Ken, Are these difficult to install? How much disassembly do you have to do? JimmieD

Cutter Stops Cutting
JimmieD replied to envirocad's topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Support Requests
Does the Pcut ctn630 have a serial connection? If so, you simply plug this adapter into your computer's usb port and then use a serial cable (my LaserPoint came with one) to go between the adapter and the cutter. JimmieD -
Cutter Stops Cutting
JimmieD replied to envirocad's topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Support Requests
I had the same issues when using the USB connection on the Laserpoint. I wasted a lot of vinyl on half-cut designs before trying the serial connection. This was the solution that allowed me to use my USB only laptop. I've had no further issues since installing this: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-to-RS232-Serial-DB9-Cable-Adapter-PC-PDA-GPS-for-XP_W0QQitemZ320217447766QQihZ011QQcategoryZ146519QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Just get one of these and use the serial cable that came with your cutter. Kimon....I figured it out! After I got your request to send a sample file, I realized the one thing all my trials of Signcut had in common was that I was using .wmf files. I just now took the file I sent you, converted it to an .eps file and it cut out beautifully. So...there must be some issue between the .wmf file format and your program with this cutter. Anyway...your help pointed me in the direction of the solution and all is well. :thanks: JimmieD

Kimon, I assume you mean support@sc-x2.com? Anyway, I sent a wmf file that I tried using both programs. I appreciate your help. I really want to use Signcut if possible. JimmieD

Hans, I tried out changing the curve resolution but it didn't seem to make any difference. It really is like night and day between how Signcut cuts out and how Signblazer cuts out. Also, Signblazer, because there is not as much movement in the head, cuts out at 2x the speed. I just cut out a design using both programs. With Signcut it took over 3 minutes. With SignBlazer it took just over a minute. Scratching my head here. Jim

I bought a cheapo USB to Serial converter on Ebay and now am running my laserpoint from my laptop with no more of the problems of lost connections I experienced with the USB to USB connection. Just thought I'd share for those experiencing lost connections. JimmieD

Hans, I can't wait to try out your fix. Thank you very much. BannerJohn, I use Corel for my designing. I know Signblazer has all the design tools, but I don't want to spend the time to learn them since Corel is like second nature for me. The weeding line tools in Signcut gives me much more control. Also when using the weeding lines option with Signblazer I have found the results to be unpredictable. With Signcut I can put them where I want and I see exactly where they are going to be before I cut. Thanks guys, JimmieD

I just wanted to add my voice. I was wasting a lot of vinyl using the USB connection. I switched to the serial port connection and it's worked flawlessly since. I've ordered a USB-Serial converter and hope it will allow me to use the Laserpoint with my laptop. Has anyone here actually used a USB-Serial converter and did it work for you? Thanks, JimmieD

I downloaded the trial version of Signcut X2. I really like the software...especially the weedlines tool. Anyway, when I cut out a design using Signcut, my Laserpoint seems to have a lot more chatter when it is cutting compared to the same design cut in Signblazer. The head seems to vibrate a lot and it is generally much louder when cutting. I'm sure this has to do with some setting that is different between the two software packages. The quality of the cuts seems the same. Any thoughts? I'm really close to pulling the trigger on a Signcut subscription, but I'm concerned that I may be doing damage to my cutter with the extra vibration. Thanks, JimmieD

How to check baud rate on Laserpoint?
JimmieD posted a topic in LaserPoint Cutting Plotter Discussion
I'm experiencing some connection problems between the laserpoint and my laptop. I've read that the baud rate might be the culprit. But the instructions that came with the laser point indicate a menu item on the cutter for setting the baud rate. But I can't find that menu item. I can find how to set the baud rate in Windows...no problem. Does anyone know the default baud rate on this cutter? Thanks, JimmieD -
Does anyone know what the trial mode limitations are for SignBlazer? Here's the reason behind my query. I just purchased the Laserpoint 24 cutter from USCutter. (Love it by the way!) So I've installed SignBlazer Elements on my laptop and use it to control my cutter. I do my design work on my desktop and I'm using the trial mode of SB on it so that I can print labels and t-shirt transfers with registration marks in order to use the contour cutting function of the Laserpoint. I'm just wondering if I'm going to lose that functionality after 30 days or if I can continue in the trial mode indefinitely and use it strictly for printing? Anyone? Thanks, JimmieD

Thanks Jerry...that is very helpful. The truth is, I read a thread on this forum yesterday regarding a guy getting rounded corners. It didn't seem that any was saying that that was not their experience, and so I just wanted to be sure that it truly was a squeaky wheel phenomenon and not the experience of the average user. I ordered my cutter today and am looking forward to making great use of it as well as the knowledge of folks like yourself. Also, thanks for the others who replied. Thanks again, JimmieD

Man...you ask a simple question... Seriously...noone's answered the second question I asked in the original post. Are there any testimonies of folks getting clean sharp corners cut with the LaserPoint series?
