    I got hosed.

20 hours? good lord man, i don't see anything that would take 20 hours to complete but that's just me because I've been at this for 5 years now. So, what did you charge? You really only got hosed if the client didn't pay you. You made the price and they paid it. I got a window lettering job today for 2 10x24" 2 color graphics that will go on separate windows. I charged $314 installed and that includes the 2 colors (white and metallic gold), 1 hour travel time, 1/2 hr artwork set up since the customer had the file and i had to make a few adjustments and set it up and 1 hour to cut/weed/mask and 1 hour to install. You need to get a grasp on what it costs you to produce the job, then how much time you will have on different aspects of the production. I would absolutely charge extra to go off ground, one wrong move and your in the hospital. Check out the articles around about pricing and NEVER lose money on a job again. http://estimatesoftware.com has a great blog.
  2. Around $42 + any travel time and or any design time.

    It's not much

    looks like a pear
  4. I found a file on the forums of the mustang bumper insert lettering but am puzzled on the best way to apply them. The color is a metallic color which means the vinyls very thin. Any tips would be appreciated.
  5. Sounds great, do you happen to have the sized template so i can make sure mines on point? I haven't done this job yet, customer hasn't called back to schedule a appt
  6. IMO that's very high for printed, i don't think banners that are printed are any higher than $6 PSF here anyway and that would be just shy of $2k for this one but it would depend on what you can outsource it for
  7. In all honesty, i would do this printed and tell the customer each year you can put a "patch" over the date if it needs changed. This isn't a way i would want to do this but printing would be the BEST way to do something this large IMO I would most likely outsource it to a larger company who can print this banner in the length since it's very large then mark it up.

    My first store front window

Looks good but yeah, adhesive is NOT UV resistant so i wouldn't look for it to hold up long. Might hold up longer than we think but i wouldn't chance it. I don't understand why people install vinyl on the inside, nobody is going to pick it off. There is no reason to unless someone plans on pissing in someones cheerios.

    Things left out of manuals

another one is -if the vinyl bunches and jams the vinyl cutter will not stop on it's own. You just screwed up your profit on this job dumb dumb. lol

Nice! What was the total on that job?

    Vinyl Wall art

must use oil based paint, not water based which is what latex paint is.
  12. Wondering what you guys do with the discharged ink. My ink bottles getting full and this is my first time dealing with discharged ink. Thanks!
  13. john!

What would you charge for this?

Yeah i mean, i would see how the first one goes then go from there, I would just tell them since it's a complex install it's going to be around $X for the first then the others will follow based on that. I would think around $100 each would be good
  14. john!

What would you charge for this?

Yeah $900 PLUS installation. Don't do this job for $900 installed, your going to have a pretty challenging install and your going off the ground to install it..
  15. Yeah im pretty sure your not supposed to burn flammable ink... I called the local landfill and it cost only $5 to throw it away there. Thanks everyone
  16. john!

What would you charge for this?

$850 for all 3 + Install using cast is what i'm coming up with. You would have a hard time cutting these unless you can get someone with a 54" machine to cut these for you to be one piece.
  17. Thanks everyone, I tried some different curves and got one close. Thanks again
  18. Hey everyone! The time has come to move out of my apartment and into a house. Now i'm pre-approved and all for the house but before i get anything else started i would like to know if the guys/girls here who work out of their homes/garages had any trouble getting licensed. I work now out of an apartment in my town and am fully licensed to do so since nobody comes in my apartment like a store front. The house and garage is about 20 minutes away but is not in the town limits (different town). I'm planning to call the County this week and see what all i need to do to transfer things and get legit in the new place but wanted to touch base with people in my position who have done this before. I'm so excited because the garage isn't attatched to the house, it's about 50 feet away and has heat,ac and electric. Here comes a laminator and other goodies if it goes through Thanks!
  19. Hey guys, I have the edges of a pre-painted MDO sign face to seal from weather. Would using elmers wood filler for the voids then using a exterior latex house paint work well? Thanks!
  20. I love my Roland Versacamm! I would suggest everyone to invest in one at some point. I just got a banner job tonight for a 2.5x15' banner and it's actually printing right now. Banner printing and full color printing in general is so much fun. Deff apart of my "work smarter, not harder" quote i use. I know many here can do it! Bite the bullet and enjoy a print/cut machine
  21. Alright everyone, What all do i need to buy to get into blasting glasses, windows and other glassware with? What's the process i need to learn to be able to do this? What is the durability of it? (glasses, windows etc) Also, do you need to do it outdoors or can you do it indoors? (totally clueless about how messy it can be) I'm looking to expand my services and don't know of ANYONE locally who does this. Thanks!
  22. Thanks for all the info everyone! I didn't know the area would have to be real messy you do it in or i would have already bought the machines. I'll have to wait on this one i think.
  23. john!

    Just wanted to say...

Thanks, I've had the machine for about 6 months and just love it. I would deff see about getting one, they aren't really expensive i mean it's about as much as you can get a decent used car for and i'd rather have a nice machine than a nice car lol
  24. I'm thinking about purchasing a WF 1100 but i have a roland versacamm which can print on heat transfer vinyl also, Do you need to contour cut ALL designs printed from the 1100? If so i would be better off using the solvent material for my Roland. Thanks!
