If you are looking at it as a hobbyist you make your own machine. If you want to make money you buy one . I bought mine.

You must decide how large your items will be. Then how fast. Is it for mass production or single items? After that you can start thinking about which machine.

    Gerber Router Review

I started opposite most of you guys. First I bougthe a Techno Isel 48" x 96" CNC then I went into vinyl. As far as programing try V Carve Pro. Its not very expensive and not hard to learn. If you are using any of the big programs enroute, artcam, for example you'll go crazy trying to make a drawing. V Carve is sold by Vectric.com. Any questions i'll try to guide you.
  6. What blades are you using for the MH 721? Its time to et some new ones. Also what angle do you like best?
  7. I have just tow quick questions. I'm running on the serial cable, windows xp, winpc sign. What baud should I be sending at. The reason is that my mother board got a surge and went bad. I had a spare so i'm still in operation after changing it, I need the address to send the bad one back to for repair, if possible. Thanks.......
  8. What is the correct placement of a roll of vinyl on a machine? Sit th erol on top of the rollers, or place a roller thru the roll and let it hang? It may be stupid and then again maybe not. What is the correct way? :-

Stupid question or not so stupid?

i'm just so use to paper towels and toilet paper , I did it wrong. I saw a picture of the Copam and said to myself , " how do you put the vinyl on that machine", that is what triggered my question.

    Sign fabrication question

Ok here is what I would like to do. The customer has given me a sign to do with lettering on top and overlaping a tri color piramid. I can make up all the components seperately . I want to place them all on a single piece of backing (release paper) and then transfer it to the vehicle, in one shot. Is there a release paper that I can purchase to do this, or will I need to place them on seperately?

    Sign fabrication question

You're right there. What makes it tough is the guy wants to apply them himself. I figure if I let him and he messes it up, he will let me do it and i'll make 3 times as much on the job. His workers call him Einstine...............

    CNC machine .......

don't bother with The Sears machine. It only cuts what sears has files for. You can not do custom signs with it. When I was at the Sign world Show in Atlantic City the Techno and others were there. A machine like mine, complete with all the bells and whistles was $32,000. and Most of the others started at $30,000. I paid $13,000. for mine . This is the one I have http://www.techno-isel.com/CNC_Routers/LC_Series_CNC_Routers.htm Once again, if you can get the work, and you charge $100.00 / sq.ft. then when you finish your 10th. sheet of signfoam, its paid for.

    CNC machine .......

Most of the signage around here seems to be going Dimensional. My problem is i'm a startup business, even thought I have been using the CNC for a long time. I need to get to the customers. In some of the other forums I have been on, guys are getting from $50 to 150. a sq ft. Most everything is foam board too. It cuts like butter.

    CNC machine .......

This one is right up my alley. I have a Techno Isel, LC4896. I also have operational and maintenance expirence on the big ones, like Komo and others. The Techno has Servo motors, not steppers. They are smoother and more precise than steppers. It has Ball screws. A very accurate and powerfull. It has steel rails and lenier bearings. What that means is power to cut materials with extreamly high accuracy and repeatability. We are all aware of bugs and gliches when it comes to machienery. Well in the 4+ years of having my machine I have not had to ask tech support WHY OR WHAT is going on at all!! The computer interface is easy to run. I would say as easy as a vinyl cutter. If you want to talk about it send me an e mail and we can do that. You can go to my site and see what I do with it. Most of my site is CNC work.

    What should I do???

I had a similar issue with my cutter when I got it. BUT, since I know that the mother ----board could fry, I placed an order for two boards instead of sending it back and waiting. I got them in a couple of days. I have since sent back the bad one and got credit and haven't had any issues since. The price of a spare board is not much and I don't worry about down time. Being from an industrial situation prior to this, I know the value of spares. If I had a a backlog of work, knowing what the markup on this product is, i'd have a spare machine. My first sign job paid for the machine.........
