How to come up with price?
lynnpromotions replied to SMD's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Hourly - Figure out how much you want to make in an hour and charge that price By COGS - Figure out how much you pay for your material and multiply that by a factor such as 100% markup: multiply by 2 By Job - Size up the customer and quote a price based on what you think they will pay By size - Flat fee per unit such as a square foot You can do one or more of these ways. Most shops will charge by the square foot. Add on's. You may also be able to charge for Art prep, color changes, separations, etc. -
Mugs are heavy and cost a lot to ship. NovachromeUSA is close by you in NoCal. Not sure of others. Conde has Made in the USA mugs that are very nice but cost a buck more each.

American Apparel and LAT Sportswear are manufacturers. LAT is in GA, AA is in Los Angeles.

Matching customer logo colors to vinyl colors???
lynnpromotions replied to veddderman123's topic in General discussion
I have heard of PMS colors being required but not CYMK. Normally color proofs are required for this type of work prior to going to production. If your customer wishes to pay for this then you could do it. -
Find out from them what they want. We normally do 10-12 inches wide unless otherwise specified. We do have a car club that we do 16 inch wide logos for shirt backs but they are all 2X to 5X shirts.

Should I wash the shirt first?

I don't think you are high at all. 4 shirts with pockets and 2 locations for $80 out the door? The screen charges alone would equal that if you were screening them. I would be at $18-$20 each.

got it. go to your school and see if they have an intern program. then get the job via that program. otherwise working for free is generally in violation of federal and state labor laws. -

International banner sales
lynnpromotions replied to Can-Am's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
don't even waste your time, this is a well known scam. their payment to you will bounce or will be charged back. your payment to the shipping will disappear and you will be stuck with worthless banners. the worst part is if you pay with a cc they will steal that too and you will get a bunch of charges to your cc and some other person will get stuck with the bill as they do this again. -

How to compete with $100 billboards?......?????
lynnpromotions replied to Truckntran's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
We don't compete on price. We price our product to make a profit. That said, we do pay attention to what others are doing but we don't sell for under cost or price match at all. As an example, the art store across the street has a roland printer and prints banners for under $4/sqft retail. We are at $7.50 for printed and $5 for cut vinyl. That is just the way it is. We do sell banners and our customers do come back because we offer other services. -
Collecting Sales Tax
lynnpromotions replied to tattoo.dan's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
In California wholesale sales are not taxed but retail is. But, if I were to pay sales tax on materials that I resell I would still charge sales tax on the final sale for sales within the State. When I fill out my tax form at the end of the year I would account for the sales tax paid on resold items and take that off of what I owed to the State for taxes collected. One more item, Sales tax is a levy and even if it is not collected it must be paid. There is nothing that says you must charge your customers sales tax, only that you will pay that to the governing agency that imposes it. -
After several weeks of rain, snow, hail, tornados, mudslides, etc. (what more is there?) we were at 83F yesterday. Very pleasant day. Forecast is for the week to remain the same.

We don't compete with walmart. Our work is custom to the customer spec. Can't get that at walmart.

Saw it at the trade shows. Looks like an easy way to get into screen printing.

grinding noise, i think i fixed it.
lynnpromotions posted a topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Support Requests
My laser point started grinding and the rollers would seem to bind. I think I fixed the problem. One of the screws on the roller seemed to stick up a little and it was loose. I tightened it down and the problem seemed to go away. Just a note in case any one else has that problem. -

it looks like the head of the screw was up just enough to catch on something under the covers. once i tightened it the problem went away. -

Ok, we have been cutting for hours now without an issue. I think that was it.
