  1. One thing I noticed. The way it is vectorized, that inner part of the circle is gonna cut right through the poor dog's nose and I don't see any way around it.I've had that problem before, and yet to have a problem...unless somewhere,in some far off place, the vinyl shrinks a bit.

  2. I use 45 degrees on everything. No problems. You can get the blades at www.uscutterdirect.com.

I get mine elsewhere on ebay for a bit less ($3 each in lots of 10 if I catch the auction just right). And yes,you need thr roland blades.be careful and read the description when buying,I think Roland makes another blade for the CAMM cutter or something that is not the same.

I get 2 months average out of my $3 blades, and I do a LOT of cutting (this is my business).I see roland blades as high as $18 EACH which is a waste of money if you ask me.

The place I get mine from, will mix sizes if you buy the lot of 10,so you can get one or two of the other sizes.

  3. I don't know about letters sticking to the vinyl, the important thing to me would be the paint sticking to the plywood.Otherwise, the vinyl would pull the paint off. When I was in the furniture refinishing biz, I always used acrylic enamel on top of a primer coat.Furniture grade plywood is best.More expensive but better surface. I never sealed over the enamel. I have seen the sealer act as paint remover and ruin the finish.

Thats just my furniture refinishing point of view. I would think that the vinyl would stick just as well to an y nice clean, smooth surface.

  4. Bear

When I imported it into my Flexi,it said"open paths detected..would you like them closed?" I have no idea what that means.

Anyhow, when I went to cut,it was showing 2 layers. You had to select the white layer to cut one,the black for the other. I went back to flexi, selected the graphic, color BLACK only, and there was just one layer to cut.

Don't know if that helps any. You have a different version of Flexi than i do.

  5. 500 fonts was pretty much the limit in 95,98,and ME but 2k and XP has no limit. But here's the catch...you can load as many fonts into the font folder as you wish, but after a certain point, some will become unusable. And it has nothing to do with the size of the font, but more the size of the font NAME. It has something to do with the font entry in the registry. The time it takes Windows to read the entry, etc. I've had it explained to me but details are not my forte.

Fivestar...you have more nerve than i do,running Vista. I will go Linux before I ever install Vista. And it's not because of all the driver/compatabilty/hardware issues that everyone squaks about...it's the built-in anti-piracy that gives Microsoft the ability to A:) virtually stop you from copying ANY coprwrited material(including burning DVD's) B:) disable hardware that is capable of doing this(if your video card, for instance, has a video-in jack). I could go on and on.

Not that I (or anyone here) would try and copy or download anything illegal, but I would like to make that decision myself, not Microsoft and the MPPA and recording industry.

This is why DELL has started (this week) to offer XP on new systems instead of Vista. So many complaints.

  6. I passed 2000 a long time ago, and my flexi takes about 40 seconds to load. I have an AMD too,on the main PC, Pentium on others...but you have me beat on RAM and I think that's the key here. I'll get around to bumping mine up one of these days.. unless I just get a new computer altogether. This one will be a year old in June. Or I might just build one...who knows.

But for the average computer user,my advice still stands. Not everyone has 2 gigs of Ram.Not everone has a fast CPU. And every program you have open eats at the memory.

By the way tater, I've had to replace a lot of AMD's when I was in the computer repair biz, because of heat issues. They run hot. And a lot of manufacturers scimp on the fans and don't allow for enough air flow. Personally,I keep the sides off of mine, and have never had a heat issue.yet. And before you say it, I have a vacuum cleaner the size of a toothpaste tube and I keep everything inside nice and clean.

  7. A tip for you...don't rush to install ever single font. If your fonts didn't come with one, geta  font viewer, and install as you need. 2 reasons for this....the more fonts you have, the longer Inkscapen takes to load. Also, when I was in the computer biz, I headr that there is a limit to how many fonts Windows can handle, but was never able to get a straight answer from Microsoft. I will repeat my earlier offer here:

I have a dvd with 50,000 fonts on it. I'm not interested in selling it, but anyone who wants a copy, can email me,I will make  a copy for anyone who sends me a blank DVD and a self addressed, postage paid mailer. Also,if you need a particular font, just ask me. If I have it,I will be happy to email it to you. I have a nice collection of dingbat fonts, which save a LOT of time because you don't have to vectorize the images.

  8. I looked into that.Disabled the pop-up blocker,still nothing.BUT when I opened in IE,it was there.Which means it requires ActiveX browser. I use Opera,which isn't activeX based,which means more secure.

At least tthat's all I can figure out.

  9. I didn't and still don't see any link to click on,such as 'products' etc...last night I tried the search box.no matter what I typed in,nothing came up. Tonight, the search box worked. I guess I am just used to websites that use menus. Once you leave the home page,no place to click to get you back there. But what I saw, didn't look that cheap. $100 vinyl pack...25 yards of vinyl(total), a roll of tape,a few squeegies, and a bottle of appl fluid. I just bought a 30"x50 yard roll of black vinyl for $41. and am used to paying $20-25 for 50yards of 12 or 15 inch.

  10. I just checked that out...can't see any products, vinyl or otherwise, without signing up and giving them your credit card///I don't do business like that. I give them my card when i buy,not just to look.

  11. I am happy with it...just used to it being the other way round. It took me awhile to get used to my second wife after the first,my third after the second,etc.... but eventually,I did.

And I never said I knew everything, just learning bit by bit. But already,I know more after 2 weeks about signcut than I did about Flexi after 2 months.

One thing....the vinyl tyracks a LOT better with the Refine than with my other cutter which cost much more.

  12. Yeah, but for me that's the fun part..I've been a mystery buff since I discovered Sherlock Holmes at 10...I love solving puzzels and working things out.

My first plotter came with Flexi and I hit it stone cold,no support at all..no forums then...and it was just as hard for me.

  13. I've never been able to cut a stripe that long, the vinyl has to be really straight and track right. I just cut 2 shorter stripes  and overlap. Never had a complaint but that's just on banners, I do know that if you slow it down as slow as you can, sometimes you get better results.

Also,in Flexi, try the panel feature, cut in shorter lengths. I'm not in the shop right now or I would give it a try.
