    beer mug

2 more questions, then I'll hush. Did you have to skew the artwork to account for the taper of the mug? Did you weed the vinyl prior to, or after, applying it? I can see where it might be more advantageous to wait until after. Your job is so sharp I had to ask. Thanks.

    Dry Erase Vinyl

Hi Terri, I saw your post yesterday, but I have no knowledge of Dry Erase. My sincere advice to you would be tell your customer the same, and then enter into 50/50 experiment with it. You should both benefit. My biggest payments have always come from my talents & work, and were multiplied by my honesty; not about what I knew, but what I said I didn't, but would tomorrow.

    beer mug

Wow, sincerely, I consider that a work of art. Excellent photography as well. I saved your photo for later inspiration, and as an example of what I'd be looking for.

    Can anyone identify this font?

That's a Currier & Ives Print, essentially a piece of artwork. If you're lucky, you'll find a typographer who was inspired enough to try to emulate this work, but keep in mind, they were only guessing as to what the other characters would have looked like. This is a bit like asking for an accurate .eps of the Mona Lisa. (meant in all humor)

can anyone ID this "groovy" font?

    Tango.
  7. Hey MrsNewBieVinyl I just wanna say you're pretty, and registration marks exist outside your current frame of reference. Just think of one frame larger, and a bit more material, no matter what the cost.

    Trying to understand these programs

Hey Monkey, With all due respect, sir, you have TREMENDOUS amount to learn, based on your problems and questions. Please don't be insulted by that. I've been doing Graphic Arts since the late 70s, on computers since 1982. The one thing I learned early, was to PAY for the best. After doing your research, of coarse. But in the end, PAY for the best. I know you just spent X-amount for this, and X-amount for that, and you think it's endless. Your question to yourself is, how bad do you want this thing, or how bad do you love it? With kind respect, Monkey, I offer you these solutions... Dig deep to understand All the various file formats that are out there now, Vector, Image, Container, (and keeping in mind that one may contain another) For now, avoid EPS (Encapsulated Postscript Files), which is actually intended as the very high end of an output file to hi-res imagesetter. EPS is misunderstood by most people, and I see too much ignorance here. Monkey, you said it yourself, and you're really kind of obligated. Take care, Mark

I saw in another post where even long-time members are having similar problems. Give it a few days.

    Elevator wrap

I do wish you well, and it sounds like a good project for you, and the customer, to win from. Both of you play cards fairly.

    Elevator wrap

You're on your own on this one, pal, and don't call me in an emergency. Kidding, but this is a special one. I believe you have to go strictly "Cost-Plus", because of all the unknowns. It's scary to a customer and protects you, but limits are also set to protect the customer. This is definitely a contract job.

How do you adjust the blade offset

You need to get in bed with your design software, your cutting software, your cutter, and any and all updates and driver changes. You MUST aqaint yourself with these. If not, all hope is lost. Just kidding, but you need to go back to the basics, seriouly. MarkK
  13. Just as reference, I'm using Corel X5, SignCutPro2, to a USCutterSC25 and it's working flawlessly. Keep in mind I've been in the sign industry for 3 decades, and working with computers longer, plus a journeyman electrician & carpenter, so I know how, where & why to cut corners. My real point is, if you're going to do it, pay the money up front to do it right. That includes training. Don't be what we call in the trades a "jackleg".
  14. I'm a bit wary of software that claims to "do everything". I've looked at the SureCutsALot3 Demo, and I'm not impressed. You can't beat tried and true layout software, coupled with tried and true cutting software, coupled with a tried and true plotter/cutter. Don't try to save pennies that will cost you dollers.
  15. Lady, you have much design skill, I'm in love with you.

    Insuring your work..?

It's too simple a question first of all, but I'll still take a shot. It depends on the application. I have a 1 year (minimum) personal guarantee I apply to anything. The manufacturers always catch the slack. Been doing this since 1978. Hope this helps, Mark

Truly. Corel keeps up in any way as a production tool. I'm old Aldus PageMaker, FreeHand, PhotoStyler.
  20. Hey all, Like the title says, I've worked for about 6 years in printing Prepress at a company where the largest press did 30" 4-color CMYK plus 3 spots (had 7 ink-wells). I've also worked in the sign business, primarilly in assembly and installation; I have to add that I'm both a Journeyman Electrician and Carpenter, which I've honed over the years, and am quite proud of, but need to downplay. Because at 53 years of age, I just want a "shop job" now. Maybe I've already answered my own question, but I'd like to hear your own responses, which may help me or newbies. Take care, Mark
  21. This girl does 3600xany to film, if needed, or 1200x1200 standard plate.
  22. Thanks slice&dice, and also you picsespokerbrat. I think my destiny is set to the same old shit, which I'm OK with.
  23. Oops, my primary question was to how this might apply to the 25" SC Model.

    Which version to get ?

Advice to you or anyone buying major software; buy the LAST stable version of that software, and always have an original boxed version shipped to you. The reason is simple; you can't control a download; you can control a disk. I'm seeing more and more people making dumber and dumber decisions on this. I know you hate it, I do too, but read the fine print. There are many ways to try out any version of any sortware. Legally

    :Newbie Needing Help:

Hi EKeack, If you think it will take you an hour, it'll take four... If you think it'll take you a day, it'll take two days... A month could easily become 3 months. My point to you as a beginner is, brace yourself for the learning curve; but never be discouraged by it. From your question, I judge you have a long way to go, but sense you need to go there. Go there.
