer (the layer must be named CutContout) Select all shapes and "Unite" to make one shape change to 100% Magenta add to swatches, the swatch name must be CutContour and changed to spot color sofar.pdf

Corp isnt an issue, we are an indirect. Just need to get it printed. And having a hell of a time figuring out the layout. Abotu ready to just have a ionline company do it for me. Its a simple layout, but i am not used to doing it...

Hello all I just upgraded to windows 7 on my cutting machine, (xp restore cd wouldnt read) I have the cutter connected via a gigaware usb a to serial adapter. Which under xp worked excellent. Now however it will send a test feed to the cuter, but will not cut. just sends the file an looks at me like I am an idiot. Anyone else have any issues with a windows 7 and a usb to serial adapter? Using signcut pro as well thank you dennis

nevermind, hardware flow control was mismatched to software...

Would say bandsaw. Cut a template out of a couple 1/8 plywood. Clamp the coro between two of them tight, then cut with the band saw. Use the same technique basiclly to cut thin plastic pieces for woodworking laminets

I had a customer want a custom print made for them to put on their drum head. Since I dont to vinly printing, it was a very detailed and colorful pic. I sub'd it out to my local sign guy, been doing it 30 years, and really good. So I get the file to him, (only had a jpg but in cymk) Pick up finished print today, and proced to install Notice that the black isnt black on the print, as it is inthe pic. He used a clear laminate transfer tape over it. When I went to remove it, it was bear! Vinyl would pull back from the head, massive air bubbles, etc. Now I have a ruined head that I have to replace and redo the print to install on the new one. is there a better laminate transfer tape that i should have him use? The vinyl was Orajet doesnt have a number on it though

Here is some of my recent work. Its a Local bands logo. Really a simple cut and design, but still cool. Now have to get a price on having it printed on like 4 stickers for the band to give out. Making it out of cut vinyl not really the best way to go...

Also if there is anyone here that wants to give me a price on printing this, new image is 21 in diameter.

Ok After reading the above. It seems as I might have tried to take the laminate off of it. I will be going back to him on monday to talk about it. Either way the blacks were way off. More so with the laminate on it, it wasnt clear at all and more grayish then solid black. I managed to get the print of the head with only leaving slight glue residue on it, so will try getting that off before doing another one on it. It is the front head, the one that faces the crowd not the pedal side. Here is a pic of it before I attempted applying it.

One thing I can say on getting used to a tablet, (coming from my photography side) once you get it, put your mouse in a desk drawer and forget about it for atleast a week, Use on the pen. training your mind work in two planes is the hardest part.

Ok, well just like in my photographer, say you dont do something, and friends still ask for something that is outside your area. And being one to never turn down work, figure to ask for some help here. Either direction on creating the artwork, or a complete sub job out, (which part of it I will have to sub out anyway, as I have not mastered layering yet) Friend wants to put some mermaid wall art in her daughters room, sent me this shot to show what she is looking for as a idea, only with the mermaid having brown hair. So, can anyone direct me to the fonts used here, and any mermaid vectors? I have some that are just silhouettes for another wall she wants, but nothing like this one, and if anyone has a link to any sea creatures as well. I have no problem putting it all together, but will need this one printed out and cut, in removable vinyl, (orcal 631 I thinks) Since her daughter is only 6 and figures will have to change in a year or two as her favorites change... Ok, well looking through all the stock photo places for vector art, all the vectors I can find for a mermaid not in a color print are to sexy for a 6 year olds room.. So, anyone care to give me a quote on a full color contour cut one? Or can anyone direct me where to get this mermaid in a vector?

Good point on the casting, didnt think of the heat. I guess its time to fire up the lathe again some now that I am cutting vinyl. Didnt think to use it for the pens!

Nice work, Are you just wrapping the barrel in the vinyl then casting it in clear acrylic? Dennis

Dakota, Could cut them, but at like 4" its a PITA to weed. Also thinking it would be chaper to have them just printed.. Shoot me a price, looking for like 50-100 of them 4" dia round.

Hi, Im just learning the ins and out in this, but a question on this one for the pro's. Wouldnt that be a better candidate for a vinyl print then a cut? Especially for stickers? Couldnt he then use or have then printed on clear vinyl so only the artwork is shown? Or print in full color with the black bg? Just wondering what the pros would be to cutting this instead of printing Thanks

There is no exceptions for personal use per se' The closest one would come to this in a personal area would fall under fair use and even then, it could be tough. Now if you use a logo to create a parody and not solely the logo itself, you may have a case of fair use. BUT unless you have the time and the means to defend that stance, it is not worth it once you receive the C&D letter, as they will win just in time and cost. Being a professional photographer copyright is something that is dealt with very thoroughly.
