    Thank you all and re-intro

Not bad, I hope you charged well for this job. I'd be around $400
  3. I keep Avery 6 year (comparable to 651) in stock and that's pretty much all i use. No issues at all going on 5+ years. I use cast vinyl if the job calls for it (rivets, compound curves, stripes)
  4. In all reality 651 would do fine on this job but on vehicle lettering i always try to do cast vinyl if i can. I've used 6 year vinyl on many jobs with ZERO issues in 5+ years now. Jobs with rivets need cast no questions asks and jobs with curves / indents need cast as well. If your using a fresh roll on this job i would go for cast though since it would just be fixed into the price with your mark up on the materials anyway. Use Avery, 3M or Oracal vinyls, don't waste your time with shinerite and other no name brands you can't even find much info on. This job i would be at $500-$650 installed using cast vinyl + any travel time if it's not dropped off at my shop. Shouldn't take anymore than 3 hours to install it.
  5. Well guys, I have some information i would like to pass along to help you all out in your business journey. I have had a family member ask to do Yenko style stripes on a vehicle of his. It was a muscle car that they didn't make a actual "real" yenko version so this was obviously custom. He told me to go ahead and get it designed up because he wanted to get it done and just needed to get the car re-painted first. I said alright and sat down and had 2.5 hours replicating stripes on the hood as well as both sides to fit this car. Yesterday i find out he backed out on getting the car painted and is ordering a kit off line that he thinks will fit still off a actual yenko model car similar to his since he found a old historic place who replicates just muscle car stripes for $200. So i'm screwed on the design time by a family member that you would think was serious about getting work done. Another incident was earlier this week i had a customer call me saying a friend referred them and they need a dark grey vinyl color for their tow truck doors. I said no problem, meet me at my shop with half the money. The customer says "im on my way now" and i order it from my supplier while i wait since they needed it for the next day and time was running out to get it shipped and to my door the follow day from my supplier. Hour went by, two hours went by and no show and he won't answer his phone. The customer shows being active on networking sites I've seen but will not answer my messages on those or phone calls now. So now i'm stuck with vinyl i can't return unless i want a crazy restocking fee and a color i haven't had a request for (dark grey 6 year) in the 5 years i've been in business. Lesson of the century: Don't Trust Anyone, Get your money up front no matter who it is.
  6. $50 RTA and $110 Installed with minimal travel time Now the question is, What did you charge now that your asking to price it after you did the job?

    When doing windsheild banners...?

wasn't there a thread or two about this earlier in the week?
  8. You tell me you cannot get legit for whatever reason but yet you have all these machines and equipment in your signature? Wow.
  9. Why not just get legit? It's not that big of a deal to go get a business name registered, sales and tax license and then notify your town if any that your doing business from home. So many people try to weasel the system and it's really making you look bad. People will catch on when you mention "oh make the check out to my personal name" or "i'd rather accept cash only". Sounds shady because it is shady.
  10. Hey everyone, As always i'm looking for new services to offer my customers and i wanted some information on printing on mugs. How exactly does the process work to print full color logos and what not onto mugs? I know there are mug presses out there and would appreciate any input. What kind of printer is required if any and what material is best to use? Thanks!
  11. Hey guys, I want to get some beanies and hats made for my business but am having a hard time understanding how to digitize a logo. I know everyone i have talked to charges a one time set up fee which is fine but if i can save the file correctly myself i would like to do that so it's set up the way i want it. Now of course i have my logo in vector format but this doesn't really matter from what i have been reading. How exactly does digitizing work? Thanks!

    Windshield Banners

I do straight most of the time, On some cars like camaros (newer) you have to curve them but it's mostly straight for most cars.

New I phone 4? Screen protectors

static cling on phone screens works but is not sellable IMO It's very hard to apply without bubbles, I tried on 3 phones that i have had. It does work though but you will get alot of angry people due to it being hard to apply, even with a hint of dampness.

This. I do 90% of this stuff as a hobby. I'm happy if I make enough on my side jobs to cover the cost of the extra material I use for myself. I got my cutter for nearly free and I next to no overhead. Sounds more like people are hurt because the small guy is "stealing" their business. Capitalism can be a bitch sometimes. I am in no way "hurt". You can shoot low prices all day but when something happens the guy who is charging like he should for his work will be there to back up anything that the customer may need further. That may be why signs are just a hobby and will not turn into a full time deal for them. I am very serious about my job in the industry that's why i post what i do.
  15. I appreciate your time and everything but this is not effective. I put in 42x3" for a window banner and it says $8.82, There is no way your making hardly any money doing things this low. I would not have this on your website just for the fact of you looking like the cheapest guy/girl out there. Don't worry about putting pricing on your website, EVERY order is custom so why?

I just wish some guys here would get more serious about pricing their work
  17. I get $18 1 sided, $28 double sided and i print mine of course. Vinyl on the other hand, would be more since you have to get each color and layer them.

    Back window decal

Show me somebody willing to give $30-$40 for a one color one line website across the back window and ill show you a Fat dude that is gonna move to where that is!!! I get $30-40 for windshield banners all the time and that's just what this is. Your low charging does not reflect everyone in the business so i hope one day you understand how to make good money. Window banners in my area go for $60-100 because shops don't want to deal with these "small" customers but i will all day long and $30-40 installed is not a bad price. You use the same material as if it was 12" tall instead of a few inches so CHARGE for it. Well anytime i can turn $3 into $90 and all i had to do was drop of the items then i consider that good money. Is your $30-$40 for "Windshield Banners" the price including you installing them? Just asking.. Yes that does include install. I can install a window banner in about 10 minutes tops. I think you were on the low side though still, I mean your going to get the guys who want a discount for more than one but 5 isn't really enough to get it down to $18 each but hey, that's the way you want to operate then by all means do it. But i have seen people come and go doing low bidding so just be aware. Alot of you are stuck in the "oh it only cost me this much so i don't want to overcharge someone". That's how you make money and plus, your not just selling based on your material costs. Your selling your product and service on your craft. Anyone can buy a cutter but it takes someone who knows what they are doing to fix it when things go wrong and learn to design the right way so the job at hand goes smoothly.

    Us Cutter on you tube

That's how i apply tape on large graphics too but i use a big squeegee instead of another roll behind it.

Wow $170? We are coming up with $400 or so because we see VALUE in our work and charge for it. $170 is a spit in your own face for this job. I get $200 for a set of 2 color truck doors on a dump truck..... If your serious about pricing your work and being in this industry google sign craft. It's a pricing guide to help people who have no clue to price their work and make good money
