I use the Oracal 631 with the Oracal HT55 transfer paper for all of our indoor decals... and then the Oracal 651 for my outdoor, and most often I use clear transfer tape with the 651, unless it's something I'm going to wet install, then I use a paper tape. The clear vs paper tape will be a personal preference. Some swear by paper tape, and some swear by the clear.

What's in your installation toolbox?

I'll have to check out our local Walmart. Wouldn't mind having one! -
Do I need a contractors license?
TimnAng replied to sleeveofwizzard's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
You can always check out LegalZoom.com ( I haven't tried it myself, but a good friend who recently started her own business, recommended it). She said it's right around $300 (can be broken up into 3 monthly installments) but they do all of the footwork for you, and when you are finished, you have everything you need to be considered a business. (licensing, tax ID #, etc.) They follow all of the state guidelines for whatever state you reside in.- 16 replies

Homemade ... 80% water, 20% alcohol and a drop or two of dishsoap.

Not very happy with the placement of the graduation cap on the banner... Next time I would make it slightly smaller and change the angle. It was a last minute request, and something I did for free (ouch!) for a long time friend's daughter, who's like family to us. (They did offer to pay, but I declined) We'll be removing the vinyl and re-using the banner, so we're really only out the cost of the vinyl, and the time of course. We've already had a request to make one for another grad, after they saw this one... so that's a bonus.

Welcome back... Where'd ya run off to?!

I just recently gave it a go... I use clear tape most of the time, but bought a roll of paper, just so that I could try my hand at wet app. We had a large tree service job to do, which involved cutting/layering 31 trees of various sizes for trucks & yard signs, and I didn't figure I'd ever get them all lined up the way I wanted them (without scrapping a good amount of vinyl). Worked like a charm and I'm sure saved us a lot of time and money. Just having that little bit of time, and give, to get it where you want it, is a huge help!

I like that, MadHatter... where did you get it? -
Very nice work!

Looks great! I would have used paper tape on that application, and done it wet. Especially for that amount of layering. Clear is great as far as being able to see the alignment, but the paper with wet install, allows you that little bit of give to make sure you get it spot on.

I recently discovered wet install, and have used it to do a banner, and for doing some smaller jobs that required layering. I love it! However, I tried to wet apply a decal to my truck (on the window) and followed the same procedure I used for the other wet apps... same vinyl, transfer tape, fluid- and it was a bear to get it to adhere on the glass once the vinyl had fluid on it. I felt like I squeegeed it forever... so I'm not sure how to make the install on glass go more smoothly. We made our own fluid, we used 80% water, 20% alcohol and a drop or two of dish soap (Depending on the amount of app fluid you're mixing)

Yes, Tuesday does own the time. It does not belong to Monday, nor does it belong to Wednesday. Just Tuesday.

The one letter I took off, was only on for 24-48 hours. I haven't taken the others off yet... I'll let ya know how it goes!

Nice

Because nobody in their right mind is going to pay $15 for a 2"x7" decal.
-
Depending on the size of the decal, $1 per additional color. If it were a very large, multi-color, I'd add $2 per additional color.
-
Actually went to school with a Tuesday... She owned quite a bit. The Tuesday on the sign probably doesn't own much. Only 24hrs to it's name.

Which blade angles to use with different vinyls
TimnAng replied to ghostrider27's topic in General discussion
Ahh, alrighty. I did see something about the forum discount, you have to call in to get that discount, but it's worth it! I think I'll be ordering one very soon. -
It's multi-color... Most people increase their prices to allow for the additional colors used. One color would have been $5 (I realize that the EXACT number would be 4.5) and then an up-charge for the additional.

Thanks, I'll have to check it out... we're currently just using the blade that came with our cutter (The MH series), but I've seen you all say some great things about the clean cut and would like to look into getting one. -
Good luck on your endeavor!

For a dozen, I may make it an even $80... but I don't generally give bulk pricing, until the number is quite a bit higher.

Some recent work (bunch of shirts, a sign, and a goalie mask?!)

Everything looks great. -
I used the Oracal 651... I haven't removed all of the vinyl yet, but did remove a letter to see if it was going to be a plausible idea, and it seemed to work out just fine. I imagine adding a little heat to the process would make the removal even easier.
