I can't get my cutter to work with Lion. I know that SignCut is supposed to be compatible with Lion, but they Keyspan is not reading now. Any advice? Thanks, Scott Laserpoint 24 with OS X Lion and a Keyspan Serial to USB connector.

Trying to collect payment
spacegraphics replied to MaderDesign's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
I have been fighting for payment on a design job since February. It has been e-mails back and forth and him saying he will pay in a few weeks, blah blah. I 99% of the time get a deposit on design work, but let him slide since I have done work for him in the past. I have his "assurance" again this week that he will mail payment. Not sure if it is worth going to court over. I didn't have him sign a contract this time, either. I just got burned on a set of vehicle magnets and car window decals, too. She was in a hurry to get them, so I got them together really quick and now she says she can't afford to pay for them. So, I am stuck with them I guess. Friend of a friend situation here, so I again let it slide on up front payment. Back to design work, though. I have a contract regarding ownership of artwork and payment requirements BEFORE I let anyone take anything. It is more work to chase them down and make them sign a contract, but at least you will have it on paper for legal issues if it comes to it? These are the issues that keep me working at a 9-5 job. Everyone is looking to screw someone over. Even more so with the economy being slow. I guess there is a balance between being a nice business person, but a stern one. Keep all bases covered and get some $ up front. -

but then don't you have to power it off and back on to use it again? -
"Waiting" after cut

I have to hit the "reset cutter" button in the software to clear it out. -
My problems seem to be hit or miss...sometimes it works fine; other times it just shuts down when I start it. So far I have learned that it seems to crash less when I restart my computer and just go right to the cutting software. I appreciate all of your assistance with this! Thanks!

Would it help to e-mail you guys at SignCut the error codes I am getting when it crashes?

Made a 10' banner for my friend that I was in a car accident with in June. She just got out of a rehab facility last week.

thanks! Yes, she has had a rough recovery and still cannot walk very well. Both of her ankles were shattered and her right arm was broken in three places. I fractured the outer layer of my sternum, bruised a lung, and had some glass embedded in my left hand, but I had 2 weeks recovery, she is going on 5 months! Poor girl! -
Hello all, I have had the crashing issues with SignCut and Snow Leopard, too. Sometimes it works fine, other times it just keeps crashing over and over. The latest build seems to be a little better with the crashing. The only thing that I have found to minimize the crashing is to just restart my computer, not open any other programs except Illustrator and SignCut. I am considering installing XP and running a PC version of the software with boot camp. Wonder if that would work? I wouldn't blame SignCut folks for the problems. Snow Leopard was a bump, just like there was from Tiger to Leopard. There will be issues. Think of all the poor PC folks that didn't go from XP to Vista and now have to try to get Windows 7 into their machines. From what I have used of the new SignCut I like so far! I think they have been pretty fair with allowing us X2 users to upgrade without charging us!

Tell me if I am way off on pricing please?!?
spacegraphics replied to spacegraphics's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
They just want them RTA to place on a floor for a party. Figured I could get away with the 651 since it will go over the 631. Don't want to destroy a floor! That would be bad! -

Need to to two different signs (floor application temporary for a party) for potential b2b that could turn into a lot of work for me. I used signcalculator.com to come up with the prices, then rounded down to the lower dollar amount, then subtracted 20% for trade discount (I do this with other vendors and they for me likewise 15%-20% depending on company). If I do it right, I can get all their outsourcing for vinyl cutting. 1) 36" x 72" Oracal 631 White signcalculator.com cost suggests $191.70, I said i would do for $152.00. 2) 33" x 96" Oracal 731 Gold signcalculator.com cost suggests $234.30, I said I would do for $187.00. Found the attached image a "B2B Vinyl Sign Price Guide", too that suggests signcalculator.com's pricing isn't too far from the mark (before I apply discount). Maybe 20% too high to discount, but I am mostly out of work and figure I can afford to cheap myself out a bit. Still clearing enough from the cost of the materials. Ideas? Suggestions? Am I still way too high? I have to tile the artwork, they are cool with that. They are installing it themselves. I have to submit before Tuesday AM, so sending quote and crossing fingers. Feel free to tell me I messed up badly or did alright! Much appreciated and many thanks in advance. -

Thanks! I usually find that I go way over or way under. Lost my butt on some vehicle magnets by way under-pricing. Things are very tough in MI right now, so I am trying to stay competitive.
