Vectorizing and node help

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm trying to cut a state outline. After I get it vectorized and send it to cutter the outline is usually broken. I use inkscape to vectorize then send it to sighblazer. Can I use the nodes to complete the lines in sighblazer, or do I need to work on it more in inkscape?

Thanks Lenny

Lenny,

Have you tried to vectorize the image directly inside signblazer?  If you convert the image to a b/w, 2-color and then vectorize it, usually signblazer does a bang-up job of converting without any broken lines or vectors.... Just my three-cents worth!

I'm not very good at this yet. Do I copy and paste the image in sign blazer the same way I did in inkscape? How do I convert the image? I assume b/w is black and white. Can you do that to any color image?

Is the image you are trying to vectorize a high enough quality image? it is best to use the highest quality image you can find.

Can you post or link the image you are trying to vectorize? and also the results you are getting after it is vectorized.

You can also make your own outline, google up the image and download it and vectorize in Inkscape.

Then copy and paste into SignBlazer and make your outline.

The nodes must be connected. If not, SignBlazer typically freaks out. You can double left click on the design to bring up the node editing mode. You might have some nodes crossing over one another. You can move nodes around as you wish, left click a node and hit delete to get rid of it, or right click to bring up more node options.

I tried this 3 times yesterday. I cant get a nice thin line like the one in the video. Maybe my images are not good enough. I tried to put one on here last night, but it said I couldnt post that type of image. I tried to copy and paste into signblazer also and couldnt get that work either.

LDR,

What type of image do you have?  JPG, SVG, BMP, EMF, etc?  It helps to know these things, not only for posting here, but for helping you with the steps to get the image into SB.

Also, which state are you trying to outline?  I have several states already in vector format to help you out if your time is running short for this project.

mr300s,

Thanks for the link.  That will be a lot faster for them to download than for me to try to email it to them!!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!!

Big Don, I would right click and copy clipart of the state that I wanted, then paste it in inkscape and vectorize in. I would export to SB as a EPS file. It would open fine and look ok, but wouldnt cut so good. I have also figured out today I was trying to outline to small of a image. I made the image 15"X15" outlined it then shrunk it back the size I wanted and it turned out perfect.  Thanks again Lenny
