    Flexi Starter 10 and MH721

Hi gang. I have been out of the loop for quite a while but decided to dust the old cutter off and get busy again. I have always found SignBlazer a little cumbersome. I was wondering if Flexi Starter would be a better cutting software to use. So here are a few questions: 1. Does Flexi Starter 10 even work on my MH721? 2. Can I cut directly from Flexi Starter 10 to my MH721? 3. If not FlexiStarter or SignBlazer, then which software to use for design/cutting? Thanks in advance! Patty

    From the Show Me State

Make sure you check out R&J Sign Co. They are located near 'The Hill'. We like to make a trip to R&J, pick up some sign stuff and then gorge ourselves at Rigazzi's! www.rjsign.com

    Window Clings

My karate dojo is hurting for business. Some of the students want to put window clings up and advertise. I cut vinyl but have never done window clings. Does anyone here do them that I could sub this to? We aren't talking a huge quantity...probably less than 20 or so. Or, does anyone have some good instructions as to HOW to do them with vinyl? Thanks in advance! Patty

    Septic Pumper Truck

Here is this weekend's job...it is a septic tank pumper truck. It as a large mass of white when they brought it in. It isn't fancy, but they shouldn't complain about being noticed! I borrowed the backhoe and skidsteer from someone here on the board. Many thanks

    Septic Pumper Truck

We charged the guy about $400 or so. We shot him a REALLY cheap price because he has a whole barn full of equipment that he wants to have lettered. If he likes it, I think we can really make a ton!!! It took about 8 hours to mask and install all that vinyl. We had nothing better to do on a Saturday, right? We used a 9 year cast which was new to us. It was Universal vinyl and it weeded like a dream! It was a little stretchy, but that was great for doing the curved sides of the tank! Believe it or not, the hardest piece to install was on the very back of the tank. The sides, while big, went on pretty easy! Thanks for looking, gang!
  7. Hello! I was wondering if anyone ever used a heat press on a ceramic tile. Is that even possible? If so, what type of vinyl did you use? Thanks in advance! Patty
  8. Very nice! I am sure your friend will love it!

    Presents for Teacher and Principal

Now, as for my college professors, yeah, I would agree to the 'Those who can't, teach' bit. But, these two are exceptional. We have had some not-so-good teachers, but these two rate among the tops. We are lucky to have a couple of teachers who are so involved in the learning process. One teacher wants us to call her at home if we have questions regarding homework. I NEVER had a teacher give out their home number! Have a happy new year! Patty
  10. I haven't been around much lately except to drop in and check every few weeks. Here is what we did for our daughter's teacher and her principal for Christmas. The tile was 83 cents at Home Depot and the stands were $3 something from Wal-mart. We sandblasted the tile and then painted it with black krylon. http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu318/alhjc6/Sign%20Stuff/IMG_1222.jpg[/img] Did an awesome glass block, too, but I can't find a way to take a decent picture yet. I'll keep trying. Patty

    Glass Block

OK...they aren't the best pictures, but here it is. We blasted the front side of it with the saying and the snow man. We painted the block with red paint but left the snowman unpainted. Then, we blasted the back side of it and then painted the sky with blue krylon. It looks a lot better in real life than in pictures. http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu318/alhjc6/Sign%20Stuff/IMG_1219.jpg[/img]

    Glass Block

Hi Jay! That is actually blasted and painted. This is the front and back of the same block. On the front, we laid the reverse of the image (we just cut it on scrap vinyl) and sandblasted the saying and the snowman. Then, he taped the snowman off and then painted the lettering with red krylon. On the back side, we laid the positive of the image and blasted everything around it so that the house and trees are clear. We (ok, he) painted the part that was blasted with blue krylon. We probably could have just painted the blue and not blasted, but he likes to sandblast, so what the heck! It looks funky in the pics, but it looks really cool in person! Happy new year!
  15. I use Anchor Blastlite. We use it to blast rocks and stepping stones (we use stencil mask or vinyl scraps for glass or plastic). The only problem we have had was finding a transfer tape that would stick to it. We finally ended up using a paper tape from SW (sorry...it was before I knew that USC sold stuff like that!). We also learned at the show in Indy from some company reps that you should wipe the mask down with alcohol before you try to tape it. That helped, but you have to be very careful to not dislodge the small pieces in your artwork! Once we put Anchor Blastlite on whatever we are trying to blast, it sticks pretty good with very little lifting. Hope this helps!
  16. Hey Zombie! I have had this problem, too. It could be the tension roller. However, what I have done that helps is before I start cutting, I advance the vinyl several feet out and check for alignment as it goes. If it skews too much, I readjust the placement of the vinyl by opening the last two tension rollers and adjusting the vinyl. It takes some time, but it has helped. Hope this helps!
  17. We normally do the first layer dry. We use the hinge method and it works pretty good. If I have a brain fade and forget to create the registration blocks, we do the succeeding layers wet. We found that the best thing to do is to cut the registration blocks out of the second and succeeding layers and then just line up the second-layer graphic so that the reg. block on the banner is showing through the hole. Make sense? It works for us, but we normally have two people working on laying the banner out.

    Baby Shower Favors

Anyone have any good suggestions for baby shower favors (that I can either use vinyl or sandblast)? My brother and his wife will be in their early 40's when their first, Nicholas, will be born this November! Better them then me! I was trying to thing about how I could utilize small 6x6 tiles but as usual, I am drawing a blank. Thanks in advance! Patty

    Design Critique

You guys have never let me down. I am having designer's block! It is for a local park. They want a welcome to/rules sign on 4x6 white aluminum with black and red vinyl. The background on the pic is gray just to show the shape they want. I am going to stick the maltese cross on either side of 'Park Rules'. Let me have it on this one!

    Design Critique

THanks all for the help! I am going to use your suggestions! Now, does anyone have any font suggestions? I look at the fonts and so many of them are the same old boring that I use all the time.

    Font Suggestion

Hey gang! I was wondering if someone could give a font suggestion. Here is the scenario: We used to have an old restaurant in our small town that was fancy. They had a big ornate bar with about an 8' x 6' mirror on the back of the bar. Well, the old fancy restaurant has now given way to a more home-cooking/bbq type restaurant. So, they want their restaurant name, Main Street Galaxy, put on the mirror (they wanted it sandblasted...yeah, right!) in etched vinyl. They don't want it classy or fancy...more of a (in their words, not mine) down-home feel. Any suggestions? What font would you all suggest? Thanks in advance! Patty

    CorelTrace

I was looking at getting Corel X4. The description mentions CorelTrace. Has anyone used this? I can use Inkscape pretty good to make vectors, but I am looking for a better tool. Is CorelTrace that better tool? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

    Marine Corps Ideas

A friend's kid is graduating from Marine boot camp in a few weeks. She is wanting to get a big beer mug blasted for him to commemorate the event. Any ideas? Anyone have any Marine Corps stuff they can share? I figured I could put his name, rank and graduation date on one side of the mug. I am drawing a blank on the other side. The Marine Corps logo is just too intricate to cut/week. Thanks in advance! PattyT
